camille refused to even sort through the notifications on his phone. he couldn’t block her, nor could he come to actually tell her where he had gone. it wasn’t the most mature thing to do, to simply run away from a marriage, but he supposed none of he and adreinne’s marriage had been ‘mature’.
like most awful husband’s, cam found a lot of comfort in the arms of other people. he had found out first hand just how hospitable the women at the strip club were, and had to admit it made him love america even more. as he stood outside of the bar, staring at his phone he hummed. “you know i am just drunk enough for a cigarette.” he sang, his french accent strong as he looked over to the person besides him.
“does that mean i must drink more, or i must smoke?” he asked after with a small grin, shoving his phone into his pocket, doing his best to not let it ruin his mood.
Slipping outside, Veronica took a few deep breaths. One of the men inside was getting too worked up, and it was influencing her a bit more than she’d like. Sexual energy was fine, she didn’t mind it when they lusted after her, but when they started getting angry, she knew that trouble was coming. She didn’t need more trouble.
A man’s voice caught her attention, twisting to look over at him. She’d gotten a very nice tip from him that night, and he wasn’t too sleazy like some of the others, so she smiled. “If you ask nicely, I bet I could get a drink brought out here for you while you smoke?” Her powers washed over him, keeping him happy. That was only one of the reasons she was so good at her job, the other was the very skimpy outfit she wore.
“We just want to make you happy here, that’s all.” She pointed out, not bothering to act more sultry. With her powers, she didn’t need to act, she just needed to be herself.
she’d finally caved and gone into a hospital when she’d nearly collapsed just walking to the bathroom, and as much as she’d hated the whole thing she was relieved to have the ribs realigned - she could speed the healing process by feeding the void a bit more than usual, and all of this would be behind her in no time. still, going out and just finding people to throw into whatever exactly the void was wasn’t always a simple task, namely because she was trying to stick to only killing those that deserved it, and she didn’t trust herself not to pass out just walking around the city on her own - which was what had led to this moment. “don’t suppose you’d be interested in joining me for a night out? i’ll even buy dinner, just need a walking buddy.”
Vee immediately swung her bag onto her shoulder. "You kidding me? Let me think, do I want to go get free food with a pretty girl? Hmm, yeah, that’s a hard pass.” She joked, pushing down on the emotions that still clung to her. She was sick and tired of being a downer, that just wasn’t her style. Veronica had always been cheerful, she liked being cheerful, so she was just going to try fake being alright. It wasn’t like she didn’t have experience with that. “I’ll just follow you like a little puppy dog, begging for treats.”

Holden listened to her rant distractedly. He couldn’t help but chuckle quietly at the thought. “You weren’t listening to me at all, you are so rude.” he hummed back to her once she finally realized what they were talking about. He grinned widely and even let out a laugh as he sat back.
“I was saying how I missed scaring people. Making them pee themselves is actually quite fun, as I see you agree with.” he laughed again as he sat back against the couch. “What’re you looking for anyway? Do you have one of those Mary Poppins’ bags?” he asked, raising a brow.
“It’s a skill, listening to someone without actually... listening to them. And I don’t care if that doesn’t make sense because it should. And I have a gold medal at it.” It came in handy with her job, able to always glean the important information from anyone while not paying attention to anything else. “But yeah, I’m rude, and I’m not even a tiny bit sorry.”
Fear was a negative emotion, so she wasn’t particularly keen on it. But that wasn’t her problem as long as he didn’t scare people around her. “I don’t know, fear feels gross. But you do you. Scare away, just well away from me. Please.” Glancing down at her bag, she sighed dramatically. “I wish. That’d make life so much easier. No, I lost my car keys, and you know, everything I own is in there.” She lived out of her car, even though she could stay at the Tower. She was just used to it.

Vanya wasn’t one hundred percent sure what Veronica was talking about, but she decided that maybe she shouldn’t pry. Until, however, the girl continued on about the monster. “Oh,” Vanya hummed, crossing her legs. She tried to think of a way to respond to all of that. “Well, I don’t see any monsters right now, so you’ve got me and some good food for now.” She tried to lighten the conversation and ignore the the raw emotion that had been leaking from the girl into her brain, reminding herself that there was nothing at the moment that she needed to feel hurt over.
“I’m not here to lecture you, but maybe all of that just makes everything worse?” She shrugged. “I wish I could do more than give you empty advice.” Vanya tensed up slightly at her little joke about not being straight, but shook it away quickly. Now definitely wasn’t the time to be questioning your sexuality, there were more important things going on.
