seeTrees Call for Reflection and Hope with New Single “Break in the Light”
Indie-rock band seeTrees returns with their latest song “Break in the Light,” an introspective, Americana-tinged anthem that wrestles with the question of what we leave behind for future generations. Its message sits between humility and sanguinity, capturing the quiet frustration of feeling powerless in the face of larger problems, while still reaching toward a more sustainable and compassionate future. “Break in the Light” is available on all major streaming platforms now. “Break in the Light” takes off with upbeat, danceable energy, instantly establishing a lighthearted and joyful feel that carries through from the very first moment. Opening with dreamlike piano chords and propulsive drum and guitar patterns, the track immediately evokes a lively, feel-good tone. Merging Americana and cinematic rock, “‘Break in the Light’ addresses the question of whether or not we’re leaving things better off than we found them for the next generation,” songwriter Drew Lawrence shares. With lyrics like “I get a little bit restless / Thinking about you / And what we’re leaving behind” and “I feel a little defenseless / Like there’s nothing I can do,” Lawrence captures the apprehension of contemplating what’s to come and how there is a certain responsibility owed to the next generations. Through earnest lyricism and a breezy, rhythmic soundscape, the song explores the balance between vulnerability and the awareness that our descendants will inherit the decisions made by us. Bringing additional depth to the track’s rich sonic landscape, “Break in the Light” features guitar work from Jason Abraham Roberts, known for his collaborations with Spoon and Norah Jones, alongside bass from Aaron Michael Stern (Gary Clark Jr., Curtis Harding, and Laura Jean Anderson). Born within the creative pulse of Los Angeles in 2024, seeTrees emerged when songwriter Drew Lawrence, formerly of the Americana band The Dales, crossed paths with Luke Adams. What began as a creative partnership quickly blossomed into a shared pursuit of crafting heartfelt, atmospheric rock songs steeped in nostalgia, hope, and human connection. Lawrence, who co-wrote Christina Perri’s multi-platinum breakthrough hit “Jar of Hearts,” brings a seasoned songwriting touch to the project, while Adams helps shape the band’s expansive and evocative sound. Drawing from rock icons like Tom Petty, The War on Drugs, and Wilco, seeTrees creates music that feels both timeless and refreshingly alive. Following a whirlwind 2025 that included more than fifty live performances and the release of their debut album, Greater Than The Past, the band now turns its attention to a summer West Coast tour and its forthcoming sophomore record, featuring “Break in the Light” and the previously released singles “Easy Times” and “Lights Out in the City.” The band has been touted in the press by Big Takeover Magazine, Buzzbands.LA, Jammerzine, antiMusic, Rock Era Magazine, and has been spun on 88.5 FM – The SoCal Sound. “Break in the Light” is a hopeful, cinematic track with a sunlit feel that balances humility with optimism, reflecting on whether we are leaving a better world for our future. The single is available now on all major streaming platforms.
