I don’t look like a ghost.. do I?
Hannibal (2013-2015)
One of the easiest ways to understand the fact that Will was always a killer-in-waiting is to look at some of the most well-known themes of the show. What does Will love most about Hannibal? The fact that Hannibal saw, understood & never judged him, no matter how deadly & dangerous he was, no matter how wicked his thoughts were.
If Will didn’t actually feel all the things that Hannibal called him out for feeling or want the things that Hannibal pointed out he wanted, then Hannibal wouldn’t have been the only person to truly understand him, since he’d have been wrong in his assessments of Will. But he wasn’t wrong, which is why it meant so much to Will that Hannibal could see all of that in him but didn’t turn away or judge him.
One of the big things that upset Will when he learned the truth about Hannibal was the fact that he was faced with one of the main reasons they understood each other so well: they were both violent, dangerous people. Hannibal understood him because he’s felt those same things & had those same urges, and he’s a vicious killer. Ergo, SO IS WILL! That’s a big part of what led to Will lashing out hard at Hannibal, but never actually hating him or wanting him dead.
Will tied his own inner monster up so tightly with Hannibal’s so that he could give his conscious mind distance from that part of himself. By lashing out at Hannibal, he could lash out at himself. It’s where the whole “needing to kill Hannibal so he doesn’t become him” foolishness originated. Since those two things were so inextricably linked in Will’s mind, he’d convinced himself he could kill it if he killed Hannibal. (Chiyoh was so real for calling him out about that, btw.)
It’s also really ironic that Hannibal’s foolish, fucked up experiments with Will in S1 to speedrun his transformation actually ended up delaying it. Will suddenly had another shield to hide behind to tell himself “It’s not me, it’s Hannibal. If I kill Hannibal, I can kill that part of myself.” Poetic irony at its finest! I could do another whole post just about this.
But back to the point at hand, if Hannibal hadn’t been correct when he called out all the violent & dangerous things he saw inside of Will, he certainly wouldn’t have considered Hannibal the only person who truly understood him. He’d have been creeped out & wouldn’t have had any trouble at all either killing him “in the name of justice” or getting him arrested.
It was very deliberate that Will’s conflict about accepting Hannibal was intertwined with his conflict about accepting himself. He couldn’t do one without the other. It would’ve been a lot easier for Will to just accept that he’d fallen in love with a murderer & didn’t want to let him go. But Hannibal’s monster is so similar to his own that he couldn’t possibly only accept Hannibal for who he was. Accepting Hannibal was the same thing as accepting himself, which is why he fought so hard against it for so long.
OP, you hit the nail on the head, and it’s one of my favorite story details in the show. By giving in to his love for Hannibal, Will would be accepting Hannibal’s darkness and would’ve had to confront and accept his own as the reason for doing so. By giving in to his love for Will, Hannibal would be accepting Will’s vulnerability and humanity and the fact that he can’t control everything, that he isn’t an invulnerable monument. These were both things they had buried and hated about themselves their whole lives and had built their lifestyles around to wall them off. You can’t love someone for the same things you hate about yourself, some transference is bound to happen. Part of the reason they never just killed each other as they could’ve was because deep down, those parts of themselves were desperate to come up for air. They needed to confront them to live freely, and they were each other’s key to that. True love should force you to not only examine yourself, but admire yourself, warts and all, through the mirror of your beloved. It should make you feel free, feel more alive beside that person. It’s just as Will envisioned Hannibal saying in his dream in S2Ep9— “No one can be fully aware of another human being unless we love them. By that love, we see potential in our beloved. Through that love, we allow our beloved to see their potential. Expressing that love, our beloved’s potential comes true.”Hannibal’s humanity and Will’s monstrosity were both seen, expressed, accepted and realized in the end thanks to their love for each other.

