a/n: idk why i decided to write this but here i am. be forewarned, this is going to be multiple chapters. for now, the first chapter is what i will deem as mature so be mindful of the above in tags. the other chapters will be rated accordingly. i hope you are in it for the long run. please enjoy.
CHAPTER 1
The boxes in your hands were heavy as you trudged up the steps of your new apartment building. It was in the city, one of those buildings where each floor housed 3-4 apartments of decent size, maxing at around 5 or so floors. You had just moved here from a few towns over since you were about to start your first year of Graduate school at a new university. In all honesty, you probably shouldn’t have waited until the last minute to find an apartment, but luck was on your side it seemed. This building just so happened to be two blocks from the university and had an apartment available to whoever first applied for it. Your friends and family thought it was a little odd that the lease was a first come first serve basis, but hey, it was the best option you could find for what you needed. You thanked your lucky stars for being the one to find it first, as if fate itself handed it straight to you.
You reached the third floor after what felt like a million steps. You hoped that the only reason it felt like so much was because you decided against having help to move everything, besides the large furniture items you had a moving company handle, and carried the enormous boxes full of your belongings yourself. Your apartment was 3-C, the second door on the left side of the hallway. You dropped the boxes in front of your door, panting and stretching briefly before fidgeting in your coat pocket to find your keys. “Where the hell are they?” you muttered to yourself. A victorious smile spanned across your face as you held up your keys and then unlocked the door in front of you.
You didn’t feel like picking up the boxes again, opting to use your feet to nudge them through the door. You let them stay at the front of the apartment, deciding that now wasn’t the time to unpack everything. You had just finished moving, it was okay to take a break for a second in your mind. You were still trying to familiarize yourself with your new living arrangements. The entryway led straight into the kitchen and dining area, opening up to a larger living room area past it. At the far end of the apartment were two bedrooms and a bathroom between them. One would be used as your bedroom and the other would become your office space- where you would inevitably be spending a lot of your time once your courses began. You plopped yourself on the couch, letting out a content sigh as your eyes wandered around the apartment.
A knock at your door surprised you. You checked your watch, only 7:14pm. But who would be coming over so late anyway? You made your way to the front door, checking the peephole before anything else. A woman stood outside the door, she seemed overly excited, almost terrifyingly excited. Before the door was even fully open, the woman couldn’t wait to meet you. “Hi~ How are you?! My name’s Anne, I brought you a welcoming gift,” she said with a wide smile as she shoved a tray of cookies into your hands. You were stunned at first, the joyous personality in front of you was almost unbearable at 7pm. “T-thank you, my name is [Y/N]. It’s nice to meet you,” you said sweetly as you lifted the tupperware lid to see the cookies.
The smell was amazing, like they were freshly made and still warm. “Those are my signature cookies, they’re like chips- you can’t have just one,” Anne hummed followed by a hearty laugh. She was loud and boisterous, but seemed sincere when she spoke. You chuckled as you closed the container back. “So are you one of my new neighbors?” She nodded happily, but almost aggressively, at your question. “Yes, I live right next to you in 3-A. I just wanted to give you something nice for your first night, but I won’t keep you long.” She playfully slapped your shoulder. “Just introducing lil ole me, you can get the container back to me later when you finish them. Don’t eat ‘em all in one go.” With that, Anne winked and walked back to her apartment. You stood there in your doorway for a moment, both amused and a little confused. She was definitely an odd character, but entertaining nonetheless.
You closed the door, locking it back, and placed the container of cookies on your kitchen counter. The plan was to go to bed early tonight so that you could wake up early the next day and unpack your belongings. It wasn’t even 8pm yet, but you were already done with the day. There was no way you were about to try and cook yourself a meal from scratch right now, so instant ramen in a cup sounded much more appetizing. As you stood in your kitchen waiting for the noodles to finish, the eerie feeling of someone watching you loomed over you. Oddly enough, it didn’t make you feel completely uncomfortable, it almost made you feel safe. Assuming it was just anxiety from being in a new place for the first night, you brushed it off and enjoyed your ramen.
The next morning was serene, it felt good to wake up in your new apartment. You made your way to the kitchen lazily, still in your pajamas as you made your morning coffee and ate your bowl of honeycomb cereal for breakfast. The boxes by your front door felt like they were staring at you. Your least favorite part about moving was unpacking everything and putting it away, but the boxes weren’t going to grow arms and unpack themselves any time soon. You finished your breakfast, brushed your teeth, and changed into your clothes for the day.
