The basis of the ship is the fact that they are friends.
Think of it this way anon, Sinbad and Ja’far have supposedly been through hell and back together. Ja’far grew up by Sinbad’s side, has seen the sides Sinbad hates about himself, the sides that have changed, and the sides that have remained consistent and through it all has remained unchanged in his loyalty to the man.
They have gone on untold adventures, have seen the world together, have spent countless days and nights with each other.
Furthermore Sinbad saved Ja’far. Ja’far was originally a mindless drone so to speak, a boy raised to follow orders and to assassinate anyone his superiors commanded him to. Initially Ja’far had even been sent to killSinbad. But somehow, in a way that will hopefully be revealed one day to us, Sinbad not only managed to defeat Ja’far but managed to do so in a way that would compel the assassin to devote his entire life to Sinbad.
There is a trust and a dependency between them. Sinbad saved Ja’far from a darkness and now Ja’far will not only follow Sinbad back into that dark world but will work to bring all of Sinbad’s dreams to fruition even if it is Sinbad himself who hesitates. In the manga Sinbad asks Ja’far after his talk with Kougyoku “I have become a sly person, haven’t I?" others might have tried to beat around the bush and to deny Sin having such flaws but Ja’far doesn’t fuck around.
"That’s right. You have become sly. You’ve acheived many things and became what you didn’t want to become. But-! This is the path you chose! And things will inevitably change. You don’t have any choice but to proceed forward!…I will follow you to the end."
Ja’far knows of the shameful sides of Sinbad just as much as Sinbad knows of the shameful sides of Ja’far. But despite their overwhelming flaws and pasts they work in perfect unison as companions and adore and depend on one another.
They are, so to speak, what every couple strives to become. Friends who bear witness to these flaws, who overcome the impossible, and who still love each other despite everything.
And at the same time, for Sinja, there is a sense of forbiddenness.
Sinbad cannot allow himself to become close to others least they become a liability. All of his generals have accepted that they may die in service to Sinbad and even if it hurts Sinbad cannot be hindered by their deaths. For us Sinja shippers that means there is a love between them that they are not at liberty to explore. They have a hidden UST so to speak that if breached could very well destroy everything they have worked so hard for. Ja’far refuses to allow this to happen but Sinbad is weak. He wavers within the manga as soon as a seed of doubt is planted within his head so it is up to Ja’far to not allow the love he feels for his king to escalate any further than it has. Add unto that how a king is expected to take a queen and Sinbad’s refusal to marry, how scandalous it could be for a king to be caught fraternizing with his advisor and many other misc things and you have yourself a ship.
I hope this made sense. I could ramble more but I didnt want to get too headcanon-y.
Perfect, perfect, perfect! Thank you for saying all the things I couldn't put into words.
