Four Tasks to Include in Your Fall Landscaping Plan
Seasonal changes provide an opportunity to update your landscaping. Here are four tasks to include in your fall landscaping plan that will keep everything looking fresh and neat. Your outdoor areas can look fantastic throughout the four seasons of theyear.
1. Fall Maintenance
You probably won't be needing to mow the lawn as frequently now that summer is over. However, you still want it to look clean and free of debris. Pay attention to your weeding and make sure the yard gets enough water. It's not winter yet, so there's no excuse for a dull, brittle and dry landscape. It can still have a green and lush appearance for another month or two.
2. Fall Flowers
This is the season for chrysanthemums and other lively plants that can withstand the cooler temperatures. Place pots of colorful mums along patios, balconies and steps. This will give you something bright to look at.You can also display eye-catching hanging plants on your porch.
3. Pay Attention to Frost
If there's going to be a dramatic drop in temperatures, cover up your plants and your flowers overnight. A deep frost can kill those sensitive plants, even those that perform well in autumn. If it looks like an autumn night is going to feel like winter, place a light blanket over your outside plants and bring anything in a pot indoors. This will prolong the life of your plants.
4. Trim Back What You Can
It's not unusual to still have roses blooming and other flowers showing themselves in the fall. Don't leave them out there to freeze and wither. Clip roses and other flowers and bring them indoors. Place them in vases around your home while your outdoor landscaping prepares itself for yet another change in the seasons.
