do you really wanna die here?
ain't that a bitch?
i'm sorry to say that no one is that good!
you keen on earning a coin?
fuck off.
either way, you and me, we'll be even.
can't track it, can't hack it, can't trace it.
have you given any thought to where this ends?
why don't you take the night off?
i am the way into eternal pain.
nothing's ever just a conversation with you.
weren't you the one tasked to dole out the beatings, not to receive them?
i'd like to see the manager.
i'm going to kill you.
will you be putting a bullet in his head?
i guess it's time i told you to climb down off your high table and go fuck yourself.
just have fun out there.
you always have an angle, don't you?
you dip so much as a pinky back into this pond, you may well find something reaches out and drags you back into its depths.
it was an honor, my friend.
raise a hand if you can hear me.
how good is your laundry?
yeah. don't worry about me.
people don't change. you know that.
do i look civilized to you?
this kingdom is mine and mine alone.
he shot my dog.
you stand in the presence of the motherfucking king!
you can either hand over your kid, or you can die screaming alongside him!
have you thought this through? i mean, chewed down to the bone?
if you cut a king, you better cut him to the quick.
i'll have to get back to you.
you don't want me owing you.
there's no rhyme or reason to this life, it's days like today scattered among the rest.
they sure as fuck broke the mold with you.
people keep asking if i'm back and i haven't really had an answer.
enjoy your kingdom, while you still can.
the knife is in your aorta. you pull it out, you will bleed and you will die.
i know what you're thinking.
are services still off limits to me?
it should have been me.
you still need something to love.
if you still have business to attend to, take two of these beforehand.
how may i be of service?
do i know you?
you working again?
after this, we are less than even.
and here i'd feared you'd left all this behind.
i'm gonna shove so much fealty up your ass it's gonna come spilling out of your mouth.
you've broken the rules.
vengeance is all you have left.
do enjoy your party.
fourteen million is a lot of money.
your stitches will tear and you'll bleed, but you'll have full function.
i apologize for calling you at this hour.
i would've done the same thing if i was in his shoes.
let us not resort to our baser instincts.
so tell me, how was life on the other side?
i say the odds are about even.
you killed my ward, someone i was close to.
whoever comes, whoever it is: i'll kill them. i'll kill them all.
you got out once.
it's not what you did that angers me so, it's who you did it to.
i can't help you.
i just gotta catch my breath.
are you here on business?
all of this, for what?
treat all your ladies like this?
i can make this right.
okay. you made your point.
consider this a professional courtesy.
it's been a while. my condolences. how're you holding up?
i want to kill him.
management does not take kindly to that sort of behavior.
avert your eyes, my sweet.
so i guess you have a choice.
that was a pretty good fight, huh?
i'm afraid you've come all this way for nothing.
i have a job for you.
as you know, art is pain—life is suffering.
i'll make it quick, i promise.
sometimes you gotta cut a motherfucker.
you fail to understand.
they will come for you, and you will do nothing because you can do nothing.
it's okay. let's go home.
i still have time.
do you think you can scare me into opening this gate?
it seems to be fate, or happenstance, or just bad fucking luck caused our paths to cross once again.
you had your chance.
i was just sorting some stuff out.
i can do this! please!
i'm sorry i can't be there for you.
where the fuck are you?
i'm just asking you to try.
they know you're coming.
in that moment, i received some semblance of hope.
you came to me, i helped you. if you don't do this, you know the consequences.
you were always a pussy.
if you want peace, prepare for war.
everything's got a price.
i'm not telling you shit!
may i suggest a drink? bourbon perhaps?
an eye for an eye, you know how it goes.
second chances are the refuge for men who fail.
you may never return home.
you're going to die.
i'm sorry.
my apologies. i was dealing with an uninvited guest.
i look retired.
oh, and remember, you owe me.
that's unwise, i assure you.
we can keep this up as long as you'd like, but it only ends one way.
you arrogant asshole.
none of us can escape who we are.
you wanted me back, i'm back!
those who cling to death, live.
no one, not even you, can kill everyone.
is this a formal event or a social affair?
get the fuck out of my sight!
remember your daughter…
just checking up on an old friend.
we are cursed, you and i.
my allegiances run way beyond this building.
are you scared of the fucking boogeyman?
you want a war? or do you wanna just give me a gun?
what happened? we were professionals… civilized.
oh, shit. they took a finger.
how you do anything is how you do everything.
i'll leave you to it, then.
you look good.
i gotta say, i'm a pretty big fan.
March 21st, a Wizarding World drabble. Maybe the start of a longer story? Idk, I'm tired.

Although Madeline wished to be independent as much as she can, she couldn't ignore the empty seat. The chair across from her, where Olivia used to sit, has been vacant for three years now. The wounds are still raw, and it hurt to even remember her. Madeline still remembers how Olivia preferred her tea in the morning, and how she would greet her cat. How the woman — a mother figure to Madeline — always made it a point to live in the moment.
