thoughts on peter
He is loyal, intensely so, until another side presents itself. He’s a survivor first, from childhood on, which means attaching like a leech to feed where the blood is sweetest. He did, and still does care, about (especially Remus, but also James and Sirius) his friends. At first more so because of the advantageous aspect of hiding in the shadow of the popular kids rather than being at the attention of their snarks. (”Rather cry in a Rolls Royce than be happy on a bicycle”-mentality). A comfort and adoration which eventually grew into love. He was always quite comfortable staying in the shadow of the marauders. He under performed in school, and was always underestimated because of his quiet, timid behaviour and his ability to play along. Truly encompassing the cornered rattle-snack trope with a surprising amount of innate magical talent when pressured into it. A potential constantly bubbling under the surface, but never fully realised. Being adaptable, manipulative and strategic, Peter is calculative enough to know when to draw and when to go all in. He’s been feeding the death eaters information in return for protection. It’s not, and was never, about hurting the marauders or the order, but it’s about saving himself. His entitled attitude and self-preservations comes from an internal bitterment and sourness at the world, at society, at people, a hatred, he hasn’t realised yet, but which he has internalised and expresses itself in, at times, a petty attitude. With this in mind, I am so excited to explore the dynamic between him and the order, the marauders and in particular his relationship with Lily - which has always intrigued me.