Veronica huffed, slightly insulted by the idea that she was imagining monsters. She’d been called insane often enough to have an absolute hatred of not being taken seriously. “Of course there aren’t monsters now. They’re real. If they were here right now, you’d be freaking out. They’re butt ugly.” She looked back down at the food before glancing up at Vanya again. “It’s not actually my food.” She admitted without any guilt. “Want some? Come on, take a bite. Live on the wild side. It’s more fun.” Nudging the container over, she flashed a grin. Her moods were ever changing, and being around Vanya would be a tiny bit of a distraction.
“It doesn’t make it worse, but it also doesn’t make it better. Nothing can really make it better except making myself feel sick by not letting myself feel anything at all.” Feeling the tightness in her own shoulders, she knew something was up with Vanya. “Spill. You had a tiny little wobbly emotion there, and well, why deal with my own shit when I can live on other people’s feelings?”
“Gotta admit I’m not digging the whole tower thing.” Holden hummed, making a face as he looked around. “I mean, it’s pretty bad ass, but I kinda miss being able to scare people from across the house.” he sighed, leaning back in his seat. “I guess I’ll have to do it the old school way, find bad people and make them piss themselves.” he laughed.
He knew he was teasing but in all honest he loved the new place. His floor was quite literally made for him, he was able to come in and out as liked, and he thought that perhaps it meant a brighter future for the academy. Maybe they could actually make a difference this time, if only they become more organized.
She knew he didn’t hate the Tower, hate was such a strong feeling. “Uh huh. It’s easy to make people piss themselves.” Veronica was almost distracted in her reply, searching through her bag. “Two ways to do it. Make them feel like they need to pee, which is actually a really fun way to do it because they try to hide it. Takes longer, but so worth the look of discomfort on their face. Or simply make them scared.”
Confused, she looked up from her bag. She had lost her keys again, but that didn’t really bother her too much, not yet. The conversation had finally sunk in. “Why are we talking about making people pee themselves?”

Vanya learned to stop expecting not to run into everyone randomly– it seemed to happen whenever she turned a corner. When she saw Veronica, her first instinct was to see if she’s okay, and her second instinct was to ask her what she was eating, because whatever it was smelled pretty damn delicious and Vanya remembered she hadn’t eaten yet today.
Though, she was hardly able to get the words out of her mouth before suddenly feeling a pretty intense, emotional pain despite being totally fine a few minutes prior. “Oh, uh– what is it?” She asked softly. Veronica sounded fine, but by the way Vanya’s mood had suddenly changed, she suspected a different story. “What’s wrong?” She asked, sitting down next to the girl.
Veronica knew her influence on people, but she didn’t feel guilty about it. She’d relied on her powers for too many years, she didn’t know anything else. “Monster came back.” Her voice cracked, so she took another bite of food. She was terrified, but not just of the monster. The last time in her life she’d told people about the monsters, everyone had called her insane. She didn’t want to be locked away like she was broken, not again.
Once she was sure she had control over her voice, she spoke again. “Killed my parents when I was a kid, left me. Saw it eating some poor dude, and it fucking licked me. I don’t have anything against licking in general, but not after eating raw meat, and not when it’s a ugly ass black gloop with creepy, sharp teeth.” She checked her bag, only to sigh. “I’m out. Got anything I can drink? Or take. Wait, it’s your brother that does the drugs, I’ll have go find him later. They don’t help, but nothing helps, so why not medicate until I can’t actually think straight?” She giggled, but it had no humour in it. “Not that I was ever straight.”
@onlyvanyaa
The Tower was pretty cool, but Veronica hadn’t turned up for a week after it’d appeared. Truth be told, she hadn’t even realised the Academy had been blown up, she’d been passed out drunk somewhere, and it’d taken her three days to find where she’d parked her car.
Starving after her adventures, she’d arrived at the same time as a delivery guy, making him utterly miserable without meaning to, and since the food had already been paid for online, she accepted it. Normally, Veronica would be honest and take it to the right person, but not today.
Sitting on the floor near the door, legs crossed, she helped herself to the food. When Vanya walked towards her, she felt the wave of hurt reaching out, but did nothing to control it. “Want some?”
@ccssics
The last thing she expected to see was a distorted person standing in the lift in the Tower. Veronica looked from the figure to the bottle in her hand and back again before deciding to take a careful drink. “You’re a different kind of monster.” Her voice was almost airy, so many different things in her system. She couldn’t actually be sure what she’d taken last. “Are you going to kill me? The other one won’t. Just everyone else.”
It wasn’t as scary as the other monster. Instead of black goop and sharp teeth, it was like a shattered mirror, a thousand different pieces all stuck to each other. And on fire, that was interesting. When the door started to close, she quickly stepped into the elevator. ‘Stupid curiosity, now you’re in a small space with something that could kill you. But then, a dedicated duck could probably kill you. There is a talking monkey, he could definitely kill you, so why not a duck? Veronica didn’t even realise she was talking out loud, almost forgetting the monster was there despite staring straight at it.