You unboxed your items, being strict and forcing yourself to put the items away as you pulled them out. You knew yourself too well; if you took everything out and then attempted to put it away, everything would just sit on your floor for a few days. You broke down the boxes so you could take them downstairs to the designated recycling area. The boxes were lighter, but that didn’t make them any easier to carry. The awkwardness of holding the broken down cardboard without dropping them was just as difficult as carrying them with things inside.
You managed to make it downstairs without dropping them. The recycling area was on the bottom floor, not far from the front doors. It was nice your building had recycling, the small effort an attempt to try and help the planet. You quickly turned around to head back to your apartment, to finally relax after all your hard work this morning.
You reached the top of the stairs to your floor, turning the corner without paying any attention, your body crashed into another, their hands catching you as you stumbled. Their hands were cold, but somehow warm at the same time. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry. I didn’t-“ you started to apologize, the words in your throat disappearing as you looked up to the person holding you still.
His hair was dark, shorter in the back with longer pieces in the front. The few strands framing his face and the tips on hmm the rest of his hair were a lighter teal color, really making his golden eyes pop. His eyes stared back at you, waiting for you to finish your sentence but you were seemingly in a trance it felt like. “Don’t worry about it,” he reassured as he let go of you. He didn’t smile at all, his face seemed very stoic, but you were intrigued. You’d be lying to yourself if you said his appearance wasn’t what you were into.
His demeanor was so intriguing, it was almost like you were drawn to him and wanted to know more, but he didn’t give off the vibe like he was a people person. He was wearing a black hoodie with some kind of logo on it, you couldn’t quite make it out, and dark joggers that looked more like tech wear, rounded out by his black and white vans. You could feel your heartbeat skip a little as you looked at him.
When you were back on your feet, he left you at the top of the stairs and continued on his way. Who was he? Being on the same floor as you, he clearly was one of your neighbors- unless Anne had a boyfriend you had yet to find out about. The thought of Anne made a lightbulb light up in your head; if there was anyone who probably knew about this place and the people who lived here, it would be Anne.
You came back to your apartment, finding the container of cookies on the counter still. She wasn’t lying when she said you couldn’t just have one. The Tupperware only housed 2 cookies now, the rest were your well deserved snacks as you unpacked the boxes earlier. You put the two on a paper towel on the counter, you’d eat them later for sure, you thought to yourself. It was time to bring the container back to Anne, and hopefully, find out more about the mysterious, golden eyed man.
Anne was excited to have you over at her apartment, almost squealing when she opened the door and found you there. Her apartment was loud like her, filled with vibrant colors and very busy in almost every corner and crevice. She definitely knew how to coordinate colors though, the colors all complemented each other- so it wasn’t too straining in the eyes the more you looked.
She was a nice girl, full of life and confidence, it just wasn’t the norm you were used to. None of your friends in college or where you lived before spoke with as much enthusiasm as Anne did, but you appreciated how unapologetically herself she was. You stayed over for awhile, just chatting and getting to know each other more. Anne had similar interests as you, like how she couldn’t go a day without her coffee either and loved going to cafes, or how her favorite animal was also a cat but sadly she was allergic and couldn’t get one.
“Hey, so what about my other neighbors? I haven’t met the other two yet,” you said, changing the subject.
“Oh! Well Javier, or Javi, across from me works a lot. He works at one of the hospitals so his schedule is always rotating for shifts as they need him to. He’s really nice! He likes to hang out, so some nights he will come over to my place and we play board games. He’s a little nerdy, but it’s kinda adorable if you ask me,” she boasted.
You were taken aback for a second, she just said all of that in one breath it felt like, you couldn’t help but laugh at how giddy she was to talk about him. “So, Anne, is he cute? I feel like you’re not telling me something here,” you chuckled. Anne’s face was dusted with a rosy pink shade, you rendered the chatty kathy speechless. “He.. he’s very handsome, in my opinion,” she said coyly.
“You’ve never thought to ask him out? Or what?” you inquired. If he came over a lot to her apartment, then it would seem unlikely that he already had a partner, and if Anne liked him, then why not make a move? “Oh god, no! I’d be way too shy to even ask that. He’s way out of my league, and I don’t want to make it weird between us. I .. I like when he comes over and we just spend time together.”
Her reasoning was valid, putting yourself out there did always come with the consequence of rejection and ruining whatever relationship was already established. “Hmm, well okay. If I see him, I’ll be your wingwoman- I’ll put in a good word for you,” you chuckled and Anne shook her head at your words playfully. Given how Anne talked about Javi, it was clear he wasn’t the one you accidentally ran into earlier that day. “And the other neighbor?”
