My Boy, oh how I love you so. My sweet boy
- a new father
Our boy, so brave and heroic. Fragile yet strong, has landed on this big blue ball.
You have all these expectations as to who your children could be and what they’ll look and sound like and then, BOOM they get here and non of it matters, because who ever shows up is far more beautiful than anyone you could have conjured up. I feel like I’m watching myself start all over from scratch, with far greater strength and patience.
You think you know love, and perhaps you do, but nothing and I mean nothing I’ve experienced can prepare me for the love that constantly traffics my body since my son came. From the moment he was born and took my finger in his hand, I knew there would be no barrier I wouldn’t cross, battle I wouldn’t fight, and knowledge I would not gain to be his greatest ally.
I love you my son
Three years have passed since my father died, i miss him.
And yet there is no longer a depraved sadness that lingers at the thought of his passing. He lived a life to which he loved and found love. He inspired in silence, guided in practice and supported in secret.
My Father was not a long winded man… at least not with me. He loved me in ways i could not understand in life but have spent the better half of my sleepless nights anslyzing. He scrutinized me in my early years and softened as i grew. I resented him for it in the beginning unaware that he had never done “all of this before”. Before me he was just a man, i made him a father, and my siblings made him a Dad.
I'm grateful for the man i knew and still shaken by his passing, I just hope he can watch me become a father myself with proud eyes and a peaceful mind.
To both my father and my son, you are both loved dearly but to my son, i hope you don't give me as hard of a time as i gave my own Dad…not without better end results. Good luck my boy.
I’ve smoked more weed than I needed to.. I always smoke when I need direction. Honestly I quit my job because I was tired of being tired. Realizing that death would likely come for me in the dead of a cool winter night as I’m nestled against my love while it takes me with a shallow breath and eases me out of my fulfilling existence.
My story is not filled with uncertainty or a whimsical imbalance of good and evil. I am my own villain and hero. To be a master of ones own, only to think “perhaps I might enjoy the surprises of an indeterminate lifestyle”
I am not an artist, I am not a creator, I am no longer a thinker, or doer, or believer, I just am.. and I’m afraid what I am is no longer who I want to be.
In short, depression has found me on the eve of summer, so I’ll drink like one of those writers would.
My dad used to take me to these Nigerian restaurants when I was like 15 and I’d always be amazed because I had never seen one in Dallas at the time. I thought the only place to get our traditional food was in my mom’s kitchen. It was crazy to see our culture being mixed and shared in the American dream. I’m sure there were places around me but at that age the world was only as big as the places my feet could take me.
I had a dream that made me feel like I was happier before I met you, I know it was a dream because it wasn’t true. The little things we regret in our past. The cannon events that seem to shape us, our hearts would convince us we are worse for moving on and not dwelling on it. This is a lie. A attempt to create turmoil in the soul.
I bought my first house alone at 27.
