So I am super late doing these tumblr post because I have been way to focused doing my writing so here is a recap of my process… So the first thing I did after reading my book was rejoice because I finished the first step of this long process. Then I went to the OU library and that was an experience! I walked in and had no clue what I was doing so I went to the librarian, which was a college student not an old lady like I expected, and I told her I was a high school student needing a computer so she gave a guest login and password. I went on the computer and couldn’t figure out to get on the internet like to look things up which sounds super easy but it was difficult. Once I figured that out I found my criticisms no problem I just needed to print them out. I went back up to the librarian and she told me to go to the tech guy and he will know. Well when I went and asked him he was a jerk and was talking to me like I was stupid. So after he helped me I printed all of my criticisms and ran out of the library as fast as I could!

Reading the work seven

I have finished The Lovely Bones and I really liked it. It had a few elements of murder mystery, it got into the killers brain a little bit which is interesting to me, we got to see how family deals with death, and got a little glimpse into heaven which I thought really gave the book it's edge. It was a really good book to read and I would recommend it to others. I am interested to see now what my criticisms have to say about The Lovely Bones.

Reading the work six

From page 211 the book is just more about the families lives and then getting closer to closure. But on page 300 she writes something that I am not quite sure if I like. Two of her friends are visiting this sink hole that is being filled in but it just so happens that that is where her killer buried her. One friend feels her presence there and she passes out and Susie ends up coming back to life in her friends body and spending a few hours with her guy friend who she also loves. It just doesn't make much sense to me like obviously that would never happen but like I jut don't get what it represents or what Sebold is trying to say with writing that into the story.

The Tribe that has no Tribe

After thinking very long and very hard about my tribe and who is apart of my tribe I realized that I was apart of a tribe, the tribe that has no tribe. In class today when my classmates were trying to help me think of something that I really liked or was apart of and I had nothing for them. There was nothing that I could identify myself with. I am just a 17 year old girl in high school trying to figure out my place. And everyone in my tribe is doing the same. We are all different kinds of people tall, small, popular, lame, and everything in between. This is a temporary tribe I like to think because one day I hope to find a tribe that I fit into but right now I am in the tribe that has no tribe. This tribe is not a bad place to be in though we help each other try to figure out where we belong.

Reading the work five

When I got to page 211 then flipped the page the chapter wasn't numbered like normal it said snapshot not seventeen like it should of been. I was really curious to read this chapter because it was right after what I would say is the climax of the book. What this chapter ended up being was just a snapshot of the family lives for the past eight years or so. I thought it was really interesting how Sebold did it this was because it doesn't make the book super action packed and interesting but it really shows how death effects family. They never forget it is always in their minds effects their lives.

My bedroom is my querencia. It might be super basic but it is true. This is the place where I go whenever I am home which sometime isn't often but after a long day I always end up here. This is where I start and end my day. It is where I do all my homework. It is where I relax and watch Netflix. I am also very protective over it whenever anyone in my family comes in my room it isn't long before I kick them out. This is my quiet space where I come to think which during a hectic day is hard to find so it is nice knowing I always have it there for me.

Reading the work four

After reading 100 pages more the book is really starting to heat up. The family is getting closer to catching the killer yet they are so far. You are learning so much more about the killers past and getting into his brain which I find so interesting. The wife is having an affair with the cop to try to forget about here daughter and her life with out her with adds a juice aspect to the book. Things are starting to connect together from what I read earlier in the book. With 130 pages left I am wishing there were more.

Reading the work three Text to text connection Last year I read this book for one of my ap Lang projects. This book is about how American deals with death. It looks at old people,sick people, and even compare it to other cultures around the world. When I was reading Lovely Bones this book popped in my head because that is basically what the Lovely Bones is talking about. It shows you how family's as a whole deal with death, how spouses deal with death and how marriages can fall apart, how siblings deal with death, and how your community around you deals with the death.