Anne’s expression changed a bit, she didn’t seem as excited to talk about the other the way she did about Javi. “Oh, him. His name is Xiao, his apartment is across from yours on the other side of Javier’s. He’s very… reserved. I’ve hardly ever seen him, maybe just a handful of times. He works the night shift at a warehouse downtown, so he’s only really out and about when everyone else is sleeping.”
“He doesn’t come over to hangout and play board games with you?” you teased. Anne lightly smacked your shoulder again and laughed. “God, no! He’s way too quiet, he’d never want to be in the same room as me for longer than a minute- I know it,” she chuckled. “He seems nice though, just a person who keeps to themselves a lot. Not really the kind of guy I’m into, but to each their own.”
“I think I ran into him earlier by accident when I came back up from taking recycling down,” you stated. Anne had a look of shock on her face, her eyes wide and jaw dropped. “He was up, like right now? That’s crazy! I’ve only ever seen him late in the evening before he heads to work. Dark hair, lighter on the tips?”
You nodded your head, yes, that’s exactly who you ran into earlier. “Well I’ll be. Yeah that’s him. Now you won’t see him for another year or so,” she joked. “He’s a good neighbor though, always quiet and not in anyone else’s business, really the opposite of myself.”
“No,no! You’ve been so nice to me since I met you, I think you’re a good neighbor. I mean who wouldn’t like someone who makes bomb ass cookies, they were so good I already finished them,” you tried to reassure her. She smiled sweetly at your words and thanked you. You spent the rest of the afternoon just trying to get to know Anne more, after all, you were new to this city, so having a friend you could be close with would be comforting.
It had been about a month since you had moved into your apartment. Your nights off from work found you at Anne’s apartment frequently, spending the evening playing board games with her, and occasionally, with Javi if he wasn’t busy. You often thought about Anne’s words the day you asked her about Xiao, her saying that you wouldn’t see him again for another year jokingly. You thought nothing of it at first, but now after not seeing him anymore since then, you felt like maybe it was going to end up true.
This night was a late night at work, you had traded shifts with a coworker, taking their 2nd shift so they could attend a friend’s bachelorette party. You didn’t mind taking it, you just hated how late at night it was when you were finally leaving. After a long day at work, you were drained. There was nothing more that you wanted than to go home and plop yourself on your bed, drifting off into a nice slumber for the night. Unfortunately, your growling stomach had other plans. A stop at the convenience store wouldn’t hurt right? The shop was about halfway from the store you worked for and your apartment, so it’s not like you were going out of your way to grab you a late night snack.
You walked into the store, the clock on the wall showing that it was just past 10:30p. The store wasn’t busy, only having barely a handful of customers in the store. You walked the aisles, trying to decide what all you wanted to get. A honeybun? A soft drink? Maybe a bag of chips or two if you were really feeling it? You decided that the pack of Hostess donuts and a Dr. Pepper would suffice for the night, even though you would probably hate yourself tomorrow for how crummy you’d feel. As you put your items on the counter for the cashier to ring up, you couldn’t shake the feeling again like you were being watched. This time though, it was vastly different from the time you felt it at your apartment, this feeling made your skin crawl.
The cashier finished ringing up your items, putting them both into a bag and pushing it across the counter for you with your receipt in it. “Thank you,” you said with a smile as you grabbed the bag and headed out the door. You turned your phone on, opening your messages to Anne to send a text that you were on your way to your apartment. The feeling you had in the store was justified as you saw two guys leave a few moments after you did and head in the same direction as you. You’d be stupid to not think that they were following you, it was too convenient that they left when you did and just so happened to be headed the same way. At least you knew if something happened and Anne didn’t hear you come home, she would probably be calling the police immediately.
“Hey, sorry I’m late,” a voice called out to you from behind. Part of you thought it sounded familiar, but you weren’t taking the chance of turning around and it being one of the two strangers following you through the city. You wanted to keep walking, hoping to get home safe and sound. The abrupt grab of your arm almost made you scream until you saw the familiar golden eyes looking back at you. “Sorry I’m late, I know I was supposed to meet you earlier, but I had something come up,” Xiao said as he gave you a look pleading you to go along with his story. You barely knew him, but were thankful that he wasn’t a complete stranger, you felt more comfortable walking with him anyway. The two men following you decided to abandon their disgusting mission after seeing you with Xiao.
