Mahu Love. In hawaii, third gender persons are called Māhū, “In the Middle,” who traditionally were respected as teachers, especially of hula and chant. They often took the role of goddesses in hula, in temples that were forbidden to women. Māhū first the healing arts from Tahiti to Hawai'i. While many Māhū might be considered transgender today, here i painted two cisgender Māhū men sharing a romantic kiss (I will paint a trans Māhū soon).  It is available as a print in my Society6 shop.
