Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Where do you go from the last movie? You go to the nitty gritty, why people loved spider man before the MCU truly a return to the Essence of Spiderman.

Peter is losing it, the isolation of being forgotten and having to see your loved ones move on with out you it does something to you and to Peter it’s causing hormone spikes, his senses are heightening and he doesn’t know how to deal with it. He is so miserable at the beginning of this movie and it is so amazing to watch. It really is Spider-Man again struggling Spider-Man without the benefactor, Tony Stark, which was a beautiful relationship, but this is a reset in his story Marvel gave the people what they wanted a Spider-Man for the people who deals with the small potatoes, not Thanos. And while he’s having this breakdown of identity, who else would show up? but Jean Grey in all of her glory to have her step foot in the MCU is a step in the right direction. I won’t spoil it too much more, but Sadie Sink was amazing in this role. Tom Holland is finally Spider-Man. 

Now to some of my favs bits having Frank Castle in this is amazing having him bicker with Spider-Man is hilarious. I loved it so much. The needle drops in this movie were fucking amazing from Tame Impala to Bad Bunny sound was locked in here. I do think you could tell that Tom Holland was hamming the New York accent up a lot, but I loved it. 

The moral of the story really is to not isolate yourself, they drive it in again and again as the police chief tries to tell Peter to relax to take a break to take care of himself, but when everyone forgot who Peter was, he really locked in and was just Spider-Man even Jean Gray could tell that he was having this dilemma of not knowing. But even after isolating himself, Mj was still in danger it didn’t matter how he tried to keep her away. And as he saving the last bit of Peter in the final battle with Jean Grey he realizes he is Peter Parker and he is Spider-Man he embraces everything that comes with being Spider-Man and finally embraces the DNA he was trying to fight. then he gets shot by Frank because Frank never fucking learn shoot first ask questions later but you gotta love him.

June Gloom

I know we're at the end of July but here are my pride month watches of LGBT Movies.

Happy Pride, June Gloom in SoCal is to describe our weather during this time, but also a feeling I got when watching queer films. There were a lot of screenings of LGBT films this year. Many made me sad when leaving, some made me yearn for Italy, and some did make me laugh. The one fault in my screening and maybe a little bit of my own fault but most did have to do with men so at home I did also try to watch WLW and saw “Cruel Intentions” which had a kiss I had heard about but no lesbianism. Sad. I might have to rewatch “But I’m a Cheerleader” again and maybe feel a little less gloomy!

Below the cut are 4.5 Reviews of Gay movies I saw this month 4 of them first time watches.

I set off to add some wlw to this and only ⅓ was actually about a lesbian but even in that it didn’t save her from the fate of almost all gay films and that is a sad ending. Gia, a movie about the life of Gia Carangi staring Angelina Jolie, What I loved about this film is that she just was, in the sense that it wasn’t about her struggle and strife in accepting being a lesbain, but she was one and unapologetic about it and we spend the film following her struggles with drug addiction which leads to her contraction of AIDS, that leads to her death. Never once does she have a man try to change her, you have T.J. who at the beginning ask her out and moves to new york with her and he still gets it when she doesn’t sleep with him saying in a response if she had ever slept with a man “Nothing I couldn’t get from a german shepard” and that’s that he still loves her and shows up when she’s sick. She makes her amends before she goes but she was always Gia.

Continuing on movies based on real people I watch “Milk” and this one really made me feel so depressed. It's tragic like most gay stories are but in our current political climate even more so because we take an inch and they just kill you. The only way my weekend got better was the fact that Nithya Ramon made it to the run off election, but after also recently watching Judas and the Black Messiah this sent me into a bit of a depressive spiral because a year after taking office as the first openly gay elected official in the united states he gets killed.  I do think his story is one of resilience because he didn’t win on his first try. It took a few and it also took building community with other minorities in San Francisco, to listen and help each other while Milk kept his word and so did the people he helped, and in turn they voted him into office. He only served for a year but his impact was felt.

Next a classic that I had to be SAT for was Call me By Your Name, I won’t wax too much poetic on this because a lot of it has been already said but at risk of sounding like a new gen poser, I watch this film for the first time in 2022 because when it came out I was in the camp of this is problematic and the age gap is wrong and it shouldn’t be promoted. What changed? I grew up and met a lot more gay people and lived more and this movie is tragic and sad because what happened to Elio happens to a lot of people hell at 20 I lost my virginity to a 33 year old that’s a story for another day. It’s tragic because Elio is just figuring himself out and Oliver knows what he’s doing and he knows that when he goes home this will be over while Elio hopes and hopes for a return that is never going to happen and is crushed by the news of the wedding, set to a beautiful sound track by Sufjan Stevens, and a gorgeous location somewhere in northern Italy the film is beautifully tragic, I have the book on my list.

Next up we have Leviticus, A horror film set in Australia. I think this one was great and very original as the non-denominational church are the ones to invoke a demon(?) or evil on to these gay kids and it takes into account the old "You can be gay, just don't act on it" because the entity turns into the person you have feelings for a baits you into interacting/ doing something physical with them and then kills you. the whole thing though is it only shows up when you are alone. What kills really is that the families understand what they are doing to their children but say that this is to keep them safe, even though it is actively leading to there demise because there is no killing this creature. It ends on an open note but the looming notion that the main couple of boys in the film even after trapping and burning the entity and running away from there families that this thing will follow them.

My final gay movie was …….To Wong Fu, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newman. Now this one is a fun film, an absolute great watch seeing three great actors get up and spend most of this movie in drag. This one has a happy ending! I also think the casting is so important for the time Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo these are huge names doing this drag roadtrip movie and taking it seriously breathing life into these characters that you want to see succeeded because in the movie they help this whole town, with a new perspective on what drag is but also not changing who they are at the core just having them see that they can do things in a slightly different fashion. Great Movie and I do have to give a shout to the Rupaul cameo as a drag queen called Rachel Tensions, I was cackling.

It is my fault for not you know, reading synopsis or summaries or reviews and not really paying attention when people talk about the movies… Because I’ve seen two movies this month thinking they were lesbian/wlw/at least biwomen movies and one was just like an old teen movie, and the second was a fucking psychological thriller ….. gonna Google lesbian movie so I can watch one that I haven’t seen for sure

I watched ‘perfect blue’ thinking it was a lesbian movie because I was gonna write about the gay movies I saw this month and I was like oh let me get in a lesbian film and no it was not gay, but I think it was the best movie I saw this month def gonna write about it

At first, I thought Kenzie and Corbin were annoying, but honestly yeah fuck it if the other two people are not pulling for a chat who cares Like ???? if Caleb isn’t pulling Aniya or Jen or Trin that’s on him…..Mel too hung up on sincere and is using the fact that Corbin has a connection w/ Kenzie as an excuse to curb him like this is not Closed off Islandddd
