alright so let’s do this preliminary shit.
let’s talk about the TEW2 trailers so far.
1. a monster is seen dragging half of connelly’s corpse around in the gameplay trailer.
it’s a small picture but whatever, that’s the exact scene if you wanna go back and rewatch the trailer for yourself and get a more zoomed in look. don’t tell me there ain’t gonna be no joseph in this game if they re-rendered goddamn connelly for fuck’s sake. and speaking of joseph…
2. the gun that sebastian uses in TEW2 is a model M1911, aka joseph’s sidearm of choice in TEW1.
i don’t know if this has any real significance, but my love for these two sad men and their friendship makes me want to believe that sebastian’s carrying joseph’s gun around with him as a memento, because he likely still believes that joseph is dead. however, it may be significant considering the fact that this is an officer-grade model, and sebastian no longer sports a badge. i knew my gun nerdery would come in handy eventually
3. it’s not about what’s confirmed in the trailer, it’s about what’s implied.
bethesda has already told us that this version of STEM was built using lily’s mind as a core. but laura’s in there. how could laura be in there if ruvik is no longer at the center of things? well, we know from the first game already that ruvik inhabits every corner of STEM regardless of anything else. so, we may not have gotten a visual on ruvik in this trailer, but ruvik’s in this trailer – through laura.
and if ruvik’s in this trailer but not seen or addressed, that means there’s a big chunk of the game’s plot that’s missing from the trailer.
there’s a lot that these trailers don’t show us. we’re lacking visuals on ruvik, leslie, myra, and joseph. almost none of this game’s story or cast has been revealed to us yet. so try not to despair just yet if you haven’t seen your fave in stunning unreal engine 4 graphics. i’m sure everyone who made it through the first game alive will be present in the sequel in some fashion.
4. we can probably safely assume that all of the voicework in the trailers are placeholders.
for example, those are definitely anson mount’s effort/pain noises in the gameplay trailer, but they seem to be ripped directly from the first game. and then the spoken line of him saying lily’s name is a different guy.
with regards to kidman, there’s no actual way that her voiceover from the trailer is going to be in the game itself. it’s just preview narration to set the scene for the game’s reveal. they didn’t need to drag jennifer carpenter into the studio just for that – and it probably would have been ridiculously and needlessly expensive to do that, too.
voice acting is usually one of the final things done in a game, and it sounds like it wasn’t yet finished by the time this reveal was put together. we’re going to have to see direct gameplay footage (not just a trailer) before we can make any sort of determination on the final cast. don’t forget, the first few trailers for the first game had a bunch of placeholder actors in them, too. and they didn’t reveal the true cast to us until two months before launch.
