When Darth Vader opened his eyes, he saw light.
Squinting, he raised his hand to his face to block out the brightness.
Vader gasped, dropping his hand in disbelief. Was his hand⌠flesh?
Vader noticed the silence. Ever since Mustafar, he hadnât heard pure silence, only mechanical breathing.
His hand flew to his throat, his fingers digging into his neck as he felt unburned skin.
Tears welled up in his eyes.
He was Anakin again.
He tried to figure out why he was 22 year-old Anakin again after years of being Darth Vader, nobody but the Emperor's looming attack dog.
Anakin wracked his brain, thinking of a reason as to why this was happening. Was it a dream?
The last thing he remembered was Luke, his son, dragging him away from the Emperor's lifeless body and removing his helmet. He smiled for the first time at his son, and thenâŚ
Oh.
He was dead.
He went to tug on his braid to calm himself, a habit he picked up in his padawan years before remembering it wasnât there, and hadnât been for 26 years.
Anakin resorted to fiddling with his fingers, not knowing exactly what to do now that he was dead. They didnât exactly prepare him for it as a child.
Just as he was about to come up with a solution to the unknown problem, he heard a familiar, comforting voice.
âHello there.â
Anakin spun around with alarming speed, and almost sobbed at what he saw.
Obi-Wan, his Obi-Wan, standing there, looking just as he did when he was 38, before Anakin turned to the Dark Side and wrecked it all.
Anakin choked back his cry, trying to remain composed. âObi-Wan? Is it really you?â
Obi-Wan lightly laughed, the sound clearing Anakinâs head of all noisy doubts. âYes, it is me, Dear One.â
Tears did flood his eyes at that oh so special nickname, reserved for him only.
âObi-Wan!â Anakin rushed at his old master, launching himself into his arms.
He no longer held back his sons as he cried into Obi-Wanâs chest, relishing in the way Obi-Wan lovingly held him in a way he didnât know he missed until he had it again.
âI- Iâm sorry. I'm so sorry, master.â
Obi-Wan shushed him, pulling Anakin away from his chest to tenderly hold his face in his hands. âThere is nothing to be sorry for, my love.â
Anakin choked on his words, stuttering out, âBut I- I killed so many people- How can you say that?â
Obi-Wan smoothed his hair and kissed his forehead. âYes you did. But you are here now. You redeemed yourself. I forgive you, Dearheart.â
Anakin stared, pulling away from Obi-Wan to wipe his eyes with the sleeves of his Jedi robe he didnât even realize he had until that moment.
âYou shouldnât forgive me though. I hurt so many, I killed you, I blew up a planet, I-â
â-Donât say that.â Obi-Wanâs voice was fire, but not mean. He could never be mean to Anakin.
Anakin scoffed, âWhy not? you and I both know itâs true I donât deserve it.â
Obi-Wan softened. âDear one, you have redeemed yourself. You found the good left in you, the Anakin left in you, and defeated Palpatine. You brought balance to the Force, like I knew you would from the moment I met you. I love you, Ani.â
Anakin felt his sobs returning, and leaned forward to kiss his love for the first time in 23 years.
âI love you too, Angel.â
The Force was bright that night, as it rejoiced a reunion of lost lovers.

Obi-Wan awoke to a loud clang, followed by an only slightly quieter âfuck!â coming from the kitchen. He reached out across the bed, searching for Anakin's warmth but being met with cold sheets.Â
Obi-Wan slipped out of bed and headed to the kitchen, suppressing a smile at the sight before him.
Anakin was holding Luke against his chest with one arm, while simultaneously trying to stir something on the stove. He was rocking back and forth slowly as he stirred, to try and keep the one year old boy from crying. Obi-Wan faked a cough, causing Anakin to startle and look up at him. âObi-Wan!â
Obi-Wan chuckled. âGood morning, my love. Would you like some help?â
Anakin nodded, and moved to hand Luke to Obi-Wan, stealing a kiss from the older man in the process. âCan you also go get Leia up while I finish breakfast.â
âOf course, angel,â Obi-Wan said, kissing Anakin again before heading with Luke to the twinsâ room.Â
Leia was still fast asleep in her crib. Obi-Wan assumed Luke had woken up way too early, causing Anakin to wake up and stay with him.Â
He gently picked the baby girl up from her crib, holding her with one arm while the other held her now asleep brother.Â
âGood morning, princess. Daddy made breakfast, letâs go see him.â
Leia, who was barely conscious, rubbed at her eyes.Â
Obi-Wan carried the babies back to the kitchen, where Anakin had finished cooking and was pouring the food into dishes.Â
The minute she saw her Daddy, Leia squirmed in Obi-Wanâs hold and reached her little hands towards Anakin.
Anakin chuckled, and set down the pot of what Obi-Wan realized to be oatmeal in order to take Leia.Â
Luke shifted, and Obi-Wan thought he was waking up, but the boy just snuggled closer to Obi-Wan and went still again. He was growing concerned with Lukeâs sleeping problems, and was beginning to consider a doctor's visit in their near future.
