Day #147 of lockout: VOTE FOR TROY CAMP!!!

             I am involved in a student run organization at USC called Troy Camp which happens to be USC's largest and most diverse philanthropic organization that has helped inner city kids through mentoring since 1948. Since Troy Camp is student run, we have to raise our own funds for these kids in order to have programming and tutoring weekly as well as a week long camp at the end of May which gives the kids every bit of camp they could ever ask for (horse back riding, swimming, arts and crafts, sports, etc.) However, just like any other business in this economy, Troy Camp needs help raising more money for these kids because less money means that less kids go to camp.

So how can you help? Troy Camp has entered into a contest through Pepsi which grants whichever organization gets the most votes (through text and email) $25,000!!! You have no idea how far $25,000 can go for Troy Camp and these kids so please take the time that you would normally be watching some basketball and vote!!! Tell your friends to vote! Tell your friends moms and dads and cousins and cousin's cousins and sister's hairdresser! TELL EVERYONEEE!

Day #146 of lockout: Touchdown Celebrations and Commentary

If you know of Deion Sanders, you would know that his personality is limitless and his enthusiasm for football is unmatched. While recapping the Packers vs. Buccaneers game, particularly one monstrous run by Tampa Bay Buccaneer RB Legarrette Blount, Deion Sanders shows that same enthusiasm and adds a little creativity and a hilarious pun to describe this run.

AT&T Flash Mob Touchdown Celebration

If you haven't seen the AT&T Flash Mob commercial, it involves a man receiving a message that the flash mob dance had been moved until later in the day, but since he does not have AT&T, he commences the flash mob by himself. Tony Scheffler of the Detroit Lions re-enacts this dance perfectly and shows us why he's making a case to be the next NFL player on Dancing With The Stars.

"Chalk one up for Maurice Jones-Drew"

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past year and a half, you should know how much the city of Cleveland hates Lebron James. Not only did he leave them but did so in a demeaning, overly dramatic fashion. Aside from that fact though, before every game, he puts powder in his hands and tosses it up into the air, a pre-game ritual. Since the Jacksonville Jaguars were playing in Cleveland, Jones-Drew decided to pull out Lebron's old move and give the Cleveland Brown fans something to remember.

Day #142 of lockout: SIGN THIS PETITION

If you haven't heard already, there is a legitimate law that might be passed by Congress that would block websites for infringing links posted by any users. What does this mean for you? It means that you would not be able to read this because Tumblr would be blocked. Want to tweet what you read here? Twitter would be blocked too. It's okay though, you can always post it on Facebook for your friends to see and you can get 4 "likes" and be super cool... think again. Even if you sing a pop song on Facebook, Youtube, or any other website that is copyrighted, you would be infringing against this law. So if you care about the internet and having the freedom to see what you want, tweet what you want, post what you want, and ultimately do what you want, then go to this website, sign the petition, and while you still can, tweet it, blog it, vlog it, "like it" and anything else you can think of.

Day #141 of lockout: Watch TV

Think you'll miss your couch since NBA games won't be on? Think again. Watch some of these TV shows to pass the time and I guarantee you'll enjoy them

1) Breaking Bad

If you like Dexter, chemistry, or action, you'll love this show. Bryan Cranston is remarkable as a chemistry teacher who turns to selling crystal meth in order to pay for his chemotherapy treatments and quickly realizes that although making crystal meth is easy for him, selling it and trusting others to come through for him is a lot tougher than it seems.

2) Friday Night Lights

There's a reason this show was consistently nominated for awards as well as Kyle Chandler winning an emmy for his performance as Coach Taylor. This show is extremely character driven and involves enough twists and turns to keep you interested even when there's no football to be played at every second. Watch this show if you like football, strong character development, or are just curious as to what happens in a small Texas town where football isn't just a game but a way of life.

3) Arrested Development

Yes, I know this show came out in 2003 and yes I am extremely late in watching this show, but this show is hands down the FUNNIEST show I have ever watched. The writing is perfect, the plot lines intertwine remarkably (both in the episodes and throughout the seasons), the guest appearances are unheard of, and the laughs do not stop. Literally one of the best shows I have ever watched.

4) The Walking Dead

Who doesn't love zombies? Although this show's first season only has 6 episodes and it is currently only on season 2, the effects and makeup for this show are movie-quality, which is what makes it so great. It's like watching the movie Zombieland with less humor but more character development and a stronger plot.

5) Suits

I just recently started watching this show and if you like shows involving whit, drama, or the law, then watch it. As the tagline for this show goes, "Two lawyers, one degree" which makes for an interesting dynamic between those that are actually lawyers and have taken the LSATs and gone to law school (Harvard for their law firm) and the one individual who has a photographic memory but is not an actual lawyer.

Day #140 of lockout: Play NBA 2k12

Play some video games! You're still going to be staring at a screen watching basketball being played, except this time you can actually interact with what's going on. Don't like how the first quarter went for you? Restart the game! Want to make yourself a player on the Lakers rated higher than Kobe? Go for it! The more you play this game and realize how cool the "oldtimers" are to play with, you'll be forgetting the lockout all together.

I have decided to create a blog dedicated to what I will be doing instead of watching the NBA this year. It's a shame that the owners and players could not come to an agreement, but you will agree that what I find to do with my free time will be both entertaining and outrageous!
