my personal trainer said something once that made me laugh but simultaneously reflect. she’s a Muslim woman, and she has been married to a revert brother for seven years now. when she came home one day and they were both sitting together on their kitchen table picking at their meal, she brought up something she had learnt a few days prior, that in Jannah your spouse will appear to you in whatever form you desire.
and so she tells him this. and she begins to describe how she wants him to look. ‘i want you to have Beckham’s eyes and hair like young DiCaprio, and the physique of such and such’ she goes on and on in great length and detail. her husband remains silent. and then she finally asks him, ‘what about you?’
his reply is so instant. ‘you. just as you are.’
she rolls her eyes at this, thinking he can’t be serious, ‘come on, tell me. how would you like me to look?’ she goes on to listing various women, who by society's standards might be considered the height of beauty.
but her husband’s answer remains the same. ‘i want to see you
exactly as I see you now.’
subahanallah
it made me think- you know someone really loves you when they wouldn’t add, subtract or change a thing about you. and you know you really love someone, when out of all the people you could be within Jannah...you just want to be with them.
