there’s never any time for silence in new york city, but before six am comes close to it. he jogs early and he jogs with prizrak, his paws still a little stumbling but getting there. he had shot up another ten pounds, now at six months old, and he was eager to run. 

but he begins to pull on the leash at one point and roman looks to the side to see another dog, alone, watching them. he slows and turns. no owner was bad in the city, and no owner meant the dog could get thrown into any pound. 

         “hey – hey buddy. come here.”

he’s starting to like the new place.  it’s crowded, but big and  there’s plenty of opportunities for food.  the vendors rarely notice  the malinois snagging a hot dog or whatever else is on their cart.  only escaping the airport had been difficult, abandoning the vest  in some bushes had allowed him freedom.  the young dog caught his attention quickly from his hiding spot  near a park.  it couldn’t have been older than a pup and max  couldn’t place the breed.  he did recognize the human’s words though.  buddy.  come here.  they were well enough ingrained that he stepped forward.
