DOG RESCUED AFTER SPENDING FIVE YEARS TIED TO A TREE - “He’s a really nice dog, just over five years old. What a brave guy…He’s good with people and with other dogs.”
A Dogue de Bordeaux named Napoleon was rescued by the BC SPCA in Canada. He spent five years tied to a tree and survived horrible conditions. Napoleon needs surgery on his eyelids and teeth and the BC SPCA is hoping to raise funds for his treatment. Despite his horrible experience, Napoleon appears to be a friendly dog. Read more from the BC SPCA website:
Staff at the BC SPCA Abbotsford Branch are hoping the public will help a dog with an unhappy start in life find a happier future. Napoleon, a Dogue de Bordeaux – one of the most ancient French dog breeds, a breed made famous in the Tom Hanks movie Turner and Hooch – needs major surgery before he hopefully, finds a loving home.
Tied to a tree most of his life without adequate food, water or shelter, Napoleon needs a major dental surgery as well as entropion surgery – an extremely painful condition where the eyelashes grow into the eyes – on both lower lids.
“The SPCA has learned that Napoleon suffered wretched living conditions in all kinds of weather, unable to free himself or find any shelter or eat when his leash wrapped around the tree, often left to stand in several inches of mud,” says Abbotsford branch manager Jodi Dunlop. Napoleon was surrendered to the BC SPCA through a cruelty investigation Nov. 8.
“He’s a really nice dog, just over five years old. What a brave guy,” Dunlop says. “He’s good with people and with other dogs. We’re hoping the public will help him have a much better life than the one he’s experienced so far, and eventually, find a loving home.”
Even though Bakerview Pet Hospital in Abbotsford can perform the surgery for half-price, Napoleon’s surgery will still cost upward of $1,000.
Napoleon endured years of suffering, but now he has a chance at a new life. Hopefully his treatment goes well and he is adopted into a warm home. Click here for the full story (Photo from the BC SPCA Facebook page).

Hey handsomedogs, I could really use your help! I recently took in a rescue dog and he needs to find a good home ASAP. I can’t keep him because he’s too big for the apartment I’m in. He’s a Pit Bull/Cattle dog mix, about 10 months old and about 40 lbs. He’s one of the sweetest dogs I’ve met who just loves people and is always willing to play. He’s UTD on his shots and he’s been neutered. I’m looking for people in the NYC area that might be interested in adopting him or knows of someone who might want him. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Their marriage in 1996 was a closely guarded secret. Today, never before seen picures of John Kennedy Jr and his bride Carolyn Bessett shed new light on the darkly glamorous couple. And friends and family share memories in a fascinating new documentary.
Happy Birthday to John F Kennedy, Jr.

The Riderless Horse
On November 25, 1963, during President Kennedy’s funeral procession, a magnificent black gelding, with an empty saddle, saber, and boots reversed in the stirrups, followed the caisson bearing the President’s coffin. The riderless horse is one of the highest military honors bestowed upon the fallen. Black Jack, the horse used during JFK’s funeral procession, was from the Army’s oldest active infantry unit, the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, known as The Old Guard. He alone defied the strict military discipline of the day with his rowdy behavior: prancing, throwing his head, and dancing around his walker. After the funeral, Mrs. Kennedy, an avid horsewoman, expressed an interest in Black Jack. Within hours, the horse’s saddle and blanket, and the boots and saber were delivered to her at the White House.
