âFive! Four!â The sound of multiple voices counting down to midnight filled the living room slash balcony of the dorm where members of WayV, staff and friends had gathered. Excitement and cheerfulness was audible in those voices and sensible in the mood everyone carried.
âThree! Two One! HAPPY NEW YEAR!â
Kun was quick to look at the younger girl at the railing of the balcony. Her eyes were big and innocent â something Kun wasnât all too familiar with. Minnie usually had a rather stoic look to her. Even when she was around friends and family, she would never show her full emotions. Seeing her eyes sparkle as she watched the fireworks go off in the distance made Kunâs heart full.
As to not startle her, Kun quietly cleared his throat before softly placing a hand on Minnieâs shoulder. She turned towards him almost instantly, but her eyes lingered on the pretty colours in the sky. âHappy New Year, Minnie,â Kun told her softly.
A soft smile appeared on her face as she echoed the same words at him in response. âIsnât it beautiful?â She pointed at the sky in a childlike manner. Her finger followed the fireworks that caught her attention and Kun could swear he heard her giggle.
In his trance, being completely fascinated by this different side of Minnie he had never seen, Kun forwent an answer. Completely unintentionally at that, but it remained silent on his part.
âItâs been a while since I saw fireworks like this.â She looked at Kun again who eyed her questioningly. âWith Covid and being busy or tired on holidays like this, you know?â Kun nodded in response. âMy dad and I always made New Year's wishes as we watched the fireworks on New Year where I grew up.â
Kun chuckled softly when he noticed the red tint high on the girlâs cheeks. She was a bit embarrassed to share such cheesy stories of her childhood, but she knew Kun always appreciated things like that. Especially when they came from her.
âDid they ever come true?â
Minnie laughed, thinking back of her wishes. âYes. Yes, they most definitely did.â The manâs eyes widened in curiosity at her rather surprising answer. âWasnât really hard if I always wished for silly little things out loud so that my dad could make sure my wishes came true.â
Both the members laughed with each other for a moment before Kun asked her some examples of her wishes.
âUsually they were dance lessons. Or tickets to concerts. Sometimes just toys,â she told him. âThe only time my wish didnât come true was when I wished for a puppy⊠I got a dog plushie instead.â
Kun laughed loudly at the story, imagining a young Minnie asking for a puppy. âIf that was the only unattainable wish you had, your father mustâve been really happy to have you as a child. Not wishing for insane things.â Minnie nodded with playfulness. She wasnât exactly saying she was the perfect child, but admitting that her childhood wishes were overall very reasonable. âAny wishes this year?â
Minnie scoffed inwardly, casting her eyes on the floor for a second before looking back up at her leader. âI thought about one, but this might be the first unattainable wish Iâll make,â she told him with a bit of sadness lacing her words. âMinus the puppy, of course.â
She tried to lighten the mood, but Kun wouldnât let the conversation end there. âTell me, maybe I can make your wish come through?â
Minnie nodded mindlessly, carefully considering Kunâs request. She turned back towards the sky, but during their conversation, the fireworks had become more sparse. Kun took a step forward and took his place next to the girl. His arm rested against hers sharing some of his quickly decreasing warmth.
The newly shared heat between the two caused Minnie to relax. She didnât realise it, but she needed the comfort and she gladly would lean into it.

She rested her head against Kunâs shoulder. There was barely enough height difference for it to be comfortable though and the older of the two noticed this. He straightened his posture and placed his arm around her to accommodate her. Minnie smiled against his sweater, inhaling the scent that was so Kun. It was so warm and cosy and it made her lose all control over her will to keep things to herself. âI wish that this year WayV doesnât have to struggle as much as in the last few years. I wish we can all be happy and perform in front of people again without worries. I hope we will have many albums and more projects to show our fans.
âAnd I wish we can all do it together.â
Minnie smiled and closed her eyes, leaning further into Kunâs warmth. She ignored how his body froze for a few noticeable seconds before he tightened the arm that was loosely slung around her waist. He was pulling her closer and then rested his head on hers.
âIâll do everything in my power to make your wish come true.â
The girl smiled, but shook her head against the warm sweater of her friend.
âLeader-nim,â she said in a stern voice, but giggled right after. Kun turned his face so he was just able to see the smile on her lips and he hummed softly against the crown of her head.