Griffin arched a brow at his fellow bartender, moving toward the door to peek outside of it for anyone that might look suspicious. He turned to her with his arms crossed over his chest and sighed. “Vee, what do you mean they never physically hurt you? Who’s hurting you?” Unknown to all of the people in the room, Griffin was concentrating his power onto Veronica, hoping that he could help her if she told him the truth. “Do we need to call the cops?”
Veronica threw her hands up in the air, using nervous energy to make up for the lack of her usual demeanor. “The fucking monster came back. Licked me this time, touched me, but - oh eww... it’d been eaten someone before it licked me. God, I need a drink. And a shower, but drink first.” The idea that the cops could help, would want to help even if they believed her made her laugh bitterly. “What would be the point of that? They’ll lock me up again, they’ve been looking for an excuse. I’m not going to let them call me insane again - and shit, I really need a drink before I spill my whole pathetic sob story.”
the creature slithered over, arms hanging limply at its side. it was still hungry (it always would be) but it was more interested in the poor human that was scared. a wicked grin took over its face showing the rows and rows of teeth. “how precious” it hissed circling the girl. “you fear tastes delicious by the way” as if to prove its point it ran its tongue up the girl’s cheek. “I’ve seen you before you now, i wonder what you would think if you knew who was underneath?” it laughed head thrown back.
it patted the girl’s shoulder strangely gently. “i’ll see you soon veronica, sleep tight.” it moved towards the opening of the alley but not before turning back to her. it pressed its head against the girl smirking. “dream of me won’t you?”
//end thread?
She couldn’t breathe. Frozen in place, she listened to the monster talk, feeling certain that she was going to die. But just like when she was a child, the monster didn’t hurt her. Veronica was fairly certain she was going to be sick when the tongue slid across her skin, but she still didn’t move, simply whimpered. She didn’t want to die like this. Any other way had to be better.
Rather than thinking the monster was someone she knew now, she interpreted the words a different way. It remembered her from when she was a little girl. “No....” The whisper came out in an ached voice. Why wouldn’t the monster just kill her and get it over and done with? Unable to bear the thought that maybe it’d been her fault, she started to run until she couldn’t breathe for a different reason, air trapped in her lungs.
END.
even though tess knew that going out was dangerous she needed something, something that wasn’t books and her apartment. as soon as she walked in the bar she recognised vee. she automatically steered towards the other woman. “hey,” she greeted, hand sliding over vee’s back. she frowned when she heard her words mouth opening to say something.
but then she thought better of it. it wasn’t her place to say, instead, she shook her head. “if you’re going for drunk beer ain’t gonna do it.” she signalled the bartender over ordering a few drinks. they waited for a few moments in silence until the shots were placed on the bar. tess raised her own shot to vee giving a small smile. “come on, the city has gone to shit might as well have fun”
Usually, when she saw Tess, there was a voice reminding her to be on slightly better behaviour than usual. Tonight, however, she was looking for distractions, and there was none better than the woman standing next to her. “Hey yourself, beautiful.” Tess was good and soft, and it hurt less to focus on her.
She’d lost track of how many different kinds of drinks she’d had tonight, the beer was just the latest, but she took the shot gratefully. “Thanks babe. This will help.” She clinked it lightly against Tess’s shotglass, not wanting to waste a drop, before downing it with ease. “Oh, is it fun you’re looking for?” Veronica laughed softly. “I’ve definitely thought about having fun with you. But you really can’t blame me for that. Just look at you. Do you have any idea how stunning you are? And I’m not just talking about those very kissable lips.” She was definitely a little drunker than she’d thought, but she didn’t stop talking. “You’re just so kind, it radiates from you like sunlight. So very warm.”

“Ah, so snacks are the way to your heart then, huh?” Ronan asked sweetly. He could definitely relate to that– anyone who offered him some tasty food was good in his books. “I suppose you’re right, in a way. But, from an artists perspective, I’m looking at the building as a form of art. And very separate from what may have gone on inside. Which, is pretty easy for me to say considering I never had to be one of the ones living inside,” He shrugged. Ben hadn’t talked to him much about his past, but anything he did say about it wasn’t generally said with much happiness, so Ronan always chose not to pry. “Really?” He asked, looking back towards the building for a moment. “Sure, I’d like that,”
Veronica snorted in amusement, thinking of how she never allowed anyone to get really close to her. “Everything’s the way to my heart. I’m really not picky. I’ll fall for the person who serves me coffee if I’m not careful.” That was one of the downfalls of her powers, but she’d found just living in the moment kept it from being too big a problem. “Oh, yeah, living in that place would have sucked. Some things, money can’t fix. Not that I’d know, I’ve always been gutter trash.” She reached out and grabbed his wrist, pulling him towards the door. “I don’t ever say things I don’t mean. If I wasn’t going to, I wouldn’t have offered. So come on.”
veritythomas
“Going dancing,” Verity admitted with a soft laugh. “Like out on the town and staying out until the early hours of the morning?” It sounded ridiculous but the idea of properly having a night out instead of frequenting the local pub was tantalizing. “It’s ridiculous,” She added with an eye roll. “I would need to find someone cute to go with.”
