its been a while but my old scc / fun gang rant / reading / analyze post has been on my mind lately. so im revisiting it but typed slightly nicer + a little added(mostly on capn this is secretly a capn rant)
if you have never seen previously mentioned post, the specific reading of them and their characters revolves around the fact they are the exact opposite of the fun gang(for these porpoises were counting this as kris/susie/ralsei only)

recap, the tldr of my other post is that all 6 of them are assigned a "main trait" in some way
sweet is energetic : kris is quiet
cap'n is smooth : ralsei is fluffy
k_k is silly : susie is mean
while whether these are 100% accurate to the fun gangs characters is debateable, these are the descriptors i found were used most often(i cant remember if thsi is still true as of 3/4 so take it with a grain of salt.) main point here is theyre OPPOSITES!!! which applies to more than just this but thsi is the easiest to lay out
a big part of sccs bit is that they try to force themselves into a heroic role. they Want to be heroes, and view the fun gang as villains based off a misunderstanding. this is also a big part of them in genwral, most notably with the rebellion. meanwhile, the fun gang are forced into their heroic role. i dont think i have to elaborate on this
yada yadaaa.... u get it. theres more i could connect but i sorta forgot. whoooops! this is like, foundation stuff. the point of repeating all this is to set up that assuming they are the opposite of the fun gang allows us to assume a lot about their personalities, within reason
most notably, and what im touching on here, the sweet capn cakes are EXTREMELY selfish. im talking about this cuz i think its a really interesting and overlooked part of their characters
we all know aboat the musical rebellion. sweet capn n k_k dislike queen because shes stopping them from making music.........and only because of that. sweet outright says she didnt use to be That bad, k_k says theyre "just rebels, [they] don't wanna get in trouble!" when asked to actually do somefin against queen, and they never once acknowledge the werewires, which are like. An actually bad thing queen is doing. this is commonly interpreted as "theyre just bad rebels!" but... theyre clearly not stupid. or at least stupid enough to realize bad things arent happening. the whole reason they fight you in the first place is because capn sees you near queen when noelle is kidnapped, and assumes the worst. id also like to add that there ARE werewires in this scene, and then you see sweet for the first time right after.
so i thinknits a bit generous to assume they just "don't know"! theres also capns whole deal but ill get to him later. all theyre ever shown to care much about ingame is themselves(as a group), which i dont think is out of MALICE but i think its still overlooked. this is even a thing during the very end where they make the thrash machine!!! theyre paid to make the thrash machine. its a job they do.
(this is also a personal thing but ive always read capn trying to back off, telling sweet there'll be other bad guys, as suggesting the rebellion and fighting are all sweets ideas. sweet is the one who wants this, and to be seen as Cool and Heroic. capn is in on it because its profitable)
Now to finally address the capn in the room. stuffing this in here becaude it's....semi related, i want an excuse to talk aboat him because i dont often see people Get him.
capn is a piece of shit scammer before anyrhing else. this is established in almost all instances of dialogue with him. hes always trying to get cash, or get ahead, or gain Somehow, usually with giving very little in return or being extremely sleazy in general. he tries selling bagels for $400, he tries getting on queens good side, hes always thw one to say youre too poor for somefin. hes very money, power motivated. I THINK this is why he acts like a "player", especially when you consider the ralsei thing from earlier. i think its pretty unlikely capns player/scammer things are seperate, and its much more likely that he just wants to benefit. because thats his thing. hes a selfish asshole. by acting like a player, by flirting, by being Romantic, he believes hes more appealing and people will buy things. or in the case of queen, it seems more likely he's just trying to suck up to her because she's powerful. IDONT KNOW idont know maybe im crazy. hes never read like hes...actually interested in any of the women he flirts with. he doesnt talk like he is.
i dont know how im going to end this. i just wanted to word vomit again. i really miss the sweet capn cakes. goodbye.
i had an art assignment from art class where i did pop-art inspired stuff so i genuinely started geeking tf out and did this over the course of a week [i think..]
finally redesigned sol!! it was pretty fun adding on things but also a bit of a hassle trying to figure out the color values, i ended up darkening the red to help a bit. i also ripped off his wings and gave him a shrimp tail instead of a bee stinger you're welcome guys!!
