I'm testing danger more now, without you and I feel fine. I'm climbing fire towers in heavy winds, doing 115 in her BMW in the middle of traffic on route 7. I'm mixing substances, to find truth. Not in you, I don't expect that anymore. However, I am finding that peace, comes from myself, I choose to feel. I am in charge of my own emotions.

On our way to the county fair, which doubled as a surprise concert for her. I drove my fathers truck; I intended on making a good impression. Close to our destination, the creativity in her eye sparkled as she begged me to turn around. Unbeknownst to me, she was searching to make memories. In the middle of Dutchess County, New York, on a busy country road, she spotted a field. A field made of roses in the shape of a heart. It was our first outing yet, she left me inclined to focus on forever. The smile on her face as she tresspassed upon the property where the heart lie, was a feature I wasn't going to be quick to forget. I remember being nervous then, and laugh at the contrast as she tells me now that I'm her one and only, even more convincing of her attractive mind being drawn to me, is that she tells me my fondest memory. The memory I hold of that moment, is when she knew that I was perfect for her; all because I knew how to "let her live, freely."

I remember the sundress she was wearing. The flowy, intricate designs that kept her curves a secret. I remember the taste of whiskey on her breath. Mostly, I remember the feeling. It was as if I had known her for years, even though we just said “hello,” for the first time. It seemed important, she seemed important.

Now she tells me I have the worst singing voice she’s ever heard. When I stop, she tells me not to and rests her head on my shoulder while I hold the steering wheel. I’ve learned that this is what Love seems to be about, this is what seems to make it real. Memories, and the feeling that rushes back every time you revisit the memory.

She wanted to live a storybook love and she deserved every second of it. The rope swing hanging off a tree in the back yard, a treehouse for the kids nestled atop the canopy. She would sit with the love of her life, on her wrap around porch. A glass of tea in her hand as the sun starts to settle. The giggle of her children, the laughter of her husband. He looks at her, at them, gratefully.

She said I was exactly like a band-aid. I healed her wounds and when I ripped off, it hurt, bad, momentarily.
