[ NETWORK ] - One of your fellow ball-goers is being accosted, and getting into earshot, you realize it’s by someone who claims to be one of the scouts looking for talent. But they’re being a little pushy, aren’t they? And are you sure they’re really who they say they are?
He'd been approaching to offer a flower from his bouquet, but with the scene he stumbled upon, that task was completely forgotten. Mark was hardly the type to intrude on another's conversation unbidden, but he could see all the warning signs that the person pestering Hector could not. It wasn't like Hector was ever particularly subtle about his frustration, but this man simply did not seem to know when to let up. There could be a wide variety of reasons for it, whether the man was willing to own up to them or not. The consequences of that pushiness were not ones Mark wanted them to have to endure right now.
"Um, s-sorry to interrupt," Mark squeaked, trying his best to insert himself in between Hector and the stranger to ensure no blows were thrown, just in case it came to that. "Hector, I think someone was-- uh, Eliwood! Eliwood was looking for you. On the other side of the hall. I think it was important!"
He's not a good liar by any means, but right now, he doesn't really need to be great at it. They just need any excuse.
"...just one photo, and you'll be a star!"
"For the last time, no." Hector snaps, then tries yet again to sidestep the man with the photo-contraption, but he's a slippery one. Somehow she's right back in front of him.
"I'm telling you, this Muscles Monthly newsletter will be a hit. One little photo without that pesky shirt, and—"
—and then, just as Hector decides he'll have to push past him, Mark is in between them, come to his rescue. The interruption throws the man off enough that Hector's finally able to back up, widening the gap between them.
"Is that right? Can't keep him waiting then. Let's go, let's go."
Ushering Mark over and away from the predatory photographer, Hector hurries away. At first, he's looking for Eliwood, and is confused when he can't find that familiar shock of red hair.
It's not until they're halfway across the room that he realizes what Mark's done.
"Ohooo, you sly devil!" he laughs, throwing his head back. "Quick thinking, as always!"
He teases out a deep red rose and tucks it into Mark's bouquet. "It's not exactly enough to pay back the debt, but here."