Walking with Xiao was quiet, he really didn’t talk that much or seem like he wanted to, but you wanted to at least thank him for being your saving grace for the night. “Thank you, for y’know.” You looked at him, trying to read his expression only to find there wasn’t really one on his face. He just looked forward as he spoke. “You’re welcome.” The apartment building wasn’t much further, soon the awkward silence between you both would come to an end. You both made your way up the stairs to your floor, passing by Anne and Javi’s apartments to your own. You were about to turn the knob to go inside your apartment when you realized you didn’t actually ever introduce yourself to him.
“I- I wanted to say thank you again. And I never introduced myself to you, my name’s [Y/N],” you blurted out to him as he was halfway through his door. You could’ve sworn you saw his lips curl at the edges in a small smile, but this could’ve easily been the lighting and shadows playing games with your mind. “It wasn’t a problem. Name’s Xiao. Are you sure you’ll be okay tonight? If you need me, you can just send me a text.” He pulled out his phone and handed it to you so you could add your number into it. You put in your contact info and sent yourself a text to exchange numbers easily. “There, it’s in there. Thank you again.” You smiled up at him. He nodded, acknowledging your words as he took his phone back before turning around into his apartment and closing the door for the night. You went into your own apartment, putting your bag of snacks on the kitchen table. Ping.
You raised your phone up to check the notification. It was Anne, actually it was a few messages from Anne. You opened the thread to read her texts. A few texts were keyboard smashes before the last one just saying “Xiao ?!?? Hello ?!??! It is almost 11pm ???? WHY ARE YOU TWO TOGETHER ???” It was almost humorous how wild Anne’s imagination was right now, she must’ve heard you come up the steps and checked out her peep hole to see you and Xiao walk by together. You proceeded to explain to her what happened, how you stopped at the store for some snacks, how you were followed out by two guys, and how thankfully Xiao happened to recognize you and walk you home.
[Anne]: Oh my god ?! Well I’m glad Xiao was there! That was pretty convenient!!
It was convenient, you weren’t sure what would have happened if he hadn't been there and walked you back to the apartment. The more you thought about it, the more you wondered. Where did he even come from? Maybe he was at the same store and you just didn’t notice? Or could he have seen you from down the street and realized what the two men following you were doing? You had so many questions, but all you knew was that you appreciated him helping you, even if it was strangely convenient.
You found yourself on your couch, half asleep with the bag of Hostess donuts in your lap, when your phone received another ping. But this time, it was from Xiao.
[Xiao]: So.. still good?
You were a little surprised he was even checking up on you, he didn’t seem like the type to really do something like this, but it’s not like you were mad at it. You responded to his text letting him know you were fine and about to head to bed finally. You got up and put your stuff away. The same feeling you felt before of being watched came back, the feeling like the first day you moved in. It was warm, comforting, and made you feel safe, which all really helped ease you after the night you had. You slept peacefully that night knowing you were safe and sound in your bed, thanks to your quiet, reclusive neighbor Xiao.

A call of your name awakens you for the thousandth time tonight.
With eyes droopy, and the shadow of a yawn on your lips, you sit a little straighter.
He always makes your heartbeat quicken, after all.
Kazuha. Your best friend, everyone’s favorite boy in campus and the one you’ve fallen for.
“Exhausting yourself like that is no good, hummingbird.”
As if that damned childhood nickname wasn’t enough, his hands move to your shoulders, making you start.
You clear your throat. Then, slumping over your desk, you mumble:
“I have to finish this tonight, Kazuha. The due date’s tomorrow.”
Yet your words seem to contradict your actions, for your lashes unavoidably flutter closed.
Momentarily, the words in front of you disappear, replaced by warm sunsets behind your eyelids and the scent of coffee.
Kazuha chuckles, one of his hands moving to rest atop your troubled head.
“Here, drink this.” He murmurs, pushing a just made cup of coffee in front of you.
It’s your favorite.
With your cheek smushed against your crossed arms, you look up at him.
And you swear Kazuha’s smile alone is brighter than the thousands of glittery pinpricks visible through the window. His eyes are the sunset you’d like to walk into, and his hair reminds you of the moonlight under which you wish you could kiss him.
You love Kazuha. You want him. Not just as a friend.
Your mouth opens to thank him.
They say, there are occasions in which planets align to tie fated lovers by the threads of time that constellates every image in the firmament. The next statement to leave your lips would present a perfect example of it.
“I love you.” Spells itself in your own voice before you can process what you are saying. Then, a gasp leaves your lips, hands flailing to cover your face.