Veronica laughed and got to her feet. “Come on, that’s an easy one.” She offered her hand to the woman. “You’ve got me, I’m cute as fuck, and I know all the best clubs. No waiting in line. But we definitely need cuter dresses. So, we’ll have fun shopping for new clothes, I got paid yesterday so I’m good to go, then we’ll go out, dance, get drunk on free drinks because you’re definitely hot enough to get free drinks too, and we’ll stay out until the clubs close.”
She wasn’t completely sure where she was. At this point, she didn’t care. Everything inside her felt like it was crumbling, and Veronica wasn’t sure she could hold her powers in much longer. The last time she’d had so little control, she’d been desperate for her roommate to shut up and sleep.
That night in the mental institute was the first time she’d come to realise that maybe she had powers. She’d gotten good at controlling them, controlling people, from that day on, and it’d become second nature.
Now, she felt like she was going to lash out if anyone felt anything even remotely negative around her.
Feeling someone’s presence, she looked up them as she took another drink. It did nothing to help her, nor had the random pills she’d taken that day, but they stopped her from worrying that someone might get hurt if she did lose control.
“You got some catching up to do.” She slurred the words before holding out the bottle. “Or if you want, I think I still got some pills left. Not sure what they are though.”
@notinsanegirl
Griffin didn’t mind working with Vee, in fact, she might be one of the more tolerable coworkers at The Three Monkeys. She generally had an overall good vibe and kept the customers happy. But it was a bit strange being the one to open up. He had a reputation of coming in a bit later than the other person to open the doors but, Vee wasn’t at the bar yet. Hearing someone frantically open the front door and lock it behind them, Griffin emerged from the back with concerned eyes. “Vee, are you okay?”
Veronica was most certainly not okay. The pain, fear, anger, panic, all of it was going through her, and she didn’t like dealing with negative emotions on the best of days. Today was not the best of days. She’d seen a monster, just like the one that killed her parents, and no, she was not really ready to deal with her fears that maybe she was insane, or worse, maybe she wasn’t. Work would help, she hoped. Being around drunk people often helped. Quickly locking the door behind her, just in case that monster had followed her, she turned to Griffin with wide eyes. “Nope, not okay at all.” It wasn’t a surprise to her that she blurted it out. “I mean, not hurt, they never physically hurt me, but not okay.”
event two. location; downtown. tw: extreme gore, possession
she had suppressed the hunger for weeks now, longer than she had ever since she was a child. it was starting to make fee feel less stable. the redhead shuddered, back pressing against a wall as she watched the dead body. her head snapped to the side, eyes slithering to black. let me eat, let me eat.
she was weak, sick, tired. her control was hanging on by a thread. and then it snapped. the blackness oozed out of her; her eyes, her mouth, her fingertips until the creature took over. Felicity slipped to the back, the monster taking over. It approached the dead body, black eyes scanning it from the stuffed toy it was holding to the half blown away face.
“an adult, too skinny but it will have to do” it crouched down, hands pressing inside the body. it didn’t hesitate to stuff the meat inside its wide mouth. a noise from the head of the alley drew it’s attention away. the monster looked up, a smirk taking over its face. “you know it’s considered rude to watch a person eat.”
Everything felt shaky, like she couldn’t focus. Bombarded on all sides by fear and all the other most negative emotions that humanity had, Veronica couldn’t even feel her own fear. One of the bombs had gone off near where she sometimes slept, but all she could feel was the mindless panic others felt.
Walking quickly, she planned to just check in quickly in on some friends who lived on the streets, well aware that it was people like her that often disappeared when things were chaotic. No one was ever watching out for the homeless people. But when she saw the black oozing figure, she was frozen in fear of her own.
She was a little girl again, staring at a monster. “No. No no no no no.” She wasn’t a little girl, but she was still staring at a monster. “I knew it. I knew I wasn’t - oh god.” Everyone had told her that it’d just been grief, or PTSD that had made her see a monster instead of a man. She wasn’t insane, this was real. It had to be real.
