A smirk pulled at his lips as he looked over at Magnus. The voice in his head told him that it hadn't been meant as a compliment, but at that moment he honestly didn't care. Magnus wasn't someone he dealt with on a regular basis, and figured the warlock was there for his parabatai and not some social call. Of course, it could've been a simple social call but at the moment he was focused on finding Valentine. And focusing on the fact that people were still considering him problematic. Jace knew being Valentine's son was going to cause problems. He just hadn't thought it would be as problematic as it currently was. And now it seemed that Magnus wanted to give his two cents and that was the last thing any of them needed. "If you're looking for Alec he's not here. He was called to Alicante for some meeting and I don't know when he'll return."

He should've known taking Alec to the Hunter's Moon was a bad idea. Even though he spent plenty of time there, Alec didn't and he should've known that going there would've led to trouble. In all honesty, he was surprised at just how little it had taken to put Alec in this state. He was also surprised that his parabatai was looking for trouble. Normally the other wasn't the sort to look for trouble; he was. How odd that the tables were turned and now he was having to keep Alec from getting into trouble that neither of them wanted to explain. First, Jace needed to remind his parabatai that they weren't there to cause trouble but to protect. Something he was certain the other would remember once all the alcohol was out of his system. "No, you're not allowed to rob him. In your state you'd end up getting into more trouble and neither of us want to explain that to the Clave."

Clearly he wasn't understanding what she meant, at all. Kate huffed angrily, trying to keep it together, so that she didn't just storm off, because the last thing she needed was to actually die today. That would have been bad, oh so very bad. There was a part of her that said she needed him in this situation, but the other part said to just run, and deal with it on her own. Kate was capable, she knew she was, even if he hadn't seen her worth, or the extent of her skill yet. 

Why did she not like either choice in this situation? Both of them sucked, because either she was likely going to die because of the demons or she was going to be murdered, likely by him - that was how she viewed this, anyways. Well maybe she could get away with murder in this case, because she apparently wasn't supposed to be able to see him, and yet… 

"Yeah, well you're like, right there." She jabbed at his arm with a finger to make her point. At this point, it wasn't whether she could or not. Kate obviously could see shit she wasn't supposed to be able to, but yet, in her daily life, she'd dealt with aliens, and shapeshifters, which really meant that she had started to question a lot about people she was around already, learning habits and tells so that she would know it was actually them. 

"People like me? Well, obviously I'm not Mundane, or we wouldn't be in this shit show, now would we? I clearly know far too much about a lot of shit. Have you had to deal with aliens, murder robots and shapeshifters lately? Cause I sure have… '' God, she was annoyed with him. Whatever the hell he was talking about would have to get picked apart later, because she really didn't wanna die today, and so far he seemed like the best option to make sure it didn't happen. That was unfortunate. 

She groaned, and brandished her bow at him briefly. "You're not getting it! I mean legit cracks, in like the space time continuum or whatever, not just like… between the city you already know, but I mean like between universes, and other New York Cities, man!" Billy was so much better at explaining this shit than she was. Where the hell was he when she needed him most? Billy would have been able to get through to Jace, she was sure.

The longer whatever this was went on the more he wanted to just leave her there. He honestly had better things to do than babysit some mundane. But this was what he'd been given and somehow he'd get them out of this in one piece. Hopefully once that was done he'd never have to see her again. Of course, he was curious how she was able to see him since mundanes didn't have the sight. But at the moment he was more concerned with getting them out of there. Eventually he might find the answer, but Jace wanted to get out of there and put as much space between them as possible.

Getting them out of there aside, he couldn't help but wonder if she was one of those mundanes that had the sight. They weren't common and most of them didn't seek them out, but the fact this one could see him had him thinking there was definitely something different about her. If they had more time maybe he could get to the end of it. But they didn't have the time and the longer they sat there the worse things were going to get. And things were already pretty bad.

"Not the point," he snapped back, glaring at the fact she'd poked him with a finger. Not that it hurt, but it had definitely made a point. Unfortunately, it didn't change the fact that she shouldn't have been able to see him. They'd all been taught growing up that if mundanes saw their world it would drive them crazy. But clearly she wasn't in that state so something was definitely different about her. He just wished they had the time to figure it out. Jace knew it would eat at him until he got answers, but his focus was on getting them out of there without either one of them getting hurt or worse.

Turning to look at her, confusion was clearly etched into his features. What was she rattling on about now? Mundanes were definitely strange and now he was dealing with one that was stranger than usual. "You're not nephilim, so unless you're a downworlder you're definitely a mundane," he explained, again, sighing in frustration. How many times was he going to after to explain this? Too many it seemed and now she was adding more to their situation than absolutely necessary. Whatever these things were they had nothing to do with their situation. "And I deal with demons constantly. That's what we do; protect the city from demons that come through cracks between realms." Each time they thought they'd sealed up a crack another one was found and more demons ran through the city.

Which was what they were currently stuck dealing with. They'd been struggling with finding the current crack and the city was being flooded with all types of demons. At least most of them could easily be vanquished, there were some that were too damn stubborn. "What do you mean between different universes? That's not possible." Now, he was truly confused. And he knew they'd have to find someone who might be able to explain it all. Magnus might but if not then he knew there was no one else for him to ask. Well, there was one but Jace wasn't about to seek Simon out. He was more annoying than this mundane and while he was Clary's friend, he'd prefer not to deal with him. But if they had no other choice? He might reach out. Might.

Rolling his eyes, he knew that it was either him pushing her out of the way or him writing up a report dealing with yet another dead mundane. He knew which one he was supposed to do, but her reaction had him thinking maybe it had been the wrong decision. Of course, he knew he'd done the right thing. But the reaction was one he hated having to deal with. Especially when he was doing nothing more than saving her life. If he'd been a few moments later he really would have been looking at a body. Instead, Jace was stuck dealing with an unappreciative mundane. At least he didn't have to worry about writing up yet another report. They were still trying to track down the demon, but at the moment he wanted to make certain whatever was coming for her didn’t come back. "I could've just let that demon attack you."