“W-wait no, that’s not…” his hand cupping your cheek makes all coherent sound die in your throat.
“That’s not what you meant?” He teases, finger pads smoothing over your cheekbones. “I would be saddened if that was the case, dove.” He whispers, platinum starlit strands tickling your forehead.
His breath fans your already heated face, those lips of his magnetizing, tempting.
You can’t hold back. And neither can he.
Your wish of kissing him in the moonlight becomes true tonight.
The coffee goes cold.
˗ˏˋ ꒰ Xiao
It’s already pitch dark when you hear him arrive.
As always, you run to the front door to open even before he’s had time to pull his motorcycle helmet off.
“Xiao!” you exclaim, somehwere between excitement and surprise. “You actually came!” Your words muffle against his shoulder, where your face has decided to nuzzle into.
You fail to notice it, but his cheeks are the same pink of the cherry blossoms you liked to use to make flower crowns for him.
“Of course I did. I already told you, didn’t I? That if you need anything, call. Besides, it’s not the first time we’ve hung out at 3 am.” He huffs, golden eyes averted to the side.
“Yeah but we meet up to game or watch movies, not because of some lame essay.” You whine.
Xiao exhales, exasperation overpowered by his growing smile.
“Come on, let’s go inside before you catch a cold.” He urges, hand hovering over the small of your back, not quite daring to touch you.
Yet that little gesture alone is enough for the chill of the night to be forgotten, knees going weak, heart wildly spreading untamed fiery butterflies through your bloodstream.
“[Y/n], come on, focus.” Your friend urges yet again. Your gaze is lost in the teal colored ink of the swirling pattern tattooed on Xiao’s right arm. Since he got it when you two had barely graduated high school, you’ve always seemed entranced by it.
“Incomprehensible.” Is what he used to say, every time your fingertips ghosted over the intricate lines. But the carmine that painted on his cheeks confirmed his true feelings.
He really liked it, he likes it, your touch.
He likes you.
“But I’m tired…” you complain, absentmindedly, pads caressing his arm. Gosh, Xiao hopes you don’t notice the shivers and goosebumps you cause on him.
Playfully, the boy softly bonks you on the head with the stack of papers you have to memorize.
“You should sleep, then.” He points out. “I’ve told you you shouldn’t stay up so late.”
“Says you!” You smirk, squeezing his arm, gaze momentarily lost in his molten honey eyes. “Besides, I like you.”
A gasp leaves your mouth at the same moment scarlet creeps up Xiao’s neck, expanding through his cheeks to the tip of his pierced ears.
“S-sorry! I mean, I like this, hanging out with you, at night. Because it’s with you, so it’s fun and I like yo- it.” You bring a hand to your forehead. “Actually, I’m making it worse… What I mean to say i-”
Anything else you might have wanted to add goes unsaid.
No more words are needed anyway, not when Xiao’s lips smash against your own, making obvious any feeling concealed until now.
His hands find your hips, laying you down on the couch, as yours lose in the dark silky strands of his jade colored hair.
In the dim lighting, both his eyes and tattoo seem to glow, akin to fireflies headed only to you.
It’s dawn when your alarm clock goes off. As always, you hit snooze. But this time, you get to curl up in the embrace of your boyfriend for five more minutes.
˗ˏˋ ꒰ Scaramouche
“Wrong again.” Scaramouche sighs, for the nth time today. Why did he even decide to sign up to help you study will probably remain a mystery to him.
Well, not exactly a mystery, given he knows what he feels for you is past platonic at this point. But is he going to admit that to himself, let alone, to you?
Not if he has a say in the matter.
“Oh…” you mutter, gaze cast downwards, a pout Scaramouche shouldn’t be thinking of kissing off right now on your lips.
In an attempt to feign annoyance, Scaramouche huffs, taking the notebook from you to show you the right way to solve the exercise.
You try to concentrate on the homework, but, almost hypnotically, your eyes are drawn to your friend’s hands. The way his tendons and veins protrude every time his grip on the pen tightens; the apparent softness of their pristine skin; the pretty contrast of his black nail polish against the pallor of his complexion; the coolness of the silver rings he wears against your skin…
Wait. You shouldn’t be able to feel that.
His voice breaks anything resembling your possible line of thought.
His “What are you doing?” falls over you like a freezing rain in the dead of night.
Your eyes widen when you catch sight of your hand on top of Scaramouche’s free one, idly playing with his rings.
