ok so let me yap (SORRY THIS GOT A LITTLE LONG LOL) about Danny and Doog a little, and the reason Doog keeps popping up even if his involvement stays limited (WIWNBB is Infume POV and he does not particularly concern himself with Doog for the majority of it. however - to stay true to the intricate net of pack dynamics me and my friend have created, Doog was always going to keep appearing)
they joined the pack around the same time (just like they joined HBG irl a few months apart, I like to keep the pack timeline the same as irl). they've always been Danny and Doog. Doog and Danny. Danny who is always involved in Doog's heats, and Doog who is involved in Danny's ruts, because that's how it is, that's how it has always been. my friend put it beautifully back in february "they never mated. they arenât mates. but they are something. theyâre something."
in many ways, Danny and Doog represent the part of the pack that a claim is not necessary. that you can forge a bond just as strong without a physical claim. even within a pack that goes insane over claims (glaring at you Nerdi and Couri)
in chapter 2, Doog's heat has ended, and he follows Danny to nap in Danny's bed afterwards, skipping majority of the omega cuddles post-heat. there is no other motive to it - Doog is there by chance, simply because he wanted to stay with Danny. I wrote about separating the omega from the alpha as soon as the heat is over because otherwise a secondary heat can be triggered - shorter, more aggressive, potentially painful (Infume describes them painful because they typically are painful for him, but this isn't the case for everyone, some of them just get.. delirious, horny and needy for a pregnancy). however... even Infume knows Doog and Danny have spent so many heats together, how did I put it, hmm "they probably have it down to a fine art". an omega is not supposed to be in an alpha's bed so soon after their heat - but, in the case of Danny and Doog that is an overreaction and the pack should (can) trust them to navigate that safely. because they're that close
from writer's POV, introducing Doog in chapter 2 was necessary because there was no way I was going to erase Doog's involvement from the whole story if I wanted to keep the DannyDoog lore alive as it is one of my favourite background stories to WIWNBB
to showcase the perfection that is Danny and Doog - an important piece of their background lore is that Doog was never going to commit to HBG unless Danny was accepted the way he is (a meek, easy-to-bully, non-traditional alpha with submissive traits) (ofc HBG was always going to accept Danny but you know, there was a period of I need to see it for myself for Doog). when Danny was claimed by Fein.. to Doog that was acceptance, that was easy because it meant Danny was accepted, appreciated, wanted. it solidified things
when Danny claims Infume.. it's.. rushed and sudden, and to anyone who maybe struggles to understand such an irrational fear (debatable if it is irrational or not, to anyone mated it is easy to perceive as irrational because mating is such a phenomenal, positive experience) it's gotta make you go "but why?" - especially to Doog. Infume kinda digs into DannyDoog in chapter 4 like, for two people so comfortable and settled with each other, why would Danny mating change anything - but of course it does. of course it does. there are simple biological things that are immediately standing in the way, like the possessiveness, and the honeymoon period post mating. who calls dibs if DoogFume go in heat at the same time, how do they navigate Danny's ruts in the future? there is also the delicious little detail that while Infume is HBG's baby omega right now.. who was the baby omega before Infume? right. Doog :]
we see Doog as a nuisance to Infume in chapter 4. Doog is being pushy post the Danny-Infume claim because Doog is anxious. he is a little angry. he is uncertain how things will look like after Danny is suddenly Infume's. and they do work it out - we see the start of that process happen in chapter 4 :]
