Viking silver from the Skaill Hoard in Orkney, Scotland. The pieces were hidden in around 950-970 AD and lay undiscovered until 1858 when a boy named David Linklater chased a rabbit into its hole. As David dug around the burrow entrance silver suddenly began to appear. He had found the Skaill Hoard, a Viking treasure containing over 100 pieces of silver.

Loot from today’s yule shopping, a little viking helmet I am going to use as a water cup when outdoors 🍃 From the box: “Artistic adaption based on an original helmet from the chieftain’s grave, Gjermundbu, Norway 10th cent. Some Scandinavians used metal mounted helmets and chain mail, but these are only rarely preserved in graves. Helmet, chain mail and sword were the weapons of a chieftain. Fragments of the helmet is placed in the University Museum of Antiquities in Oslo.”
