110 Years Ago Today- The Gallipoli Campaign

The Gallipoli Campaign began on February 19, 1915, and lasted until January 9, 1916. Gallipoli was an Anglo-French operation against Turkey. It was intended to force the Dardanelles channel and to occupy Constantinople. British authorities considered the plans for the operation between 1904 and 1911. However, military and naval opinions were not in favor of it. When war began between the Allies and Turkey in November of 1914, the venture was reexamined and recognized as dangerous, but possible.