âAni, my love, do you think we should take Luke to a doctor about his sleeping issues? His sleep schedule hasnât been the best for a while now and-â
Anakin cut Obi-Wan off. âOf course, Obi. On my next day off I can take him.â He shifted Leia on his hip. âBut right now, letâs eat.â
He brought their bowls to the table, and sat down with Leia on his knee, slowly bringing bites of the oatmeal to her mouth. Obi-Wan sat down across from him, and began to eat with Luke still curled up sleeping on his chest.
And as Obi-Wan looked up at Anakin and his family., illuminated by the early morning sun, he couldnât be happier.

The gentle light filtering through the window stirred Obi-Wan to conciseness. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he sat up and tried to climb out of bed only to find out he couldnât.
Glancing down, Obi-Wan noticed Anakin tightly clinging to him in his sleep.
Softening, Obi-Wan settled back down. He could stay with his love for a little bit longer.
Now settled into bed, Obi-Wan held Anakin as he moved closer to Obi-Wan, sensing his presence and seeking after it. Obi-Wan kissed his forehead, and buried his face in Anakin's curls.Â
The hours wore away as Obi-Wan traced the myriad of freckles and battle scars on Anakinâs bare golden skin as he waited for the younger one to wake up.
Abruptly groaning, Anakin awoke and pulled his head away from Obi-Wan's chest, choosing instead to roll onto his back, laying his head on Obi-Wan's stomach and looking at him upside down.
âGood morning, dear one,â Obi-Wan said, cupping Anakin's cheek with one hand while tracing the bridge of his nose with the other.
âMorninâ, Obi,â Anakin slurred, giggling like a small child when Obi-Wan brushed a stray curl away from his face.Â
Obi-Wanâs heart melted at the sight. Anakin had been through so much in his years of life, and seeing him be so outwardly happy and affectionate made Obi-Wanâs heart soar.
The two Jedi laid in silence, Obi-Wan playing with Anakin's hair as Anakin took the time to fully woke up.
Anakin turned again, shifting around so he could bury his face in the crook of Obi-Wanâs neck.
Anakin pressed gentle kisses to Obi-Wanâs skin, working his way up to his jaw⌠then his cheek⌠then his lipsâŚ
Obi-Wan sighed into their kiss, and gathered Anakin in his arms to pull him even closer.
Anakin pulled away smiling, and leaned forward to kiss Obi-Wanâs nose. Obi-Wan grinned and pulled Anakin in for another kiss.Â
Pulling away, Obi-Wan moved his hands down to Anakinâs sides to rest them on his hips. âKriff⌠You're so beautiful, Ani.â
Flushing, Anakin looked away. âMaster-â
âIâm not your master anymore, my love, you donât need to call me that. I know you have your qualms about the term as well.â
Anakin nodded, burying his face back under Obi-Wanâs chin. Obi-Wan chuckled and moved to press a kiss behind Anakinâs ear.
Anakin gasped and sat up, playfully pouting at the older man. âYou know I'm sensitive there.â
Obi-Wan raised an eyebrow. âReally? I didnât know you were. Maybe I'll have to test it again!â
He flipped their positions so he was on top, caging Anakin against him as he repeatedly kissed behind Anakinâs ear.
Out of breath, Obi-Wan smiled to himself at the sight of Anakin giggling, his hair splayed out around him in a halo. Reaching a delicate finger out, he began to trace the scars on Anakinâs chest.
Anakin stilled, letting Obi-Wan gently trace over his top surgery scars.
âYouâre so damn beautiful,â Obi-Wan said. âI never want to stop looking at you.
Flopping onto the bed beside Anakin, he gathered the Knight into his arms. Already becoming sleepy again, Obi-Wan kissed Anakinâs brow.
âWe need to get up soon, Obi,â Anakin yawned as he tucked himself into Obi-Wanâs body.
âWe will later, love. Right now I just want to hold you.â

i.
The first time it happens, Anakin is nineteen years old. The Clone Wars had just begun and were in full swing, meaning Obi-Wan was currently off planet on a mission. And maybe Anakin missed him. Just a little bit.
Groaning as he flopped onto his bed in the Temple, Anakinâs thoughts strayed to Obi-Wan.Â
As much as he hated to admit it, he missed his former master.Â
As he turned on some random Holovid, he grabbed some spare parts and began to tinker with them.
After a while, he began to shiver. He wrapped himself up in his blankets and internally cursed being raised on Tatooine.Â
Anakin turned off the Holovid with a grumble, pulling his blankets even closer to him. ForceâŚhe really missed Obi-Wan.
Developing an idea, Anakin slowly stood up out of bed and inched his way towards Obi-Wanâs room. Opening the door, he found what he was looking for.Â
Now sat on the couch, Anakin wrapped himself in one of Obi-Wanâs cloaks, reveling in the warmth and comfort it brought. What Obi-Wan didnât know wouldnât hurt him.
ii.
The second time it happens, Anakin is twenty. The two had been stationed on an ice planet in the outer rim, and their tent was cold. And Anakin knew he wasnât just being dramatic this time.Â
He sat on his cot in his and Obi-Wanâs tent, resisting the urge to complain. He had only recently been knighted, and wanted to show that he was capable of going on missions.