As a way to practice anatomy and learn more fluidity, I decided to strike up a series of these to help not only myself, but also anyone that might have need of them! Though this is the small version of the set, the high res is offered over at my Patreon. If anyone is interested in helping out a fellow artist, please don’t hesitate, as I will be offering tutorials, poses, NSFW illustrations, and more over there! www. patreon.com / Keiivory Artwork by Kei-Ivory
I’ve always been an avid admirer of art for about as long as I’ve been able to hold a pencil just as many before me have. With each new generation new artistic techniques are introduced and created. From Oil Paintings, to Acrylic, Colored Pencils, to Digital, no matter your canvas the premise stays the same as they all require one thing in common from each of us to work. Imagination. Without it art couldn’t possibly exist. Back in Ancient Japan, Calligraphers and illustrators were highly regarded as skilled artisans. Spending hours upon hours dedicated to their beautiful calligraphy and personal style. Nowadays, many believe such traditional arts to have taken a back seat due to the existence of Digital Art and Graphics Design but I’m here to say that that’s not the case. The only thing that has changed is the paper and brush with which you draw with. Which is why I decided to bring the two together in this one piece. As you may have noticed, the artist is holding their stylus pen in a very traditional manner akin to that of a calligrapher. The ink spilling out of it represents the ancient craft still somehow existing but under a new medium. Spilling from the tablet onto it’s original medium. Plain ordinary paper. The lanterns hanging from the Sapporo can to the stylus is imagination. By being an artist. You bring a piece of your imagination into the real world. While the Mount Fuji in the back made of crumpled pieces of paper with the rising sun in the form of a ball of yarn represents the ability to see the possibilities and creativity in everything even when it’s not there. Artists evolve with the times, but throughout all eras. Imagination stays the same.
Good luck to all the other entrants~

When these little bastards jumped into my life, I was just blown away by how much they clicked~ It’s been so long since I finished a picture of mine and Lurockia’s kids and it feels wonderful to finally have this finished. Everything has been pretty hectic in my life for the past several months but hopefully it’ll settle down soon. These two have seriously made me happy in finally getting inspiration to finish an artwork. I can’t wait to make more. Artwork by Kei-Ivory Ezra belongs to Kei-Ivory Adam belongs to Lurockia
I started this picture a while back and due to, a hell of a lot of reasons, I had to set it aside for a bit. I finally picked it up again a few days ago and here we are~ I’ve been playing these games since the beginning and working on this one was a blast. I incorporated all the themes that were the most important to me into this; Adventure, love, and the feeling of home, and of course, I had to work with the Art Nouveau style as it is what gives me the absolute most inspiration.
If you haven’t played these games from the beginning, are you even living, really?? Come on, guys–

And finally, here is the next Yuna piece that I’ve been playing with the last few weeks. Had a hard time finishing it given what happened in my personal life but I’m just happy to get it out. I’m not sure who’s next but I’ll keep this going with the other Final Fantasy Ladies! Here I used the temples symbols from Final Fantasy X to portray where her heart was in the first game, as well as adding themes from Tidus to bring the piece together and show her tranquility with him while still focusing solely on her journey to defeat Sin. Enjoy! Artwork by Kei-Ivory Yuna and Final Fantasy belongs to Square-Enix
finally have felt the passion and need to draw again and I am so, so proud of how this turned out. I know it isn’t perfect but the fact that I was ecstatic to work on this brought actual joy to my heart. Art Nouveau is a serious passion of mine ever since my dear friend Lurockia introduced it to me years ago and now I can’t believe how it’s brought inspiration into my life again when I have been at my absolute lowest. I’m hoping to spin out a Ladies of Final Fantasy Series in this style but for now, please enjoy Lady Yuna from FFX-2 <3 Artwork by Kei-Ivory Yuna and Final Fantasy belongs to Square-Enix
This is actually pretty darn old as I started it months ago and have been struggling to finish it in that time… I’m still not happy with it but I wanted to finally post it and get it out of my personal art queue! I just adore Final Fantasy VIII and I hope to get one of these done for each Final Fantasy game It’s wonderful to be able to work on these for personal enjoyment, as the Final Fantasy series had given me a love for magic and gifted me with stories that keep me going even in my darkest times. Artwork by Kei-Ivory Characters and Final Fantasy VIII belong to Square-Enix!
So I had originally done this weeks ago for a contest entry but as you can see, this is actually a depiction of my OC Lotus but as a mermaid! It was so fun to work on and even with how much I’ve been struggling, it was totally worth it to finish this if only for a bit of personal art! Artwork by Kei-Ivory Lotus belongs to Kei-Ivory
