When Teas Taste Best (Chinese Recipe)
When one’s heart and hands are idle When one’s thoughts are disturbed When shut up in one’s home all day When charming friends visit In a quiet secluded room with old photos, antiques, paintings, mementos and sweet memories.
The Herbalist - Joseph E. Meyer
Flowering Teas
Herbal garden growth throughout summer 2013. Harvested most of the herbs already. Patiently waiting to discover the right (looking for possibly 1 oz. mason jars, snap lid) lip conditioner containers. Planning on manipulating the herbs into lip conditioners! Next summer I will be planting all of the strands of mint in a plastic garden pot and then planting them in the raised beds. It will help control the spread. Although the tomatoes kept them controlled in the (last picture, garden bed closest to camera) in the second bed however they began to take over! Although I love them, I want the other herbs to have a fighting chance, and against mint... there practically is none! HAPPY HERB LOVIN'
Harvested August 2, 2013: patchouli, hyssop, lemon verbena, fruit sage, apple mint, lime mint, pineapple mint, lemon balm, chamomile (flora + stem), basil, peppermint, & cocoa mint.
Bundled & hung to dry.
After harvesting Eucalyptus from the herbal garden I infused it with organic coconut oil. After giving the infusion time to do it's thang under the sun I then used the infusion for two wonderful products.
Numero Uno: Combining the infusion (fresh Eucalyptus + coconut oil) with MgSO4 + dried lavendula + a few drops of Eucalyptus oil to create a soothing exfoliant with healing benefits. I then added a raw honey scrub center for a finer anti-bacterial and hydrating property.
Numero Dos: Combining the infusion with MgSO4 + lavendula + a few drops euca. oil I then added fresh Aloe Vera gel. Aloe Vera is a wonder plant topically! & I love to make Aloe water with the leftovers.
This week I made use of a small Aloe Vera plant kept near the kitchen window.
The gel was combined with a homegrown//homemade Eucalyptus x MgSO4 exfoliant.
The Safest and Most Beneficial Herbs
Interestingly enough, some of the most common herbs have the most healthful benefits. Even many everyday ingredients that we add to food can improve our health. A list of the most beneficial herbs includes:
Garlic is a powerful natural antibiotic and is particularly useful against east and other infections. It also helps persons with allergies and breathing problems.
Parsley contains compounds that can inhibit tumor growth.
Dill contains compounds known to neutralize cancer-causing toxins.
Thyme contains an oil that can protect the brain against some of the effects of aging.
Rosemary is believed to increase circulation to the brain.
Basil can help regulate blood pressure.
Peppermint soothes nausea and indigestion and it’s a powerful natural antibiotic.
Oregano is a powerful antibiotic.
These herbs are all fairly safe but exotic and unusual herbs may sometimes cause reactions because you’re body isn’t used to them.
