“How thoughtful,“ Nick snarked, moving closer to be face to face with her, “treating us like cattle to be reused.“ He stared into her eyes, trying to instill some sort of fear with it while still denying the truth of her blindness.

When asked, Nick pressed the the side of the tip of the knife under her chin, in an attempt to be more threatening. “What I want is to make you bleed until you stop being a threat to humanity, more specifically to my brothers. We hunted things like you. Maybe we should get back to it.“ He pulled the knife away and leaned back. “Lucky for you right now, we hunt together, and my brother is not interested in you. For some reason.“ Nick empathized a sarcastic tone on the last part, expressing his suspicion towards her.

The vampire growled and shoved him back as she felt the knife pressed against her neck. “I’d suggest you keep your blades to yourself.” She sneered. “I don’t appreciate being cut for no reason. I’d also suggest you take your brother’s advice and keep me off your radar. You assume I’m an enemy. And if you continue to treat me as such, I can assure you you’ll regret it.” 

“Now that would make things easier, convincing my brother you’re worth the hunt,“ Nick replied with a smile, but then put the blade on the sheath, “however, his smarts have saved our asses before. I still don’t trust this... interest you say you had on my brother. A monster with an interest in humans has never ended well for us.“ His tone was passive-aggressive, like suspicious or defensive. “Or would you disagree?“

“He told us everything we needed to hear,“ Nick replied bitterly, quickly sliding the tip of the knife off and against her side, slightly tearing her dress at the stomach and scratching her skin in a way it would sting a normal person, and let go off her while still keeping close. “You didn’t give him much of an option. A choice between forceful, messy feeding, and a controlled feeding, can you really call it a choice? No. Only monsters like you justify suffering with “they had a choice”. Or am I wrong?“

She grimaced as she was cut by the knife. The blind woman took a step away from him, trying to get a little space between them. Her lips pursed as he spat the insults her direction. The vampire waited patiently. “I doubt he suffered much. It was his own choice to slice his arm.” she retorted. “You haven’t answered my question.” She said. “Is your brother alright?”

“There it is again, calling it a choice,“ Nick responded pointing the knife at her, not that she could see, “still as despicable.“ He lowered the knife. “And so good of you to still pretend to care. What, you check on every victim you feed of? Or only the ones that survive? Just to see if they are available for seconds, I’m sure.“

“Your brother was… interesting. I was drawn to him for some reason.” The vampire paused. “I won’t deny I’ve killed. The number is in the hundreds by now, I’m sure. But the number of humans I’ve fed from is far greater than that. I don’t claim to care about every one of my targets either.” She confessed. The Mistress spoke plainly.  

There was a long pause.

“What is it you want from me?” she asked plainly.

Nick eventually noticed the sound a cane repeatedly knocking against the floor. He looked over and noticed some familiarity. A few more seconds of examination as the figure got closer and he recognized her. “Oh, this is too good of a chance,“ he thought to himself, smiling.

Nick leaned against the wall and kept smoking his cigarette, trying to look less  conspicuous and recognizable as he still didn’t believe she was blind. He acted normal and waited for her to pass by to surprise her.

She heard the shuffle of another person nearby. The vampire was alerted to the presence and kept her pace the same. She was unaware the man she was approaching was an enemy.  Her lips tugged downward, not enjoying the scent of cigarette smoke. 

The moment she passed in front of him, Nick pulled out a knife, wrapped an arm around the mistress’ shoulders, and pressed the dull part of the knife on her abdomen just enough so she knew what it was. There were some scattered people around, so he couldn’t just attack her outright. “Funny to see you walk this place again after only two days. Hungry again?“ His tone of voice was bitter and heavily resentful towards her.

In an attempt to take advantage of this sudden situation, Nick clearly didn’t consider the risks of being in such a position with a vampire, nor the weaknesses and strength of their kind.

The Mistress was shocked when she was grabbed but she kept her cool. She could feel the blade pressed against her side and was about to fight back when his words registered in her mind. Two days ago…? the vampire thought. And then it dawned on her. This had to be one of the brothers. 

