@no-brain-only-brainrot
My problem is that I want to write, except when I'm writing I'm not reading, but when I'm reading I'm not painting, but when I'm painting I'm not crafting, but if I'm crafting I'm not meal prepping, but if I'm meal prepping I'm not exercising, but if I'm exercising I'm not cleaning the house, but if I'm cleaning then I'm not writing, and then the day ends and it was just ten hours of youtube while I tried to Decide.
Okay so none of this is blatantly stated but implicated in the movie, but when Grace mentioned something about the weather in his dome, Rocky said he’d contact Adrian and ask them to adjust that.
So it’s clear that Adrian is part of the teams working to keep Grace alive.
But. What if Adrian is on this team because he was already a part of a bigger team working on domes across the planet to protect the live that Erid has with their dimming star making the world colder.
What if Grace wasn’t some special one-time dome user and there are so many towns and nature preserves locked away in these controlled domes to keep the contents safe and cared for.
Rocky saves the stars. Adrian saves Erid. Grace saves the stars and Rocky, Rocky saves Grace and brings him home, Adrian keeps their partner and pet alien safe and happy and cared for in the same way he’s been caring for their planet for over four hundred Eridian years now.
Adrian saves the world too, I think.
Having a good time :)
this is going to sound like such a little sibling ass take but i genuinely believe that being a little bit annoying is actually a greater sign of maturity and self awareness than being universally likeable and on good terms with everyone
if some people find me annoying and can't stand me because of how i think and act then that means i'm a fully realized human being with my own personality and opinions and free will and not just a reflective surface for other people's desires, which is in fact a good thing despite what people who want you to just be a reflection of their own opinions and desires will tell you, and why being considered "cringe" or whatever doesn't bother me at all
also it's really funny when you're confident enough in yourself to know that people not liking you isn't always a sign that you're the problem. like there's something undeniably hilarious about being aware your mere existence has the power to piss someone off and ruin their day and i recommend embracing it.
Oh fucking thissss
I'm still thinking about the guy who saw me realize my wheelchair wouldn't fit in the elevator because he (also a wheelchair user) was already inside it and immediately quipped, "This elevator ain't accessible enough for the both of us."
Submitter comment: I'd like to submit this '[s]tudy of defensive behavior of a venomous snake as a new approach to understand snakebite' not for it's topic (worth studying!) but for it's insane methodology, which... well, I'll just let the researcher speak for himself:
[Q: Why did you decide to do this experiment?
A: Snake behavior has been generally neglected as a field of research, especially in Brazil. And most studies don’t examine what factors make them want to bite. If you study malaria, you can research the parasite that causes the disease—but if you don’t study the mosquito that carries it, you will never solve the problem. Up until now, the popular wisdom was that the jararaca would only attack if you touched it or stepped on it. But that was not what we found.
Q: Why did you need to be the victim?
A: The best way to do this research is to put snakes and a human together. In this case, the human was me. We put the snakes inside a ring on the floor of our lab until they got used to it, then I stepped in wearing special protective boots. I stepped close to the snake and also lightly on top of it. I didn’t put my whole weight on my foot, so I did not hurt the snakes. I tested 116 animals and stepped 30 times on every animal, totaling 40,480 steps.]
From the recent (aptly named) interview: Researcher steps on deadly vipers 40,000 times to better predict snakebites
I just want y'all to know I check my tumblr in the morning and someone's discussing ecology restoration and someone is posting photos of medieval manuscripts and someone is gushing about a blorbo I've never heard of but it clearly just makes them so happy and someone has tagged me in a quiz and someone is speculating about an aspect of Middle-Earth or Greek mythology that I honestly have never considered and maybe making art about it and everyone is making their little corner of existence better and more loving in some way and I just love y'all so much
Remember "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" ? I feel like there's been a distancing from the "reduce" and "reuse" part and a favoritism towards "recycle" by corporate American.
Capitalism can still thrive with recycling in the mix. You buy Plastic Thing 1, throw it away after one use, and they take that and recycle it into Plastic Thing 2 and sell it back to you. All while continuing to harm the environment.