Now, at least, Madeline understood why she lived that way. And after spending endless nights weeping of grief, all she wanted is to live life the same way Olivia has. To not take a single thing for granted, and remember that everything is a lesson in one way or another.
But it's tough, especially without her. Olivia always had her way of interjecting when emotions get the better of Maddie. (That's how she likes to be called). To always find a middle ground, and to stop the tears from falling for too long.
"I miss you," Madeline whispered, picking up the empty tea cup from the coffee table. After reminiscing for an hour, Madeline turned to the kitchen area, and left the porcelain by the sink. Lacking the motivation to clean up, she turned away from the counter and retreated to her bedroom.
'C'mon, Madeline. You can at least get dressed. You've done it yesterday, you can do it today.' But the trousers on her chair are not sown the right way, and causes slight discomfort. And the shirt is a bit too tight to breathe comfortable in. The downsides of a uniform, right? But it's what helps her to keep her job, and earn enough to not lose this cozy apartment. A disaster that would be, there's nowhere else Madeline could go. No other family, and friends are scarce nowadays.
"At least Elijah is nice," she mused. There's a lot someone could say about her boss, but it's thanks to him that she can still live here, in Olivia's house.
Maddie's fingers tangled up in her hair, trying to tie it with an elastic band. The shorter strands of gold escaped her grip and framed her face, which to her looks rather ugly. But no point to nit-pick something as superficial like hair, she looks presentable at most. Elijah never judges, unless a button hangs from a thread on her shirt. Can't have a child chewing on plastic when they are expecting a gumdrop, that's asking for a lawsuit.
'Their milk teeth will fall out faster,' Madeline commented once. It had earned her a soft snicker from her employer, followed by a soft slap on the wrist.
'Can't have customers hear you say that,' he replied, before sending Maddie back off to the cash register.
---
The cold nipped at her nose, winter lasts for far too long, and spring could not come sooner. Avoiding puddles of rainwater at all cost, Madeline made big awkward steps. Sure, it looks ridiculous. But knowing that there are holes in the bottom of her shoes, she'd rather sacrifice her dignity. Nothing is worse than the feeling of wet socks in a cold candy shop.
New York has always been so busy, even in the early hours. Every man and woman trying to live a normal life had pennies to earn. Men in suits and carrying leather briefcases, hurrying their way to the office. Women in long pinstriped skirts, wiping shop windows or bringing children to school. Imagine having enough energy in the mornings to look after a pair of mini-yous. Madeline could barely gather the courage to brush her teeth after crawling out of bed. If it weren't for the reminder that her teeth would feel weird all day, they would have been rotting out already.
"Good morning, Madeline," Elijah chirped, turning the key to the shop. It wasn't hard to miss that head of blonde hair, even while his eyes were failing him.
"Mornin' boss," Maddie replied, hiding a yawn with the palm of her hand.
"Have you slept at all?" Elijah questioned, pushing his way inside and kept the door open for Madeline to slip through.
"I have."
"But poorly?"
"Absolutely."
Elijah sighed, his eyes following the young woman inside. If it weren't for the fact that he needed her help, he would have sent her home. He's aware of the loss she had to suffer, but in this world, you're expected to move on at some point. Some point soon. The economy is not at all forgiving to those in pain.
"Can you sweep the floors in the back for me?" Elijah moved on, there was a job to do. "I'll start at the front."
"Yessir," Madeline answered, slipping her coat from her shoulders. Her fingers brushed over the wall surface, trying to find the switch. Click! Let there be light! If only she could use magic here, without getting potentially burned at the stake. And to call Accio for the sake of retrieving the broom, only to sweep the floor from dust and crumbs. Flying is out of the question anyway, brooms were never comfortable to sit on.
"It's cold today, right?" Elijah called from the front of the shop. "I thought I'd lose my nose on my way here."
"That'd be a shame, that's your best feature," Madeline responded with a grin. Gripping the broomstick and moving it back and forth, she tried to move all the dust bunnies into one corner. She'd collect it later, and throw it out of the front door into the sidewalk drain.
"If I didn't know any better, Madeline, I'd say you were flirting with me," Elijah chuckled. He knows he's not her type. She's not even his. He's not a fan of blondes, it happens that this one had a personality like no other blonde he's met.
"Is it working?"
"Nope."
"Darn it!" All in jest of course. That's one thing that was immediately clear in their 'relationship'. They joke about like this when nobody is looking. But as soon as the sign turns from 'closed' to 'open', there's no more time for childish banter.
---
"Thank you, come again," Madeline beamed. She just handed over a paper bag with chocolates and licorice. I just hope he won't eat them together, that's asking for a tummy ache. Business is quiet today. Elijah is in the back, making more cinnamon candy from scratch. She can hear the slapping of barely solid candy on the silicone table surface, repeatedly. Cinnamon isn't her favorite, she'd rather be chewing on something more citrus-y.
That said, nobody will miss one lemon jelly bean. Maybe skipping breakfast wasn't the greatest idea.