Anakinâs eyes skimmed the Datapad in his hands, trying to pretend he was reading the mission plans, when suddenly it was pulled away from him.
Anakinâs head shot up. âObi-Wan!â
âNow now dear one, I donât think youâre in any shape to be working on mission plans right now,â Obi-Wan said, closing the Datapad.
âMaster-â
âIâm not your master anymore, Ani. Please get some sleep.â
Anakin grumbled but did as he was told. Burying himself under the thin blankets, as he tried to let sleep take him.
After a few hours of nothing happening, he sat up. By now Obi-Wan was asleep, and Anakin took notice of the cloak set on the edge of Obi-Wanâs cot.Â
Since Obi-Wan didnât notice the first time, surely he wouldnât this time either.
Silently grabbing the cloak, he pulled it on over his nightclothes, inhaling the distinctly Obi-Wan scent.
Surely Obi-Wan wouldnât know.
iii.
The third time it happens, Anakin is twenty-one. Itâs his nameday, and since heâs finally hit the legal age of drinking on Tatooine, Obi-Wan decided to take him out to one of the clubs on Coruscant.Â
Hours later, drunk and slumped over the bar, Anakin suddenly felt warmth flood through his bond with Obi-Wan. Raising his head, he tried to look at the older man.
âOh dear one,â Obi-Wan laughed. Smoothing some of Anakinâs hair off his forehead. âAre you alright?â
ââS bright,â Anakin grumbled.
He heard a laugh, before something warm was slung around him and he was being lifted into a standing position.Â
He stumbled forward, the only thing stopping his fall being Obi-Wanâs reflexes. He heard voices, not quite making out what they were saying, before something was pressed into his hand.
âDrink this, Ani.â
Sniffing at it, Anakin assumed it was water and downed half the glass in one gulp. As he became more into it, he registered that he was being held up by Obi-Wan, and that the warm thing surrounding him was Obi-Wanâs cloak.Â
He pulled away from Obi-Wan enough that he could wrap the cloak right around him, vaguely realizing he would regret this in the morning as Obi-Wan half carried half dragged him back to the Jedi Temple.
iv.
The fourth time it happens, Anakin is twenty-two. Him and Obi-Wan are fighting, about what he canât remember. All he knows is that he really hated Obi-Wan being mad at him.
He began to zone out, not having the mental capacity to listen any longer. Obi-Wan stopped talking with a sigh.
âI can see youâre not even listening. Iâm gonna go meditate and after I'm back we can continue,â Obi-Wan had said as he left their quarters.Â
Now here Anakin was, curled up on the couch trying not to cry.Â
Pressing the palm of his hand into his eyes, he sniffled.Â
âForceâŚWhy am I even crying?â
Anakin knew he wanted the comfort of his former master, but unfortunately Obi-Wan wasnât there and was mad at him.
Suppressing a sob, Anakin made his way to Obi-Wan's room. He didnât have to dig around much to find it- Obi-Wan's cloak.
Wrapping himself in the material, he sat on the couch and curled into its warmth.Â
Inhaling the scent of Obi-Wan on the fabric, he let a few tears slip out of his eyes.Â
Why was everything so hard?
+ i.
Obi-Wan opened the door to his and Anakinâs quarters, trying to be as quiet as possible. He did feel bad for yelling at Anakin like that and wanted to make sure his former padawan knew.
âAni? Ani, where are you?â
Obi-Wan shut his mouth as soon as he saw the sight before him.
Anakin, curled up like a loth-cat, in⌠was that Obi-Wanâs cloak?
Sitting down on the arm of the couch, Obi-Wan reached out to run his fingers through Anakinâs sandy hair.
At the feeling, Anakin stirred and sat up. ââbi-wan?â
Obi-Wan resisted the urge to smile. âYes, dear one?â
Anakin yawned. âI missed you. Iâm sorry I upset you.â
Obi-Wan chuckled, âItâs alright, darling. I've calmed down now, Iâm sorry I got so angry at you.â
Leaning down to cup Anakinâs cheek, Obi-Wan smiled again. âIs that my cloak?â
Anakin sat up, suddenly alert. âIâm sorry! I shouldnât have stolen it, you can have it back-â
Obi-Wan cut off Anakin by laughing fondly. âItâs alright, darling. It looks cute on you. May I ask though, why are you wearing it?â
Anakin began to fidget, playing with the sleeves on the oversized cloak. âI donât know, I just felt like I needed comfort from you but you were mad and not here so I just took your cloakâŚâ
Obi-Wan chuckled, and moved his other hand to hold Anakinâs face. He leaned in, making sure to go slow enough Anakin could pull away at any time. Hovering over Anakinâs lips, he asked,
âIs this okay?â
Anakin nodded, and took the final step to connect their lips.
The kiss was short and sweet, and Anakin pulled away looking dazed.
âI love you, Ani.â
âI love you too, Obi-Wan.â
Maybe Obi-Wan knowing about Anakin taking his cloak wasn't so bad.
