Sedna for Nessiepress’s zine, Creatures of the Deep!
Sedna is a Canadian goddess of marine mammals. She’s got a variety of myths explaining how she came to be a goddess, but each has her father taking her out to sea in his kayak to drown her and then cutting her fingers off when she tries to hang onto the boat. She sinks to the bottom of the ocean and her severed fingers become the first seals and walruses. It’s pretty grim stuff.
Sedna was thought of as a fairly bad-tempered deity (understandably so, I’m sure we’ll all agree), and it was very important to maintain her favor if one wanted a steady supply of seal meat to feed one’s family.
Oh my gosh, the internet cut out about 15 minutes ago and I flailed all around the house and reset the WIFI and asked Cthulhu for forgiveness and I just barely got this uploaded to gmail for the Monsters of the Deep zine by Nessie Press.
Anyway, I think chimaera fish are rad and I love the really exaggerated lateral line and “war paint” that the ampullae of Lorenzini give them. What spooky cuties

Look down friend, that girl isn’t what you think she is! My submission to the Monsters of the Deep zine~ Everyone should check it out, there are a lot of great artists submitting!
The encantado is a pink Amazonian river dolphin that turns into a human. They enjoy parties, food, and lots of sex. Sometimes they kidnap their lovers, or anyone who gets too close to the river. They wear cute hats on their heads to hide their blowholes, which don’t go away after transformation~
My submission for the Nessie Press, Monsters of the Deep zine, the Portuguese Man o’ War!! Their tentacles can reach up to over a hundred feet long, pretty crazy stuff.
