some doodles and studies
On a random note, I tried the Ahmed's 100 clouds challenge but decided to focus on something else instead so I painted only these ones so far. Might came back to it later.
A little recap
Lately (and by lately I mean these past two-three years) I've been feeling majorly demotivated, lost and overwhelmed. One could say that I'm burnt out. Or that I'm going through an art block. Truth is that I have so many ideas and love for art that I didn't really feel art-blocked, and I've been doodling everyday diligently, but when I sat down to do more complete and complex illustrations I would just ...blank out. Maybe it is an art block after all. Anyways, I thought that my problem was my lack of technical skills so I enrolled in a couple of art courses (both digital and traditional) and spent 2024 studying and refining my skills. Tbh I'm not sure they helped but they gave me a purpose to pick up a pencil or a brush and commit myself. And I realised what was missing: the commitment! I needed to commit myself to a project (whether a class or a personal one) or I just wander in the dark. I still don't think my technical skills are anything special, I struggle a lot with a lot of stuff, but the only way to improve is to set the bar higher and try to reach it. And if I suck and make horrible stuff, well, nobody has to see it. So I decided to commit to a personal project and work on some OCs and some story of mine, creating the characters and the setting etc. I'm still on the early phases (sketching some ideas, jutting down notes, gathering references) but at least I'm not mindlessly doodling my time away.
Some early ideas for one of the charas. Won't stay this way probably. Almost certainly.
ARTIST LIFE
I recently got the 8BitDo Micro mini pad thingy and I set it up to work with CSP on the main computer (since I can never, for the life of me, use the keyboard for shortcuts) and it's so small and cute and easy to get used to, I should have bought it years ago LOL
RECENT INSPIRATION
I know I'm very!! very!! late to the party but I started watching Outlander this past month and I'm loving it!! I don't know how this passed me over completely and never watched it before. I'm only at the second season but the relationship between the main charas Jamie and Claire inspired the dynamic I want for my OCs (I mean...who wouldn't want that??They're great for each other and their love is awesome). What prompted me to watch Outlander is a fan fiction called 'Even in another time' by https://irregularcollapse.tumblr.com/ It's a Captive Prince fanfic, probably my favourite ever, if you like the fandom please give yourself a present and go read it!!
An artist I go back periodically for inspiration is https://demian.art/ I love in particularly how sensual their art is with little effort, the ink lines are amazing. And beautiful boys too!!
I wanna use this blog like, well, a blog so I'll be writing more as I progress. I wanna have a space where to share how I go along this artist journey but also ideas and thoughts, in a somewhat newsletter format (I love the artists newsletters I'm subscribed to so I wanna do something similar, for me, to record my experience in one place ;D)
Until next time, take care and happy arting.
Autumn passed me by so quickly I hardly noticed. I missed the vibe..
More rocks for the gouache course! Tried to combine all the lessons so far and come up with something that resembles a thing (and not just washes and gradients ahaha).
The gouache course continues and this is another lesson. Smooth gradients are surprisingly hard to achieve š
On a random note, Iām taking Justin Donaldsonās gouache course and painting a lot of rocks so far. Rocks are super fun but surprisingly hard!! I realized that, despite having used gouache a number of years now, I didnāt know shit!!
Half the year doodles recap. I just doodle or doing studies lately, kinda hard getting my groove...
Long time no arting lol I had a huge art block lost year and the only thing I could do was just doodling T_T I'm slowly getting back into the groove by trying new brushes and new techniques *fingers crossed that I stay in the groove ahah
A couple of pages from my digital sketchbook (I also keep various traditional sketchbooks at the same time). Lately all I do is doodling,,,and some studies. The majority is done in ArtStudioPro on a small ipad, itās so convenient and I really like the program, basically a portable PS (and it works with PS brushes so I managed to have the same brushes I usually use on Clip Studio)
Itās been so long since I seriously painted anything that I rustied badly but I wanted to commit to something so here it is ^^ā TOTK is taking over my life and it makes me so inspired to pick up a brush and paint again! Just like BOTW did. I literally spend half of the time taking screenshots of the beautiful scenery lol
My cat More under our maple tree <3
after two months of nothing I finally felt like painting again and itās been so relaxingĀ I really missed it!!
round up of my pleinairpril efforts. I didnāt manage to do the whole month (been supr busy at work!!) but I learnt so much nonetheless. And had lots of fun!!
Is it too dark?
