Missing Pingyao quite abit.
Can't believe it's been a week since everything ended. These recent days I've been trying to pack up and sort out things that I kinda ignored while focusing on my FYP for months - it's quite scary to see the messes I've accumulated 😓 While everyone is flying off for their grad trips, I can only hope that my travel bug stays sleeping and only wake up when I've saved enough for a trip 🙏 (at NTU School of Art, Design and Media)
Today marked the last art school critique of my life. I would never imagine myself to be constantly standing in front of my own works, defending it, taking in criticism, being flustered with compliments - but I went through 4 solid years of that. Time flies. Really, really flies. I've been so sleep deprived these few days rushing the final touches, I really don't know how I'll survive without my classmates. It feels extremely satisfying to see all our blood and sweat hung up on the gallery walls, looking swee swee. 👍 So come join us for the grad show opening? 😀 Ps. Of course we have food and wine. And I know it's a bitch travelling to NTU. Ask me for travel details! #admgradshow #ntuadm (at School of Art, Design & Media)
Last week, Singapore saw the passing of a giant and there was an imense outpour of emotions and debates, which made me rethink the notion of "home". I won't dare to claim that I've found the answer for that, but the launch of First Homes is a timely reminder of the intricate weave of memories, time and spaces that make up our belonging - which ultimately shapes who we are. I've been fortunate to have interviewed people who wholeheartedly shared their stories with me during my internship stint with Logue. It's a nice way to gain perspectives, and I've also befriended a few really cute aunties (wahhaha). 😎 First Homes' exhibition will be held at National Library Level 1, from 3 to 28 April. The stories I wrote and portraits I shot will be up on the website ( http://firsthomes.sg ) soon. Excited! 😀🙌 (at National Library, Singapore)
You will never see a photograph of yourself that looks like the self you imagine yourself to be. — Michael Lipsey
Choosing your life’s work simplifies everything about your life. — Michael Lipsey
Some people have it figured out early, while some people don't even think about figuring it out.

Yikes.
This morning (or rather, yesterday), I went into a mosque for the first time in my life.
"它叫黑白白, 我会唱歌给它听。" It's taking a long time to write Aunty Mui Hong's story in Mandarin and in her voice, but the melody she sang kept ringing in my head throughout the whole time I was typing away. Sometimes it's funny when you think about the things that you remember of someone, however minute they are. #firsthomessg #itistimetosleep #lorongbuangkok (at Kampong Lorong Buangkok)
"One of photography’s functions is to help us remember what may not exist tomorrow. When you photograph with a film camera, you’re capturing heat in the form of light onto the emulsion. So when you hold a negative or slide made in the presence of your Mom, or your dog, or Marilyn Monroe, or a crowd of strangers, you have in your hands something that had been irrevocably transformed by the warmth of their living, breathing bodies. That piece of film is tangible evidence of their lives."
Thank you Nguan, for such lovely, lovely words.
It's tomorrow! 😄
"Passages", a photo book I've made from my documentation photographs and found images of my family's two houses at Pengarang, Malaysia. It's my way to say goodbye to the houses as they will be gone soon, a loss that is very significant to me. I will be presenting and selling this book at @thebookshow alongside with my classmates with their self-published books, it would mean a lot to us to be able to share our works. So catch us this Saturday at 2902 gallery, 11am to 7pm ☺
So I was editing some old photos for the book and got slightly creeped out by the ghostly figure discovered in the high-res scan. Sent it to @whoissignorekai for him to see and he sent the same image back, with his discovery. Tell me what you see?
Stress is when test prints are below standards and when the papers aren't working as imagined and layouts are getting confusing and the horror of realising the amount of money needed for printing and nightmares of forgetting the actual submission deadlines and knowing that I'm incoherent and god damn it I need another cup of tea to keep myself awake. So buy my photobook at the photo book show on 3rd May to help me cover my costs? Please? 😟 #lifeofaphotostudent #pandaeyes
