Not making light of a very serious topic, but tonight we used our voice activated Apple TV to look for the funny and ever humorous movie “A million ways to die in the West” with Seth McFarlane. This is what popped up on our screen. Apple really does think about everything when they design their products.

What a year! Some laughter and some tears. I have no idea what 2018 will bring, but I know who is the author of 2018 and that is all that matters. Of course, everyone in my best nine is family except for Levi @bowlife_levi but he is a bow hunter so it is pretty much the same thing. God bless you all!

What it Means to be Free

Today I was reading some Facebook comments between some people that were discussing a situation that happened near my home town. They were commenting back and forth about freedom.

One person said that even though we live in America, we are not free. This is an interesting take since the Declaration of Independence is a paper document that does give us our freedom, but only from Britain. Thomas Jefferson wrote “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, That they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” This is so true. We are created equally. We are all created in the likeness of God (Genesis 5:1)

While these people bickered back and forth about freedom, it got me thinking. We are free from tyranny from another country, but is that really freedom? Can I do whatever I want, whenever I want? No, of course not. I have to go to work to earn a living to provide for my family. I cannot skip out whenever I want to go bow hunting, which is what I would do if I truly had the “freedom” that these two were discussing.

I do have another freedom. A much more important freedom. I am free from the binding chains of death through sin. Through Christ’s death I am free from the most damming thing since the fall of man. While He is with me, I will always have the best kind of freedom. “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” II Corinthians‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬. While this verse uses the term “liberty”. Strong Concordance uses the term “Eleuthera” (Greek: ἐλευθερία) which by definition means “Freedom from slavery, independence, absence of external restrain, a negation of control or domination.

Matthew 1:1-25

As we read the list of Jesus’ ancestors it is encouraging to see that they include Tamar (the adulteress), Rahab (the prostitute), Ruth (the non-Jewish Moabite), Solomon (who was conceived after King David’s adulterous affair with Bathsheba), as well as many others. Thankfully, God uses sinful human beings and, therefore, can use us. Whatever your past, however broken your life may seem right now, God can use you to do something great with your life.

In Matthew, Jesus is the end of the line as far as the Old Testament story goes – the climax has been reached. In Jesus, all the promises of God are fulfilled. Jesus is not only the completion of the Old Testament story at a historical level, he is also the fulfilment of the Old Testament prophecies and all of God’s promises.

Seeing Starwars with this awesome 12 year old. Can’t believe he is 12 already.
