greetings! i want to know what are the best moisturizers for natural hair? (i have 4b texture hair). i asked b/c in many products there are a lot of chemicals in them such as the sulfates, chlorides, and things of that nature. what are the best brands for moisturizers, and even shampoos and conditioners? would it just be best to stick with the 100% coconut oils, olive oils, and such? thank you
Hey hey!
For type 4 hair, I’d suggest a moisturizing regimen that starts off with 1) water, follows up with 2) an oil, and then finishes with 3) and leave in or creme based moisturizing styling product or a butter.
Personally, I shampoo every 4-6 weeks with a product that strips my hair of natural oil and build up. I use Tresemme Naturals moisturizing shampoo with lower sulfates. The brand itself isn’t too important; look for a shampoo that makes your hair feel clean but not terribly stripped and like hay. But between my shampoos on a weekly basis, I’m co-washing my hair. The conditioner I currently use is Herbal Essences Hello Hydration. A former fave of mine was Tresemme Naturals with avocado and aloe vera. Both of these products provide great slip for detangling. I think co-washing is a great way to keep moisture in type 4 hair.
In terms of finding an oil that works best for you, I think that will require both research and then trail and error. I know some type 4 women who love coconut oil and others who loathe it, so there’s no one size fits all regimen or product list, even for those of us with similar hair types.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

I gasped when I saw this. Look at that crown. So gorgeous.
This past, the Negro’s past, of rope, fire, torture, castration, infanticide, rape; death and humiliation; fear by day and night, fear as deep as the marrow of the bone; doubt that he was worthy of life, since everyone around him denied it; sorrow for his women, for his kinfolk, for his children, who needed his protection, and whom he could not protect; rage, hatred, and murder, hatred for white men so deep that it often turned against him and his own, and made all love, all trust, all joy impossible—-this past, this endless struggle to achieve and reveal and confirm a human identity, human authority, yet contains, for all its horror, something very beautiful…