“Let me go or I’ll scream. I don’t think you want attention drawn to you.” she warned calmly. “I’ll stay and we can discuss whatever you’d like. But only if you release me.” she conditioned. The blind woman paused. “Is your brother doing alright? I do hope he told you that wound was self-inflicted.”

Clock was ticking around midnight. Nick lit a cigarette with a match as he walked along a familiar sidewalk. Dry drops of blood from a few days ago were yet to be washed away. “She is not worth a hunt,“ Nick remembered his brother Steve saying, “she only needed to feed. I am fine.“ What does he know? He could have died if they haven’t saved him, he thought.

Steve was mostly fully recovered by then. He had no early signs of transformation taking place, and his arm had a bandage wrapped around the cut which was healing pretty well. Tim was tasked to keeping an eye on him while Nick was away.

“Come to me, bitch. I’ll give you something to taste,“ he muttered under his breath, flicking the ash off his cigarette. He was unaware the encounter was going to happen sooner than he anticipated.

The Mistress was in a fairly good mood, humming to herself as she walked through the city streets. It had been a couple days since her attack on the other man, and their encounter had fallen to the back of her mind.She was making a routine visit to a local blood bank, stocking up on a reserve supply she kept on hand at her home.

The vampire had a brown paper bag in her arms. Her silver and ruby cane was in one hand, clacking against the sidewalk and helping guide her way.  The night’s gentle breeze blew her hair back over her shoulders and the scent of a cigarette reached her nose.

“Is that a threat?“ Nick asked, as the sound of the ladder introduced the bulkier of the brothers.

“Nick! What-“ Tim began asking when Nick interrupted.

“Get her!“

Tim looked at the Mistress Nick was aiming at, and without much thought (as per usual for him) he charged forward. He didn’t even notice the ledge, and his reaction time wasn’t the best. This wasn’t his brightest plan.

“Stay well.” the vampire said, turning her face to the first of the brothers. With that, she leaned back and fell backwards off the roof of the building. It was a foolish move as she didn’t quite know what was down this side of the building. As she fell, she rolled over, turning herself to land on all fours. Her hand released her cane as she fell, knowing she could pick it up later. 

Tim was still going after her when she started falling, but was stopped by Nick quickly rushing over and grabbing him from the back of the neck of his coat. Nick made it almost in time, and he was left with his brother hanging by the coat and hand.

“Grab on already!“ insisted Nick as his arm rapidly got tired.

Tim complied, reaching for the ledge, and then pulling himself up quite effortlessly. He looked down to the vampire who landed unharmed and growled. “I can catch up to her.“

Nick, meanwhile, rested on his back, exhausted just from holding onto his heavier, older brother for a few mere seconds. “Leave it... We need to take Steve back home...“ He rolled over and looked down as well. “She’s not human, if she landed just like that... We’ll prepare a proper hunt later...“

For most of this interaction, Steve had already fallen unconscious. He was picked up by Tim, and slowly descended down the proper apartment building’s stairs after Nick unlocked the door the younger brother had originally tried to open (he was the one with the lockpicking experience, Steve was still learning) and headed home, the same way Steve was originally going before the encounter.

Nick walked forward towards Steve while still pointing the knife at the Mistress. “Stay away from my brother. Playing blind doesn’t fool me.“ When he reached him, he crouched and checked his pulse with two fingers of his other hand, still staring and pointing at the vampire with the other hand. “How are you feeling, brother.“

“Well.“ Steve responded, “She can go.“

“Yeah, that’s not happening, Steve,“ Nick stated, “not if she hurt you like that.“

In the background, the fire exit’s clanking started to be heard again. This time, the climbing seemed to be rushed, but still the slowest of all the climbs. That would be the last of the brothers.

“I-I’m not playing blind.” The vampire said with a scowl. Her head turned towards the sound coming from the fire escape. There was someone else coming. “And I didn’t hurt him.” she argued. It was the truth. She wasn’t the one who made the cut.

“If he’s alright, I’ll go. You sound like a friend. Someone  he knows and trusts.” The Mistress wasn’t aware of the knife in the other man’s hand. “Do take care of him.” 

