Adrian the dog. Who keeps getting kicked. Who comes back with a wagging tail. Over and over. Adrian the runt of the litter, the unwanted, never the favorite. Never anybody's best friend. Chris's final letter was to his best friend, and it was not Adrian. And still he would sit at Chris's feet. And still he would drag roadkill to Chris's door, his gifts unwanted. Adrian the dog, man's best friend.
