What is Zane and Echos relationship like in the soul eater au?

We kind of touched on that here and here - Zane honestly is in a bit of denial when it comes to Echo. Zane was always the “successful” almost “perfect” brother, whereas Echo was considered a failed experiment for a long time. Both brothers love their sibling, and would do anything for them, but they’re not identical personalities.

Echo tries not to resent Zane, but he does act defensively when it comes to his older brother. He refuses to let Zane do anything for him because he’s so desperate to prove his capability.

Zane is aware of the favoritism he’s been shown, but he doesn’t understand fully how that’s affected Echo. He thinks that if he ignores it and turns down blatant favoritism, it doesn’t exist. But he still tends to try and shelter and protect Echo - which irks Echo to no end.

So uh, more on Zane and Echo’s relationship?

@rinas-ninjas covered basically everything. They are estranged at the moment though thanks to Zane being off with Morro and Pixal on various missions. Now that Zane is at the academy though, he’s eager to reconnect with his brother. Echo meanwhile wants to distance himself from Zane. He doesn’t want to live in Zane’s shadow.

It doesn’t help that when they go on missions together Morro, Zane, and Pixal run the show. Morro does it because he doesn’t see Echo and Jay as a capable pairing, Zane does it because he doesn’t want to put Echo in danger, and Pixal goes alone with it because she thinks it’ll be faster.

Echo and Jay are never amused.

What's Zane and Echo's relationship like in the Soul Eater AU?

Zane isn’t mean to his brother; he’s just more of a “success” in the eyes of the world. He and Echo were meant to be artificial weapon souls who could resonate together - the perfect tag team. Unfortunately, Echo could neither transform nor resonate with Zane, and so he was considered a failure.

Zane loves his brother, but he can be a bit over protective. He isn’t used to the idea of Echo being able to protect himself - his partnership with Jay is a fairly recent development, one which Zane frequently forgets. On missions, Jay and Echo get very frustrated with Morro, Pixal, and Zane - the trio are all likely to take over a fight for one reason or another.

Echo loves Zane, but he does find himself frustrated with his brother’s shadow from time to time. Echo may be younger, but he is by no means defenseless - Jay’s weapon form is a formidable one despite its simple look.

In the writing. There is a part that you left it a cliffhanger. When cole and nya caught Lloyd trying to stell souls. What happened when they were shock to see the infeno sword. Can you continue that part ? Please 🙂

Looking at the recent drawing, I can say goodbye to my imagined idea of ​​Kai giving Garmadon a powerful and protective expression. And I didn't think Garmadon could become Lord Garmadon. We’re going to see more of Ray and Kai’s reintroduction, we just have to find the time to write it.

A question, or rather a curiosity, that you and Mel may have in mind. How would they think Lloyd and Kai's reaction would be when they tried a real meal for the first time in years? And especially with Lloyd, sure and I think this kid will get addicted to sweets the first moment he tries one, right?

Both boys, once they got over their initial distrust of the food in front of them (is this a trick? It could be poisoned - there’s so much of it, it looks too good to be true) would wolf it down like starving kids.

Which they kind of are.

Lloyd will eventually discover his love of sugar, and it turns out to be a great bribe - like offering treats to a formerly mistreated pet when they’re social.

Given the fact that Kai was raised basically a weapon, does that mean he only views himself, and by extent others, as tools? How do the others react to this?

He does, in fact, have that view of himself and other weapons - he’s totally baffled by their independence.

Ray and Maya, as well as most of the adults, can see what’s going on - he doesn’t think lowly of people personally, he really just does think that weapons are lesser.

The kids, however...well. Jay at first is pretty prickly, and he takes it a bit personally the first time Kai’s misguided beliefs get brought up. Once he realizes what’s going on, however, he’s just as sick about it as the adults. Zane actually ends up being a good person for Kai to relate to, since he literally was created to be a tool.

so i know this au is on a little pause, but i seriously love it! i watched soul eater a while ago, but i love the anime and ninjago both so this is really cool! cole and nya as maka and soul is really perfect :)

Thanks! Mel and I are both big Soul Eater and Ninjago fans, and there’s just too much angst to pass up here - we can’t wait to share more with ya’ll.

I noticed Garm had the tattoo on his back still in this AU! Does that have any story or facts you can share? I'm really curious!

Garmadon still has a shady past - he wasn’t always a WWMM professor, and he did some downright suspicious things in his youth.

Luckily, a combination of his own inner voice going “THIS IS NUTS ABORT MISSION” and getting back in touch with his family and friends lead to him leaving that life behind.

Unfortunately, that life didn’t want to let him go.