“You’re not going anywhere until we know you had nothing to do with this!“ Nick threatened, yelling, “and so far, you’re looking very suspicious to not have been involved. You have until our brother arrives to tell me your version of the story.“

Given the noise of the railings, it seemed like she had just under 30 seconds to reply, escape, or think of something else.

The Mistress shook her head. “I’ve got nothing else to say.” she replied. “I didn’t injure him. And he’s told you to let me go. I would listen to him.” The vampire kept backing up, her heels hitting the ledge of the roof. One more step backwards and the woman would fall back off the roof.

“I’ll be a burden alright,” she said with a growl as flames started to wirl around her wrists. “I’ll be a burden to those who locked me in this shitty cell in the first place.”

Ghost raised an eyebrow and nodded. “Noted. I guess I could use a distraction,“ he said, then got off the wall and approached the door. “I guess giving you a head-start would benefit us both.“

When he reached the door, and just as with the camera, he extended his arm and it turned into smoke, which then crept into the lock of the door. “Oh, tricky mechanism for a lock. Give me a second.“

And indeed, five seconds later, the door unlocked and swung open. The smoke returned and reformed into an arm, and he gestured to the open door with it. “After you.“

Caroline sprinter out the door as she started to cause chaos and mayhem in her way and of course to get the things what she was originally there for.

Ghost smirked as Kyubi made a mess the moment she exited the cell. “Well, guess she keeps to her word. Anyways,“ he talked to himself before staring at the ground and sighed, “here goes nothing.“ He turned into a cloud of smoke and phased through the ground below.

He reached two floors below and materialized on the servers room. “Well, then. Back to business.“

“Oh, I can get you out,“ Ghost commented, smiling kind of smugly, “if you convince me I should. And after this nausea clears up.“ He shrugged. “I do have other stuff to do here and I can’t be certain you’re not gonna be more of a burden if you get out.“

“I’ll be a burden alright,” she said with a growl as flames started to wirl around her wrists. “I’ll be a burden to those who locked me in this shitty cell in the first place.”

Steve couldn’t break the chant until the last word, “… lucerna.“ A small runed circle formed on his hand, and with a hum not as loud as before an orb of red light was shot up like a flare, floating above.

Finally, he sighed. “I will. Brother is coming,“ he responded, and almost on cue, the same metallic noises from the fire exit could be heard, and it sounded like they were climbing twice as fast as Steve did on his way up. “He’s fast. Go.“ He paused. “I don’t want him hurt.“

Her head tilted as she waited for the reply. It was shortly after when she heard the noise. “I could tell them I found you. That I was helping…” offered the vampire. Even though she offered to stay and help, she was backing away. “I don’t want to hurt anyone. But I will defend myself.” she warned softly. 

“Just run,“ Steve insisted, but by the time that was said, his brother grabbed onto the ledge and climbed up to the rooftop quite swiftly.

Unsurprisingly for Steve, it was Nick, only he could climb ladders that fast. Nick took a quick look at the scene the moment he got up, and pulled out two daggers from his belt and aimed the tip of one of them to the vampire. “What did you do to him.“ His tone of voice was serious with hints of anger, which had more emotion than Steve’s mostly monotone voice.

The blind woman heard the other voice and shuffled a couple paces back. “I-I don’t know.” she lied. “He was injured. I don’t know what happened.” she feigned innocence. The vampire continued to back away, using her cane to find the edge of the building. She knew she could survive a jump or fall to the ground, but unfortunately, she wasn’t sure where the best place was to leave the rooftop. “I don’t want trouble.” The Mistress stated, holding up her hands in front of her. Her left hand kept the cane securely in place. This was her best weapon when it came to an attack.

Playing blind doesn’t fool me.“ When he reached him, he crouched and checked his pulse with two fingers of his other hand, still staring and pointing at the vampire with the other hand. “How are you feeling, brother.“

The man turned his head at the person talking to him, still holding his head, and then he just lowered it again in frustration “Of course I stop in the one cell that wasn’t empty…“

He got off the wall, turned his body to her, and extended his hands outwards like a greeting. “You can call me Ghost. Is that my name? No it isn’t cause I wouldn’t say it to a stranger in a Hydra base, be it a prison cell or a conference room. So, with that information, what are you going to do?“ In his final sentence, the previous gesture seamlessly turned into a shrug, with a smug smirk on his face.

