'Oda Lives' HC: Dazai refuses to touch Oda skin-to-skin in public, including handholding. He'd love to, really he would. Seriously, he bitches about not being able to constantly. But the close brush with Oda's death has left him traumatized and he refuses to compromise Oda's precognition.

The concession they both reach is just to stay connected by other means. If it's Dazai's turn to decide, then it'll be by a loop of his arm bandage fastened around Oda's wrist. Or a rope. Or maybe handcuffs if he's feeling extra funny. The sort of looks they get when they do their weekly shop are hilarious.

If it's Oda's turn to decide, they might have a nice little red string around both their wrists, or even pinky fingers. Y'know, symbolic, even if not always practical (it snaps on two occasions). Depending on the weather, he can also just get both of them gloves. The sensible option. Notably, he also puts Dazai in one of those full torso harness-and-leash kits one time, because Dazai kept running around the last time they went to the farmer's market and Oda had to chase after him and couldn't get any of what he liked. Bad.

They get to be connected in some way no matter what, and skin-to-skin can be a special thing when they get home.

#i usually don't ramble on this acc because it's more to compile odz fanworks for people to find easily but #yeah no odz is my favourite ship of all time. despite me honestly thinking that bsd is Not That Amazing #it's just the fact that Dazai is a functional psychopath who could have merrily lived his life in the mafia #overtaken Mori and become one of the most infamous monsters in history #but because Oda asked him not to he didn't #I don't know if any other character could have asked that of him #I've posted to this effect but I think he'd die for Atsushi and he'd of course kill for Chuuya #but he'd live for Oda. he'd try to be better for Oda. he'd make something of himself for Oda #my favourite version of them is one where Dazai is perhaps not capable of experiencing love in a typical way but Oda is the closest he gets #Oda is his world and he'd take him whichever way he could #familial platonic or romantic #so long as they were together and Oda was safe #i like them very much #Beast kills me #a lot of why Oda is so meaningful to Dazai is that Oda has this endless well of patience and has been through so much too #dazai was groomed to be a killer child and spent his formative years at risk and subsequently is jaded and warped?#yeah Oda too #but Oda instead of being a barrel of poorly held together issues is a calm kind guy who wants to live a normal happy life #and Dazai always had that opportunity through him #hypothetically at least #Dazai and Oda could have stayed together in hell and found happiness there #or they could have went together and lived in a little house by the sea and got normal jobs and been happy too #Oda is Dazai's home wherever they go #I'm going on and this is getting less coherent #weh