Sensei Garmadon reaction when Lloyd came to the academy plz :3

Blinking slowly, garm stares at the faded white ceiling above him. It wasn’t the same as the corridor he’d been in fighting Harumi, and as he feels around he notices he’s in a hospital bed.

As he sits himself up he realizes he’s covered in bandages and in a funny hospital gown. What really catches his eye though is the energy he senses to his right. He turns and sees his roommate is none other than his long lost son, Lloyd.

At the foot of his son’s bed was Ray’s missing child as well.

Garmadon nearly falls off his bed as he tries to reach for his son. After that failed attempt, he decides to attempt to stand, using the chair between the beds as support, eventually standing somewhat slanted next to his still sleeping child.

“Lloyd...” he whispers as he reaches his arm to touch his hair, before he can though, a golden sword nearly cuts it. 

Garmadon takes a step back and sees the sword Is coming out of Ray’s son’s arm.

“Stay away from him.” He grunts.

Garmadon’s eyes turn red with anger. And his whole body turns pitch black. Kai’s arm turns human again and he falls to his knees in fear as Garmadon reaches his own arm over to kai, and pokes him in the center of the chest.

“You stay away from my son. I can protect him now. He doesn’t need you.”

If you're still doing requests, maybe cute Steampunk or a happy thing with Zane and Echo? (Completely up to you. I think you might have mentioned it once, but I can't clearly remember if you're okay with Steampunk, so I wanted to give another option just in case.)

Steampunk is an adorable element of the Soul Eater AU!

This takes place a little later in the story:

“I…cannot believe…my brother saw that.”

Jay cackled in a way Echo usually found endearing but now just fueled his embarrassment. “Did you see his face?”

Echo sat on the couch, his head thrown back with his face in his hands. “I was too busy trying not to set my own on fire.”

Seeing Souls

Kai is curled up in the corner, his knees pulled to his face, his hands chained together in front of him with vengestone. He’s internally kicking himself for getting caught, but his hatred for Krux deepens as he wonders what he’s doing to Lloyd. His thoughts are answered when the man comes into the room, holding Lloyd in his arms.

Krux sets Lloyd down onto his cot gently, and comes over to Kai.

He yanks Kai’s arm forward and takes off the cuffs. Kai rubs his wrists as he feels the fire returning to him. Before he can even try to attack Krux, the man is gone, and the door slams shut.

Kai’s attention turns to Lloyd.

Kai lights a small fire in the palm of his hand in order to see as the room is nearly pitch black.

Kai: Lloyd! Lloyd are you okay?

The young Garmadon cracks his eyes open, before turning away from Kai.

Lloyd: Leave me alone.

Kai frowns but is not deterred. He grabs Lloyd’s arm, causing Lloyd to struggle.

Kai: come on I just want to see-

Lloyd: STOP!

Lloyd’s eyes are burning red and green energy flows from his fingertips, cutting Kai over the eyebrow. Kai grabs at his eye, causing his fire to go out. Lloyd, once he realizes what he did, and can’t see Kai, starts to cry.

Kai, with one eye open, uses his right hand to light a new flame to get a look at Lloyd, and wraps his left arm over lloyd’s shoulder. Bringing the two closer and stopping Lloyd’s sobbing, but the tears are still flowing.

Kai looks down at him.

Kai: can you see souls?

Lloyd sniffles.

Lloyd: what?

Kai: it’s something my mom and sister do. If they focus really hard on someone they can see what their soul looks like.

Lloyd: what’s a soul?

Kai is dumbfounded.

Kai: you don’t know what a soul is?

Lloyd looks away sheepishly.

Lloyd: do you?

Kai: well it’s um... it’s you. I think that’s how my mom said it. It shows how strong you are.

Lloyd: oh...

Kai: I guess you can’t see them then huh?

Lloyd blinks a couple of times, but decides to focus on Kai’s display of power, his fire. he tries to touch it.

Kai: woah wait-

Lloyd places his hand in Kai’s fire. Kai moves his hand away immediately but when he gets a better look at Lloyd’s hand, along with the rest of his wounds. Bandaids all over his neck and wrists, bandages wrapped around his leg where the snakes had cut him, but his hands, his hands were both blistered from when Kai transformed and Lloyd tried to use him. There were no burn marks from Lloyd’s recent stunt.

Kai: how...

Lloyd’s eyes are still closed. When he opens them the world is a black void, but he sees a red angry looking blob right in front of him, but it calms down once it looks at Lloyd more. It moves forward, seemingly swallowing Lloyd whole.

When Lloyd blinks, he sees that Kai is now hugging him.

“I’ll protect you. I promise.”
