Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - 1978 Not only is this a bad movie staring Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees, but it has bad cover versions of Beatles songs. The best part is the Earth Wind and Fire version of "Got to get you into my life." Oh and it's the first role for Carel Struycken who would later play Mr. Homn from Star Trek and Lurch in the newer Adams Family movies.

The Doug Pit(t)

I've discovered and/or classified a phenomenon that occurs in the the land of the rich and famous. I call it "The Doug Pit." This is what siblings of famous people fall into as their more fortunate brother or sister starts to make it big.

The name sake for this debilitating state is none other than Doug Pitt. He is resigned to his fate and is rather okay with being the "wait he's related to Brad Pitt" guy.

Other not so famous relatives do not fare as well being so close to the limelight. Some other dwellers of the Doug Pit include:

Frank Stallone

Hunter Johansson

Claudine Farrel

Owen Wilson

The list goes on.

I am in the process of creating a support group for these beleaguered bretheren. The He Ain't Heavy, He's My Famous Brother (HAHHMFB) Foundation will be accepting donations and volunteers by the end of this year. Thanks to all of those who have helped already and lets make sure to start spreading awareness about the life threatening "Doug Pit."

Who knew a movie called Black Death would be so dark? Almost done with it though, review to come

Sucker Punch

So I finally started watching this movie. I was intrigued by what I saw of previews even though I hadn't heard anything good about the movie. And now I know why.

Now, this wasn't a terrible movie, I just feel like I've seen this movie before. As with most of the sound track, this movie just feels like a bad cover version of a bunch of other movies. Nothing really original, but at least I liked the original pieces  the movie is comprised of.

The one thing this movie has going for it is its visuals (no, not just the pretty girls with machine guns). I'm talking about the pretty girls with machine guns fighting clockwork Nazis. And the now trademark Zack Snyder live action comic book look.

This is a nice film to look at, but don't try to hard to enjoy the plot or the acting. Just enjoy some steampunk/zombie-Nazi-killing hawties.

Hypothetical Nerd Dilemma

James T. Kirk - Captain of The USS Enterprise NCC-1701(A)

A tried and true captain who follows the Prime Directive, as long as it is the best answer to the current situation. He is not afraid to bend the rules to serve the common good. A master of disguise and a consummate ladies man, Kirk keeps his cool, even when he is freaking out.

Jean Luc Picard - Captain of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701D

A very grounded captain (as grounded as you can be in space I guess) with a wide variety of experiences to draw upon. The only captain to be captured by the Borg and then return to command. He can see every situation from both sides and does what needs to be done.

William Adama - Commander of the Battlestar Galactica

Adama is an intense leader, faced with decisions that no one should have to make. He is beholden to honor, military tradition, and what is best for the remaining members of his race. Of the three captains he has the most challenging job. No home, no help, just surviving to survive.  

So who is your captain? Also, could Adama have survived in Starfeet? Would Kirk or Picard have been able to command the Galactic and lead its crew to safety?

My Way Home (S5:E8) is such a well crafted episode. They pull everything together into the Wizard of Oz theme perfectly.

Nellie Bertram trying to take Andy Bernard's job makes the show feel more like the old The Office. The dynamic shifted as soon as the Nard Dog took over. With Michael Scott it was everyone against him, now it's lets take care of Andy. Not necessarily bad, but very different.
