I am genuinely curious, because I've never got my hands to the raw Japanese version of the GakuBaby manga.
So my question is: are the babies dialogues originally mangled and in baby talk? Like how Kazuma always says Takuma's and his own name as "Daguma" and "Kajuma"? And when Taka ask about "sexual harassment" (genderbent bonus chapter), and it's written as "sheshual house-ment"? It's hella adorable, but I'm still curious π
Thank you for your service as always π©·
Hi there! tysm for your support β€οΈ
Yes, they do talk like baby talk in the Japanese raws!
Simply put, they do this by replacing all kanji with hiragana and katakana so that most of the hard consonants like "t", "r" and "z" are replaced with "d", "w" and "j". Therefore the word said is almost the same, it just has a more babble-like feel.
That and also we adjust the words slightly during translating, proofreading and typesetting so that baby speech effect is kept as intended while staying understandable to the English reader.
(I was going to send an example screenshot but tumblr is genuinely broken on mobile and it flat out refuses images with text i have zero idea why, sorry π )
But in general I hope this helped and if thereβs any other work-related questions Iβm happy to answer π