Caroline was silent as she looked at the other, confused of what she was seeing. She hoped to see a familiar face , not a stranger.

“They called me Blitz,” she finally said as she for up. “They still do, but I would prefer Kyubi.”

“Right. Well Kyu, I guess I’ll be waiting here for a bit,“ Ghost replied, looking around the room, “because I don’t feel like phasing through concrete again. Yet, at least.“

Ghost walked to a corner and looked up to a concealed camera. He raised his hand to it and the entire arm turned into a smoke which flew into the device. Seconds later, sparks flew off, and the smoke returned and reformed into an arm again. “There, some privacy,“ he said and leaned against the wall to rest.

“So…. what’s your version of your story?“

“My real name is Caroline Rumlow and I’m Hydras little science experiment,” she mused and she lied down on the floor. “I could blast us our from here, but they made it fire proof,” she sighed as she looked at the ceiling.

Steve shook his head at the first question. “Magic is my thing. They have their own,“ he answered. He then took a moment to think of the second question, then nodded his head to a side, as if uncertain. “Possible, unlikely. They’re defensive. We all are for each other, but they’ve got worse temper.“ He didn’t intend to sound threatening, but more of a warning, “I will try, though.“

“Let them know our encounter was simply chance. I’m not hunting you.” She told him emphatically. She paused. “Granted, I did pursue you. And chase you up onto the rooftop.” The Mistress let out a small chuckle. “I do apologize. For doing so. But, you chose to run… I couldn’t just let you go.” 

“You need to feed. Humans don’t think about that part.“ Steve muttered, his eyelids feeling heavier every minute. He leaned his body to a side and lay down on the floor of the rooftop, still barely awake.

Meanwhile, on the floors below, someone could be heard calling out for someone. “Brother! Are you around? Stee, call out if you hear me!“

Steve smiled when he heard the call, and laid his hand in a way so his palm faced up. “Go,“ he mumbled, then began chanting something in a much quieter tone.

The Mistress frowned when she heard the call. “Your brother?” She questioned. She hesitated, not quite sure if she wanted to leave him while he seemed to be so weak. “Will you be alright?” she asked with a frown. “I don’t want to leave you here if you’re not alright.” The vampire shifted nervously, shuffling back a couple steps. She was ready to run but couldn’t quite go yet.

Steve couldn’t break the chant until the last word, “... lucerna.“ A small runed circle formed on his hand, and with a hum not as loud as before an orb of red light was shot up like a flare, floating above.

Finally, he sighed. “I will. Brother is coming,“ he responded, and almost on cue, the same metallic noises from the fire exit could be heard, and it sounded like they were climbing twice as fast as Steve did on his way up. “He’s fast. Go.“ He paused. “I don’t want him hurt.“

The man turned his head at the person talking to him, still holding his head, and then he just lowered it again in frustration “Of course I stop in the one cell that wasn’t empty…“

He got off the wall, turned his body to her, and extended his hands outwards like a greeting. “You can call me Ghost. Is that my name? No it isn’t cause I wouldn’t say it to a stranger in a Hydra base, be it a prison cell or a conference room. So, with that information, what are you going to do?“ In his final sentence, the previous gesture seamlessly turned into a shrug, with a smug smirk on his face.

Caroline was silent as she looked at the other, confused of what she was seeing. She hoped to see a familiar face , not a stranger.

“They called me Blitz,” she finally said as she for up. “They still do, but I would prefer Kyubi.”

“Right. Well Kyu, I guess I’ll be waiting here for a bit,“ Ghost replied, looking around the room, “because I don’t feel like phasing through concrete again. Yet, at least.“

Ghost walked to a corner and looked up to a concealed camera. He raised his hand to it and the entire arm turned into a smoke which flew into the device. Seconds later, sparks flew off, and the smoke returned and reformed into an arm again. “There, some privacy,“ he said and leaned against the wall to rest.
