TT ep 9. Many seem to like the shock value of show Becka killing her father but I think that was just lazy writing and so typical/common in shows. I'm sure the writers will forget a lot in the next seasons what they did in the first season.
Showing that Maddox is still on the run for a wife could be a foreshadowing to Daisy marrying him. He's desperate for a child bride he probably doesn't care she's touched. Garth is still useless but will probably get Becka out. Look that's another thing which is bothering, like get him married to Daisy let them be a spy couple to tear down Gilead but no he's marrying only one and helps only that one person. No sense. This is a Becka focused season I hope the next season will be more deep of the other characters.
Also if show Garth gets Becka out to Canada while married. Wouldn't he still be a married man in Gilead but with a "lost" wife or he's going to Canada too and "operates" there he's not useful in Gilead anyway as Mayday.
Yeah, we're not really all that shocked to see people enjoying the shock value of how Daisy exposed Dr Grove (in this current political climate, it's certainly an interesting choice to have a character lying about being assaulted to try and bring down a [known to the audience but not to most other characters] bad man) and Becka killing her serially abusive father to protect Agnes. On the surface, it's satisfying. It's easy to digest and offing an abuser, much like 4x10 with Fred, is very enjoyable. But unlike what happened with Fred, this plot felt like it was rather abrupt. If Daisy had been the one to attack him, it would have felt built up to, much like the plot with Fred was. There were threads throughout the narrative, with her being protective, impulsive, properly educated, and getting her period which (for reasons that don't make much sense) turned her into a purple and put her immediately into his proximity. And it wouldn't have the extremely troubling narrative of her lying about sexual assault. The only real hint towards Becka doing such a thing is her internalized fervour for divine justice, as is the norm for 'sinners' in Gilead.
And sadly we agree. They'll absolutely forget a lot or hand wave away details that mattered previously but now hinder their ability to write the plots they want right at that very moment. They did that all the time on tht, tt will be no different.
We're not entirely sure who Maddox is (as we are only watching clips, it's easy to forget names) but it's possible. The show likes foreshadowing, but it likes misdirection as well. It's hard to say.
We agree- we certainly long for some sort of fake!married rebel plot. Alas the idea is too cool for the fools writing these shows.
In all honesty, it seems more likely that Becka will be rescued by women, whether it is the aunts or June making orders. Garth may well be a contributing factor, but he certainly won't be the main one.
Yeah, ideally they'd spread some of the attention around on the other characters in the second season. Shu is particularly neglected, and as we've stated before, Garth could use some more attention as well. Then there's Lydia and the aunts that need more content as well, and some of the other girls could use more attention and depth.
It's difficult to say how Gilead would treat a man with a wife that has deserted him for Canada. It's different to being a widow. It's possible he'd be allowed to remarry, but it's also a bad look for him that might force him to flee as well, thus putting him closer to his book plot.