Now that I am reading Ceremony and Lovely Bones I need to stay focused. I know myself and I know that I can get very distracted very easily. I would either forget to read one or just read one and forget what's going on in the other book. So last time I was scrolling through tumblr I saw Maryia's idea of getting on a reading schedule and thought it was a great idea. I did the math for my book and I would have to read eleven pages a day to finish it by March 14th, which is the day soccer starts, which is very very doable. So now every day I dedicate time to read eleven pages from Lovely Bones.

Ceremony

Okay so I hate poems. Now there are ransoms poems thrown in the middle of this book. It really adds on to the confusion of this book and makes it that much harder to read. But when I stepped back and look at the poems to me it looked like Silko was using them as transitions or even to bring out the main themes. When you read the poems you get a theme and that is what the next section is about. I still do not enjoy these poems at all and never will but I do understand them.

Ceremony

I think I am with a lot people on this when I say that the start of this is very rough. This book has been very hard for me to start reading. All the flashbacks have me all mixed up with what is present and past. I haven't really started to see any of the themes or real point of the book yet. This for sure is a harder read the Handmaids Tale. But I am hoping that it will get better and clearer as I read on.

Reading the work one

I am a little behind on starting my posts. I started my book about a week or two ago and have gotten about hundred pages into it. I really don’t know what to think or say about The Lovely Bone yet. It’s not that it’s a bad book at all I haven’t want to dig my eyes out or anything while reading but it’s not like it’s a page turner or anything. I have heard many great things about the book and that is part of the reason I wanted to read it I just hope it gets a little more interesting once I get a little farther into the book.

The end

I walked in to the book store with my list. I went to the fiction section, it is organized by authors last name so I went down my list reading the backs of the book and seeing if they sound interesting or not. If it did I would go on my phone and look up if they had criticisms. I spent about an hour doing this before I finally decided on the Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

These conversations that we had with each women group has been very interesting. Everything that I have though about the women has flipped. I have thought that the handmaids were the victim which I still to think but only to a point. When they were up there answering questions they had to answer a lot of questions about why they wouldn't just join together and break free. They have the most power don't they? I thought that is was so interesting to think that way.

Commander Wives

Today listening to the commander wives speak really opened my eyes. I always thought of the commanders wives as almost an evil character especially Serena joy. She treats offered in a very evil way. Plus they are the ones that wanted the society to be like this any ways but it turns out they regret it. They don't have connect with anyone just like all the other characters in the book and even though they are higher up in the society they still have little to no connection. Really no one not even the men in the book have a connection. I think that it shows how important human connection is and how you have to work on those relationships all the time and there is more then just one part to that connection and I think that is shown very well through the commanders wives.

Picking the Work part two

Right when Kreinbring posted the list of books on google classroom I went and looked at it just to see what my classmates chose. When I looked at the list I saw my book I freaked out a little but then I was like it will be fine that is in a different hour it will be no big deal. Oh but it was ! No one could have the same book! I tried to argue it for a little but it didn’t work. I had a list of books that I was looking at before so I decided to go to the bookstore and spend some time there.

Jezebels

Today in class it was the Jezebels turn to get up on stage and answer the classes questions. In the book the handmaids tale the Jezebels are the picture of freedom, they have escaped being a handmaid and can now spend there days free but nights are spent pleasing the men. The Jezebels got up there and said basically that there life wasn't perfect but hey they had at least a little bit of freedom more then anyone else can say. Now everyone instantly pushed back on that but I agreed with them. Then we started to compare the Jezebels to basically strippers and then we were comparing strippers to models and how closely or not closely related those two groups of people are. Now I disagree I don't think that the Jezebels are like strippers at all I think they represent something different. I related it to teenage girls. They are always looking for an inch or freedoms from something and when they get it they look and see sometimes it wasn't always that great. But even if it wasn't this helps them grow as people and live their lives to the fullest. Just like the Jezebles were telling us in class today at least they lived there lives the best the could, there were trying.