With all the videos of her dancing pre-debut, fans had wished for her to debut as a soloist or in a new girl group

Kun and Ten shared their disappointment with the fans that Minnie had felt the need to apologise and later with the permission of Minnie, they shared her slow progress was caused by her dyslexia

You canât tell by how close and comfortable these two are now, but it took a while for Mark to get close to Eunjae
When Eunjae was still a trainee she had many high highsâ but also many low lows â and everything in between
She was very hard for Mark to understand and it definitely took him a second to even approach her
One day Eunjae noticed Mark having a hard time explaining something in Korean to another Korean trainee, so she walked up to them and told Mark to tell her whatever he needed to say in English so she could relay the message in Korean
Ever since Mark grew somewhat curious of Eunjae
She was weird to say the least, but it wasnât a bad kind of weird at all
So Mark decided it wasnât too bad of an idea to get to know Eunjae a bit more and he was happy he did because when SM told them she was debuting in NCT they were already close pals
Eunjae sometimes takes his role as the âgroupâs leaderâ too seriously and she looks at him as some kind of mentor

Renjun didnât really like Eunjae that much when he joined SM
She was very outspoken and sometimes it came across as rude to Renjun
He felt like she was using her âseniorityâ to command other trainees around, but she was just trying to help out
When Eunjae realised Renjun didnât seem to like her, she felt a bit hurt, annoyed and even confused, because âWhat did I ever do to him?â
Renjun is also known for not having the most patience some times, so when Eunjae started training with them and was struggling with basic dance moves his patience would run out a bit too quickly and Eunjae would catch him rolling his eyes multiple times at things she did wrong
It actually took the other members telling him he should be more patient for him to actually give Eunjae a chance
Heâd start to see how much she actually practised and realised her lack of progress and skill wasnât because she was lazy or slacking off
After that he felt really bad for judging her so quickly and even though he was just stressed sometimes because of his trainee life, he knew he couldnât blame his previous behaviour on that
Even though the side glances and eye rolls stopped after that, it took until just a few months before Dreamâs debut that Renjun and Eunjae started being actual friends
Now theyâre the perfectly balanced duo
Renjunâs directness contrasts Eunjaeâs naivety very well

Youâll see Jeno motioning to her to calm down (politely) when she (often with the rest of the maknae line) is getting too rowdy, or tell her to pay attention when she doesnât notice someone else is talking
If necessary Jeno will carefully pull or push her around when they are in busy places to make sure she doesnât get lost in the crowd
Overall Jeno and Eunjae are pretty chill
They enjoy having calm conversations and love âcomplainingâ about how the other members never help in the dorm
Old grandparents vibes coming from these two and it annoys the other members to the core, but that just more fuel for those two to continue
When the members say that the way Jeno acts sometimes makes him look like heâs the maknae, itâs a 100 percent true
He usually denies it though, but when it comes to Eunjae he secretly loves being babied by herđ

Theyâd sneak out during their trainee and early idol days to get dinner or just snacks

Information leaked that SM was planning on letting Eunjae graduate from NCT Dream despite her age with Mark in 2018
According to the leaks it was said that Eunjae would graduate because âShe graduated NCT Dreamâs conceptâ (SM alleged official Statement) and it would be promised that she would be put into a new unit (in the future) that would fit her image better
SM has not elaborated on the leaks, but fans speculate they were planning to put Eunjae in WayV who debuted 2019

âI train here, am I not allowed to be here?â she answered with a teasing tone, but before the other person could answer Wendy pulled Subin towards her and hid behind her taller frame. She held onto Subinâs shoulders to make sure she didnât run away. âThis is Subin! Sheâs also from Chicago!â

âYouâre still from Chicago! It doesnât matter how long you lived there! Iâm trying to find a common ground here so you can become friends!â Wendy commented with fiery excitement about two of her friends meeting. âOH! Youâre both the same age!â
Johnny and Subin quickly turned to each other and confirmed their birth year, falling into more laughter afterwards. âThatâs such a weird but cool coincidence,â Johnny said and Subin nodded her head. âYou are a trainee here as well?â

âFree?!â Johnny yelled after her, but couldnât help but smile. Even if it wasnât a joke, he didnât mind.
âYes! Now Iâll see you next time!â
Without being able to say âbyeâ, Johnny watched Subin disappear behind the door towards the stairs. To his side he could hear a little shuffling, causing him to snap his head towards the sound. Behind the door, a pair of big eyes peered out the room. âWho was that?â A hissed whisper sounded from behind the door.
Johnny laughed before going inside to find a few other male trainees. âSubin. The new trainee,â he told them and Taeyongâs eyes widened.
âSubin? Is she like⊠scary like people say she is?â Yutaâs question made Johnny laugh and the thought of joking around with them crossed his mind for a second, but Johnny didnât want to do that to Subin. It was true that when Wendy brought Subin over, he thought sheâd be more like the rumours. Stiff, cold, but really good at singing and picking up dancing and rapping really fast. However, when he started to talk to her, his view of her immediately shifted.
