Automate

"Automation is going to hit this planet like a maglev bullet train going full speed and loaded with bricks.

Unless the government gets their shit together we are looking at mass unemployment the likes of which you have never seen. You see that post on California fast-tracking self-driving cars? Let me tell you why that is.

There are 5 million truck drivers in the USA getting paid more than $60,000/year. That's 300 BLLION per year in labor costs just begging to be cut. Google's self-driving car is going to obliterate those jobs.

As soon as companies like Fed Ex figure out how to replace you for half the cost, your job is fucking toast. Sure, if this was going to happen slowly like the industrial revolution we could have time to retrain people and allow new industries to emerge. But there won’t be any time because the jobs are going to start vanishing at super speeds.

Boom: all the cashiers are replaced with automated kisosks. Bang: all the taxi drivers, delivery drivers, and long-haul truckers are replaced with automated cars. Millions and millions of people now competing for more jobs that are years away from getting automated. You’ll go back to college only to find that when you get out there aren’t any jobs.

All the money and thus all the power is going to end up in the hands of a very small group of people. CEOs, and investors.

You think your job is safe? Anesthesiologists are lobbying like crazy to keep machines from taking their job. Anesthesi-fuckin-ologists: one of the highest paid, highest skill-cap professions.

As time goes on and nothing is done, it’s not the minimum wage that’s going to worsen. It will be the working conditions. Benefits will vanish, shifts will get longer, your store will now be open 24 hours, and you won’t get a raise. Illegal shit will happen to you, but what are you going to do? Quit? You quit and you starve.

We need to start organizing some serious protests because people are already not getting paid a living wage and it’s only going to get worse. It’s short-sighted to say “I have a family, I can’t protest, I’ll lose my job!” The loss of your job is practically inevitable. If you’re not straight up replaced by a machine, the competition for your job is going to get so intense, old-age will catch up to you, and the next generation will pave you the fuck over.

They will never give us a living wage or a basic income. We have to take it. I’m not afraid to throw bricks and neither should you. We have as much of a right to survival as the oligarchs do."

We sit at a unique point in history.

The rise of the Internet, and of Computer Technology have contributed to an unparalleled rate of prosperity for the first world.

We have created for ourselves an empire like no other, a global network of trade and constant communication.

This is a new age of technological advancement.  We have come a long way from our humble roots in the industrial revolution and the days of manifest destiny.

We're now pioneers in new digital frontiers, expanding our domain from the quantum world to the far reaches of space.

And yet the empire faces a crisis.

A global recession, growing poverty, rampant violence, and corruption in politics as well as threats to personal freedom, and the destruction of our planet, our home.

As it was before in other times of crisis, the old stories have begun to repeat themselves.

The half truths, this time repeated nightly on cable news and echoed through a series of tubes onto the Internet, are as pervasive as ever.

The empire is strong.

People think that change is unwise, that business as usual is the answer, but it is not.

In times of insecurity there are those who seek to add to the confusion,prey on our insecurities and fears.  Those who would seek to keep us divided for their own gain.

The effective strategy takes many unique forums.

Liberals, conservatives, independents, blacks, whites, Christians, Muslims, saved, and sinner.

But something unexpected is happening.

We have begun telling each other our own stories, sharing our lives, our hopes, our dreams, and our demons.

Every single second, day in and day out, the gritty details are streaming around the world.

As we see the lives of others played out in our living rooms we're beginning to understand the consequences of our actions, and the error of the old ways.  We're questioning the old assumptions that we are made to consume, not create, that the world is for our taking, that war is inevitable, that poverty is unavoidable.

As we learn more about our global community, a fundamental truth has been discovered.

We are not so different.

Every human has strengths, weaknesses, and emotions.

We crave love, laughter, and fear being alone.  We dream of a better life.

You must create this life.

You cannot sit on the couch watching television, playing video games, or waiting for a revolution.  You are the revolution.

Ever read time you choose not to exercise your rights, every time you get into someone else's viewpoint, every time you spend a dollar at a business that does not pay a fair wage, you are contributing to the problem, which is the oppression of the human body, and of the human mind.  You have a choice.

You have a choice to take the easy path, the familiar path as it has become.  

Or you can go outside and talk to your neighbor, to come together in new forums to create lasting, meaningful change for the human race.

The revolution must take hold as the peaceful one.  We must build our strength through ideas, and ingenuity, and creativity.

We must tear down the barriers that have existed to this day only because we allow them to.

After all, politics alone has not put protesters into the streets. The tipping point for so many people is the more constant concern of putting food on the table and providing for a family. Too many in the region wake up with few expectations other than making it through the day, and perhaps the hope that their luck will change.Throughout the region, many young people have a solid education, but closed economies leave them unable to find a job. Entrepreneurs are brimming with ideas, but corruption leaves them unable to profit from them.

Whether or not we agree that anything at all in modern society needs to be changed, we must at least come to understand that the occupiers are not just another political movement, nor are they simply lazy kids looking for an excuse not to work. Rather, they see the futility of attempting to use the tools of a competitive, winner-takes-all society for purposes that might better be served through the tools of mutual aid. This is not a game that someone wins, but rather a form of play that is successful the more people get to play, and the longer the game is kept going.

As the Arab Spring turns into the “American Fall” and becomes a world-wide movement to bring down international bankers on an international scale, it is important that it is not co-opted by the powers that be and remains a movement of the people, by the people, for the people. we intend to help with this in any way we can.

For the past few weeks I have been very sick with viral bronchitis. I have no insurance and have not been able to afford treatment, so I’ve just been waiting to get better. Luckily, I have, and I am ready to commit my full abilities to the good of the cause, not just through cyberspace, but in person.

I apologize for the secrecy surrounding the @OccupyEarth account, but the importance and immediacy of the cause behooves me to remain anonymous for the time being. This movement is not about me. I do not claim or aspire to be the leader of anything.

The truth is that YOU, occupiers, have been a great inspiration to me. All the misanthropic assholes of the world could not convince me of their opinions at this point.
