In other news, I’ll be in Rome next Sunday and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to finish that week’s minicomic in time while also packing and rushing to put together a good pitch bible for my comic so I can get feedback from one of the speakers. So unless I can get some peeps to do guest comics, I might not have posts for you guys next week. I might in the meantime post some art and visual development stuff I’ve been working on. I’ll see what I can do.

And this week’s comic features one of my trans dudes, Jic. This is loosely based on an experience I had back when I thought I might be trans and tried (very unsafe) methods of binding.

I’m getting close I think to the kind of coloring style and art direction I want for the comic. My lazy ass backgrounds still need work tho.

This is actually more of just a Luca thing or maybe even an Asian thing than an ADHD thing but I didn’t really want to give Luca more than one comic strip series title so I figured I’d just stick with it. I also have one planned for some time down the line where Luca and Leon deal with their conservative Chinese grandmother and I’ll probs just put it under the usual ADHD Werewolf title.

Also omg sorry i kinda rushed this strip to make it in time for this Sunday and I barely made it. Also I was trying to play with my color and lighting a bit and idk  it came off a bit wonky. Leon’s shirt got a bit too pale as my lady pointed out. idk whatevs will deal with it in the next strip. maybe do more studying on how other people color their stuff.

Sorry I missed last week’s comic. Got hit by a really bad downward spiral and also got overwhelmed by work. But I think I’ve just about bounced back now and I shoouuld be on track from here on out. Hopefully.

I tried a simpler shading style this time around. Not sure yet if I like it but it’s pretty fast and easy to do. I’m still toying with the right balance of speed and detail for the style I wanna go with for my comic.

I tried a simpler shading style in this one, kind of like it. Not sure if I’ll keep it but I think it’s more efficient than the more rendered look I did last week so we’ll see what coloring style I try for next week. But I think I’m getting there. Also, Luca’s hairstyle might change lol coz I’m toying with other styles for her.

I plan to update it when I have a more solid grasp on the story since I’m in the middle of my fifth draft and the characters are still growing. But I think I’ve almost got it and when I do, I’ll work out a better about page that I’ll be circulating again.

Luca

She’s a smol anxiety-ridden gay nerd with ADHD who gets bitten by a werewolf, which agitates her symptoms and leaves her with little choice but to drop film school for werewolf school so she can have a better grasp of her new abilities, heightened senses (now even more prone to overstimulation than ever before) and worsening anxiety.

Clio

The bisexual Irish witch with dyslexia, Clio moves to the Philippines to get some space from an overbearing sister and just finish her studies in a school here while another sibling keeps an eye on her. (said sibling is supposedly poly and kinky but hasn’t quite made much of an appearance in the drafts yet so lol i guess that’s just bg info for now). Clio’s the tol love interest of tiny lesbian Luca.

Leon

Leon is Luca’s gay twin brother, dealing with ADHD, depression and an obsession with conspiracy theories and One Direction, not necessarily in that order or that combination. Or actually, maybe that order and that combination if the situation calls for it. So far, I’m still trying to see if there’s room in the scripts for his obsession with Harry Styles, but for now I’m content to have that take place in the MiniComics

Max

Leon’s new punk boyfriend, Max, is an elf and a classmate of Clio’s. She’s basically helping him transition with under the table spells, so that’s a bit hush-hush. Also Max is pretty much hooked on working out and video games. He’s the most bro of the bros. Except minus the whole sexist asshole tendencies that demographic typically has.

Jic/Jica

Jic/a was initially going to be a lesbian but writing them has had me leaning more towards the trans or nonbinary spectrum. He’s not too particular about pronouns and can go with them/him/her but kind of likes the feel of him. He’s a hard-worker and an A+ flirter and riddled with inappropriate NSFW jokes that drive Jason insane. Luca, Leon and Aly kind of have a safeword worked out with Jic for when he’s crossing the line and it’s all cool. He’s protective af over his friends since they’re just about the only family he still has. Of their group of four, he’s probs the most outspoken and hardheaded.

Aly

She’s essentially the ideal Chinese-Filipino daughter- beautiful, hard-working, welcoming, studying business management, bottling up her passion for art and most of her emotions in general. Not that she’s ungrateful to her parents, but the one thing they ask of her that she’s having trouble doing is bringing home a handsome (and ideally well-educated and career-driven) Chinese boy. She feels like she might be ace. Not that that would matter if she told her parents. They disapprove enough of how she hangs out with so many “bad influences” (ie Trans Jic, Lesbian Luca and Gay Leon). They seem to appreciate though the “high moral standards” Aly maintains despite being friends with them. Aly’s kind of just trying to keep them happy and her friends wish she’d put in a little time to make herself happy.

Lucy

Luca and Leon’s mother, she tends to be overbearing and seems to need to be reminded of the symptoms and struggles that her children deal with. And her cold, strict upbringing tend to affect the way she responds to her children and how cold she tends to be with them. Still, she does love them. She just has trouble showing it.

Chris

He’s a lot more calm and patient than his wife, but he’s not necessarily going to let his children get away with irresponsible behavior if that’s what he sees them doing. He’s pretty open-minded though. After the hoops of fire he had to jump through to win over his Chinese lady when he himself is Filipino, Chris knows well enough what it’s like to be judged and denied acceptance and he never wants his children to feel that from him.

Jesse

He’s an asshole.

No really, he just is.

Also he’s a werewolf.

He’s an asshole werewolf.

And he’s like one of the major antagonists over the course of the comic.

Aeli

She doesn’t quite know where she stands. She’s gotten herself in really deep with a gang she and Jesse are part of. She’s a vampire and she’s a pretty damn tough one at that, and she uses her innocent appearance to her advantage sometimes, but there are times when she wonders if what she’s doing is the right thing. Also she’s ace. She thinks Darren is adorbs though. Not that she’ll tell him to his face.

Darren

This lanky dweeb likes to draw and is part of the soccer team with Jesse. He’s a high school nerd around Aeli but he’s starting to get over his awkwardness and talk to her like a normal human--- er, werewolf being. He’s a pretty compassionate dude though. He sees the struggle Luca and Jic go through and wants to help but isn’t quite sure how to approach them.

Odyne

More than a couple of centuries old, Odyne lived through the middle ages crossdressing and fighting the good fight as a knight. (idk, think Brienne, but maybe not quite as square.) She’s tough and cold but very protective and caring of her students. She’s a professor and a high ranking member of the Noxamus Council. Noxamus being the school, community and sanctuary for werewolves and vampires in the Philippines. She’s also leading the investigation into why so many werewolves and vampires are being bitten lately.

Jason

Lol his name might change just because I realized just now he has the same name as @asynca ‘s equally overbearing manager character. Oops. OTL But yeah he’s the manager at the coffeeshop that Luca, Leon and Jic work at, owned by Luca and Leon’s mother. He resents how the three of them got their jobs just by being related to Miss Lucy Guerrero, and gives them a damn hard time for it.

Nichole

She’s Darren’s abusive ex and has insane claws that can scar vampires and werewolves like only silver can. She’s part of the same gang Jesse and Aeli are in and though she more or less appreciates how Aeli introduced her to something great, Nichole still doesn’t like how Aeli can pull off her two personas so well.

Sep

He’s another asshole. Mostly Jesse’s lackey and occasional bodyguard. Not that Jesse really needs right hand muscle, Sep still plays that part.
