So I was going through the Monty tag and I was really surprised that a lot of people were shocked by Hannah’s actions. That’s when I realize, ‘Duh Jen most of the people have never been refugees and fled their country’ There’s a lot of things about the writing of the 100 that I will tear apart viciously and call simply lazy writing this was not it so please don’t call it so. This scene was actually once again one of the times that the 100 captured the reality of war’s perfectly. Because this is what happens in Wars, families are torn apart due to their ideologies. I grew up the grand daughter of a War Hero, someone who is known through the entire capital and my city. But my parents both sided with the rebellion even if they never uttered a word. And it all came to a head one night when my grandfather stormed in screaming to my mother about their betrayal. I remember him just grabbing her and shaking her and calling her so stupid saying we needed to leave now. Because him and several of my Uncles had suspected for months, but they finally had intercepted a letter from my mom. And there he was this man who was so broken and didn’t know what to do, he said he was buying us time that he had told them that he was coming to arrest my parents. And so we fled a full day before we were set to leave, and I’ll never forget what he said to my Mom as we left. She was crying telling him how much she loved him and he just said with this stone face “You’re my daughter and I won’t let you die.” But the entire time he thought she was doing the wrong thing HE DID NOT agree with her decisions. So no the scene with Monty and his mom wasn’t lazy writing. It was fascinating. It was real. It was war. Because I don’t doubt Hannah loves her son. I believe her tears were genuine. I believe that the thought of losing Monty is something that would haunt her. But Hannah is not sorry for what she has done she believes herself to be making the right decisions. She believes in her cause. And with that also comes that she believes that her little boy is perhaps just a bit misguided. So what does she do, she wagers with Pike. I’ll betray my son but you have to guarantee his safety. It’s intelligent, it’s what many people would have done in that situations. She uses what she can to keep him safe even if it will mean her hating him. Because Monty may be a traitor, but he is her son. Also a lot of you could use the argument she could have fled with Monty. But that goes out the window when you realize that she doesn’t believe what Monty is doing is correct. Her leaving would have robbed her of her agency as a character and simply written her as a devoted parent. But people are forgetting that parent’s in real life aren’t always completely devoted to their children. And I think Monty needed to face this betrayal. He needed to see that his love for others particularly his Mother can’t get in the way of him doing what he believes is best. Because Monty I don’t think ever agreed with Pike but he pushed away his feelings and his morals for the person he loved (Also what an exact foil of what Nathan decided to do minty feels are strong over here) But yeah this scene was amazing and really hit home for me.
when jasper tells clarke that lincoln’s dead but all she cares about is the bullshit polis story line :/
