The proof has arrived for my and Troy Minkowsky’s (he wrote I drew) “Golden Age” comic, “Hooves of Death,” starring the public domain Nedor hero The Ghost, with cameo appearances by George Grosz and Pablo Picasso. It will make its world premiere at MoCCA Fest in a couple of weeks!
Portraits of Shirley Jackson by Maggie Umber, Rob Kirby, & Colleen Frakes. Much more Shirley to come this fall in THE SHIRLEY JACKSON PROJECT: COMICS INSPIRED BY HER LIFE AND WORK (Ninth Art Press)! Edited by Rob Kirby.
Three first panel from page 9 of Hooves of Death. I drew this three times. I’m getting into a pattern of allowing myself one re-drawn panel per page. Maybe the top shouldn’t “count,” because I just abandoned the entire pass at the page, for reasons not particularly to do with this panel. So I never really finished inking it. The middle version comes from (what I thought was) the finished page, but I felt I had overdone the shading, and wasn’t satisfied with the figures either. The bottom version, I can live with!
Sketches from Golden Age comics & studies for Hooves of Death, a comic I’m drawing from a script by Troy Minkowsky.
