From Russia: With Love... Part 2 Begins!

I posted Chapter 7, the beginning of part 2 today. U have not finished the second part, so I don’t know how many chapter it will end up being like I did with part 1. It  has a lot more meat and moves at a slightly slower pace than part 1, so I’m going to peg it taking somewhere to Chapter 20 to finish completely.

I have questions about formal speech. Do you think Yurio would use привет/пока with strangers/people he is supposed to respect? Or do you think he would still use the formal hello/goodbye without thinking? I know teenagers who can be very informal at times so I wonder what your opinion is. What is typically used with coaches when both coach and student speak Russian? Would Victor use formal speech with Yakov because he is older or does Victor feel more like family with Yakov?

IRL teenagers can’t be informal with adults if it’s not their parents or close relatives. Even if they disrespect them or are angry at them. They might be informal when they want to… start a fight an older stranger or are having a huge tantrum xD

There are two kinds of ‘you’ in Ru - the friendly one ‘ty’ (between friends and peers). And the formal one - ‘vy’ (between strangers and to address older people). You use привет/пока (privet/poka) with those who you use the ‘ty’ pronoun with. And you use здравствуйте/до свидания (zdravstvuyte/do svidaniya) if you adress somebody using ‘vy’. With coaches and teachers, especially older coaches, it’s always ‘vy’ (and vy-related language like formal greetings) for all of their students/athletes, and it would be like that for both Victor, Yurio and any other skater under Yakov, thus there would be other elements of formal speech xD It would just sound extremely strange for them to use privet/poka with Yakov IRL. If they want to show disrespect, they’d do it some other way, using maybe a different intonation or slang, but not switching from vy-language to ty-language. E.g. Plushenko and Alexey Mishin. They’re a lot like family (Plushenko calls him his ‘second father’), but that doesn’t change the fact that even after all the years he calls his coach by name+patronymic, using ‘vy’. It’s already strange enough that Yakov’s skaters don’t use the patronymic (but I understand it’s an anime and all that xDDD), but using privet/poka with him would have been too much (even for Victor) xD

Drarry Writers Class Of 2018!

A couple weeks ago I posted here and on the Drarry Discord that I wanted to put together a list of Drarry authors who posted their first fic in 2018. I asked writers to send me the favorite Drarry fic they wrote and the date they first started posting fic.

I started writing Drarry fic in 2018, and I am still amazed by how much my fandom experience changed for the better over the span of a year. I made brilliant new friends, some of whom I talk to daily; I met some of my favorite authors; I became part of a wonderful, supportive community, a large part of which was made up of new writers like me. Throughout the year, I kept thinking about what made 2018 so special for me. Why and when we start writing fic remains a bit of a mystery, but I felt a strange kinship with people who decided to put their writing out there at about the same time as I did. Kind of like a class that’s about to graduate as the year ends and another one begins.

I thought it would be nice to list as many new authors as were willing to take part in this informal Class of 2018 - and then to share it as a way to appreciate and raise awareness for newer (but nonetheless fabulous!) Drarry writers.

I received a lot of submissions, but also a lot of support from writers and readers in the Drarry fandom who were excited to find new authors to read. I’m so happy that this idea resonated with so many people, and I’m  delighted to share the Class of 2018 yearbook with you!

Hey you know me as definitely-not-a-fan but I made a hp blog.. just wanted to say hi 👋🏻 Also if you have the time, could you maybe rec me some good (and nice) hope blogs? But only if it’s not too much trouble! Hope you have a lovely evening/day/whatever time it is when you read this :)

Hiiiiii! How exciting, welcome welcome!!! I mean, I know you don’t need a welcome but just specifically welcoming your new HP blog to the fandom :D

Okay, I’m going to be honest and say that doing blog recs - particularly for a fandom as huge as HP with so many differing POVs on everything from certain characters, to JKR, to Fantastic Beasts and Cursed Child, can be a little difficult, not least because I follow a lot of people with differing opinions and I know that approach isn’t for everyone. I also get anxieties about missing people out. I did start trying to write out a list of some of my favourite blogs to follow but it would have been ten feet long and felt like a sure fire way to lose friends (because I’d end up missing out someone I chat with every day or something by accident) so I’m going to scrap that and take a different approach. 

I’m actually pretty new to tumblr - relatively speaking - even though I’ve been in HP for ages, so I’m just going to tell you how I’ve gone about working out which blogs I want to follow, with a focus on H/D content (HD Rec Blogs and HD Fest Blogs). I also follow loads of Snape and Snarry blogs, HP meta blogs, all the femslash blogs I can get my hands on, lots of Marauder stuff, Wolfstar and Prongsfoot in particular, and a bunch of other things, but I’m assuming from the Draco focus to your blog you’re going to be primarily interested in HD but ping me if that’s not the case and I’ll give you other suggestions. 

Friends, please feel free to add to this if you have specific shout out lists or think I’ve missed stuff, particularly if there’s a handy reclist of Drarry Artists anywhere - @gracie137blogs did you start an excel for tumblr artists and alternative contacts when Tumblr started being annoying?

Of course, I had to visit the places that were featured in the anime. It was delightful and nostalgic walking around Karatsu.

- Karatsu Station is Hasetsu Station.

- The shopping arcade is where Yurio got his tiger print shirt

- The road where Yuri jogs

- Karatsu Castle is Hasetsu Castle - where Yuri also exercises and where he spends some time with Viktor
