@thecoffeeethic @askinosie @mothersbrewing collaborated on a decadent beer. "Rated R, a 11.5% Imperial Wheat stout emboldened by the addition of Askinosie Honduras cocoa nibs, Burundi cold brew coffee from the Coffee Ethic, and vanilla beans that we cut open and scraped out. The result is complex, rich, and dry. " We tip a glass to all the creative folks kicking ass in Springfield. And again, Tom Billionis, we miss you. We know you would not approve of us pouring out a little for you- you would rather we drink it!

During a day's layover in London, in a couple weeks, a visit to @thegentlemenbaristas is a must. This cut is a nod to them from across an ocean. Looking forward to making the acquaintance.

Gregory here, on why there are so many old men on our packaging. 

Mainly, old men have many lines that lend themselves well to my style of line work.  Women and children end up looking like old men anyway! 

However, as a personal challenge, I am including more fair- faced people into our line up. This way, you can witness the process, and hopefully see improvements as the cuts progress. 

This is an example of a challenge. In my estimation, only slightly Benjamin buttons-ified, this baby is the fairest of the cuts so far.  She's the newest member of the @longmilescoffee team. I look forward to meeting her in person in a few weeks. 

Here's to keeping the mistakes in the product (if no harm arrives from them) to learn from. Here's to wabi sabi & serendipity.

Hey there.  It’s been too long.  How about we talk about Burundi?  We have partnered with a community of farmers, whom are putting a lot of work and care into producing some of Burundi’s finest coffees.  

We met Ben Carlson in MPLS last fall.  He interviewed us to see if we had what it took to represent his project well.  We are thankful we passed the test.  He and his family have been laboring with a few thousand coffee farmers to increase the quality of the coffee, and in turn, the quality of life.  

Burundi coffee can be troublesome.  The aftereffects of a visit from an Antestia bug produce a most dissatisfying flavor in the cup.  You can smell it when it is ground, and sometimes before.  The undesirable characteristic is that of a raw and funky potato.  Long Miles Coffee Project producers have done a great job picking ripe fruit, as well as capturing the little bugs themselves. 

The cup characteristics of the coffees we purchased from the varying hills in their community have varied and complex elements.   We are continually blown away by the taste variance in coffee, found by relatively small differences in location and elevation.  It’s long been established that this effect exists, but it’s still no less amazing every time we taste it.  

We collaborated with Kristy J Carlson, Ben’s wife & mother of two boys, on the coffee packaging.  We have not visited their town yet, to take our own photos.  Kirsty was kind enough to share some of the photos she has taken.  They were excellent photos, and we wanted to pay respect to the folks in the picture, as well as to the art of the photographer.

Kansas City does have a pretty loving coffee community.  We are really thankful to be able to have coffee prepared well in multiple places in our city.  Each roaster and coffee bar is working towards the same goal: How can we make better and better coffee for you?  How can we learn more about coffee itself, the humans who produce it, as well as the processes of roasting and brewing?  How can we translate that coffee in a useful fashion? 

As peers, we talk about it.  We taste it.  We share our findings.  That's one of the reasons this city is growing in a quality context of coffee.  As a coffee community, we care about coffee, and we care about your experience with it.  We want to kick ass & be inspired every day.