Reusing puts a damper on things. They can't sell you Plastic Thing 2 when you're still using Plastic Thing 1. Plastic forks, for example- there is literally no reason why you can't reuse plastic forks more than once (aside from maybe microplastics, but it's too late for that)
Reducing is the one everyone wants to ignore. Just don't buy Plastic Thing 1. You don't need Plastic Thing 1. Pick up a set of metal forks and use those for years. Convenience is killing the planet
the slogan is in that order for a reason! It is listed in order of effectiveness and impact; if you can't reduce, reuse. If you can't reuse, recycle.
Refuse what you don’t need
Reduce what you can
Reuse everything still in working order
Recirculate what you don’t need by sharing or selling onward
Refurbish what’s fallen out of good condition so it lasts longer
Repair what’s broken altogether
Repurpose what can’t serve its original function
Recycle what is unsuitable for repurposing
What goes unsaid here is why they’re all “re-“ prefixed: it’s about circularity. Keeping the resources in use means that we don’t have to keep incurring the environmental costs of production over and over on infinite one-way trips of new stuff starting in the earth, through human society, and right back into the earth in landfill.

my English prof teaching abt cover letters today and me trying not to bring up the luke skywalker cover letter post:
@serialreblogger here you go:
To add on some additional useful advice from everybody’s other favorite OT X-Wing jockey: The Wedge Antilles Four-Step Speech.
One: remind the audience who you are, in case they forgot.
“People of Adumar, I am Wedge Antilles and it is my pleasure to meet you at last.”
Two: remind them why you’re both there.
“And as a representative of the New Republic, I’m pleased to be present at this historic meeting of our great peoples.”
Three: say something personal, to prove that you’ve been paying attention and care about your listeners.
“I must admit, I find this display very heartwarming. It’s possibly the best greeting I’ve ever received. I’ll have to find out if I can replicate it on the walls of my quarters back home.”
Four: finish the speech while everybody is still happy about Step Three and before you can make a fool of yourself.
“I expect to have more to say when I’m settled in, but for now, thank you for the warm welcome.”
Aaron Allston presented this in Starfighters of Adumar, an absolutely hilarious (and largely stand-alone) novel about Wedge and three of his closest friends getting sent to a planet that was a little too enthusiastic about snubfighter pilots, and which I highly recommend you read whether you know anything about Legends canon or not; you really don’t need to, it’s just four idiots in X-Wings running around getting up to delightful hijinks. 10/10 good times.
Anyway, I haven’t actually been in a situation where I’ve needed to use this myself yet…but I did recommend it to a friend of mine when her sister was getting married, and she had to get up and give a speech that she hadn’t realized was coming in time to prepare for properly and that she was freaking-out. This immediately calmed her nerves, yes; but the best part was that both sisters were enormous Wedge Antilles fans, so the bride recognized the speech around about point two and spent the whole thing dying, torn between laughter and tears, while the rest of those in attendance had no idea why she was losing her shit like this over such a seemingly simple speech.
Nobody else was particularly impressed because it was very short-and-sweet rather than being some big emotional gesture of a speech, but it got the point across and did its job and kept the sister of the bride from stuttering and stammering her way through a last-minute disaster of a speech instead…and it was a very touching emotional thing between the two of them, and the best speech of the whole night from the bride’s perspective.
For years, sci-fi has asked, what if aliens were wetter than us. Project Hail Mary posits a new, daring question. What if we are the wet aliens
I think it'd be fun if all the cat quest fans made a Dragonblood oc that we can say fought in the dragon war and pretended it was canon
affirmations:
- it’s fun to be awake & in an upright position
- consciousness is a gift
- i CAN do this anymore
a week into artfight i would like to give out the following reminders: it is okay if you thought you were going to participate but ended up not having time. it is fine if you started out enthused and then lost steam. you do not owe anyone revenges. you are not 'behind' and you are not letting anybody down. it is a silly little game for fun. do not forget this.
Posting this gif twice because I finally figured out how to make GIFs properly and it makes me laugh
shit I missed my window, next week I guess