In your rush retracting it, you fail to notice the boy’s face lighting up in the same shade as his signature red eyeliner.
“I-I… Sorry.” You manage to squeak, your own face burning up, heartbeat loud in your ears.
“You… you didn’t listen to anything I said at all, did you?” He asks, eyes of midnight lit blooms averted to the side.
You shake your head, fiddling with your fingers over your lap. Gods, you wish the earth would swallow you right now.
He sighs, then:
“You are lucky I love you.”
Now it’s Scaramouche’s turn to wish he could be swallowed by the ground.
Wide eyed gazes cross in the room, both your heartbeats at a standstill, waiting for the tidal wave to either pass or break furiously.
“You-” “I-” You both start at the same time.
He frowns. You have to contain the grin lighting up your face in technicolor.
“Yeah, I like you, okay?” Scaramouche finally grumbles, dusk hyacinth gaze shadowed by the indigo stardust of his hair.
“What was that, Kuni?” You tease, all efforts to hide your smile flying out the window. “I don’t think I heard you.” You relish in the masterpiece in crimson that is his face, the haughty and proud Scaramouche at a loss for words.
“You… Get the next question right and maybe I’ll repeat it. Dummy.” He murmurs, his own lips curling to match the smiling moon in the starry sky.
˗ˏˋ ꒰ Albedo
Maybe, texting your friend (who you are very much in love with) begging him to keep you company tonight is proving to be completely and utterly unproductive. Whatever concentration you might have achieved is akin to snow illuminated in gilded rays, helplessly melting away every time your eyes land on his figure.
Calm, cool and collected, the picture perfect image of a golden prince. Albedo’s sunlit frozen lake eyes scan his own research papers, expression apparently phlegmatic and unaware of your shameless staring.
Yet, behind the beautiful portrait he exposes, mischief abounds, especially when it comes to you.
“Are you sure you’re working on your essay?” He asks, without tearing his gaze away from his work.
At his question, you start, the remains of the soda you were drinking almost spilling all over your laptop.
“O-of course I am!” You laugh nervously, trying to make sense of the last sentence you wrote. To no avail, for your eyes have decided to be ruled over by your heart tonight, unavoidably getting lost in the man sitting across from you.
“Is that so?” Albedo teases, leaning forward, chin resting in one of his hands. “Because I’d dare say,” he continues, teal gaze lighting up, lips curved in an all too knowing smirk. “Something else is getting your attention tonight.”
A few instants pass, with the world at a standstill, not even the exhales of your breath interrupting the enchanted tension of this moment.
“N-no, what?” You try for a laugh once again. “I-I’m totally focused on this essay. Yes, what else could be…”
You trail off, any remotely coherent utterances dying in your lips when Albedo’s knuckle wipes away from them stray droplets of your drink.
“You were saying?” He has the nerve to ask, sitting now beside you, head titled to the side, locks of blonde hair you wish to mess up as you kiss him breathless slightly falling in front of that devilishly pretty face of his.
“Y-you, I… You- You keep distracting me!” You sputter, finally, cheeks ablaze, breath labored when you try to down more of your energy drink down.
A hand resting atop the can you’re holding ceases your movements.
And when you look at him, Albedo’s eyes resemble northern lights in a not yet sunlit dawn, surrounded by the icy halo of his sky blue irises.
“Then, the feeling’s mutual.” He whispers, in the breathless millimeters separating you two. “May I?” Is the question your lips answer with a ‘yes’ when they meet his halfway.
Perhaps tonight wasn’t a waste at all, you would think to yourself, hours later, as you delicately caress Albedo’s jawline before falling into dreamy slumber by his side.

Xiao looked down at the neatly handwritten note that was given to him by Verr, the Wangshu Inn receptionist. His eyebrows furrowed together as he remembered the exchange.
“Oh! Xiao!” Verr called out, waving him over. Heaving a shallow sigh, Xiao frowned as he walked toward her.
“What do you need?” the Adeptus said almost abrasively. Verr was unperturbed by his tone and handed him a small piece of paper. All it had written on it was, ‘come to the Lihua Pools tonight!’ in neat handwriting. He knew it was (y/n), her handwriting distinct and unique. Xiao looked up to Verr and eyed her. “And why did she not just tell me herself?” he inquired, annoyed. He put the note into a hidden pocket as he listened to Verr.
“I think she said something about how she wouldn’t be able to find you and wanted to get a head start. Something along those lines.” Verr said, shrugging her shoulders. “I’m not too sure, it was hard to understand her with how excited she was.”
