Peter cocked an eyebrow at the others laugh, “Hey I’m being sincere!” he teased with an amused chuckle, though he knew he was being sappy and honestly that line was so bad he kind of deserved to be laughed at. The young man smiled at the other for a moment and shivered at the feeling of her lips all over his. After a moment she pulled back and he almost wanted to whine
“Si, Senorita.” Peter said as he followed after her, wrapping his arms around her from behind, “But I don’t think I was done with you, I hope you know that.” He’d been thinking about this for awhile, hell they’d only been officially together for a little while but he was completely and utterly smitten with her.
“I love you.” Peter found himself whispering, his instincts shoving aside the logical part of him for just a brief moment and he could feel his heart pounding in anticipation of what she might say.
Peter Parker, ever fearful of rejection, didn’t give her a chance to answer, instead he took the leash from her and attached it to the dog. “Come on, I think Lucky might bite me if I keep him held up in here any longer.”
“Hablas español? Que impresionante.” The private schooling was showing, but she could allow herself to show off a little in the little bit of spanish she remembered. Another laugh escaped her as he held her from behind, appreciating the affection especially after the day she had. “Unsure if that’s a threat or a promise.” A small innuendo thrown in there as she looked over her shoulder to look at him.
Of all the things she thought he’d say, this wasn’t it. Hazel eyes widened in surprise, her mouth opening and closing a few times as if she was trying to say something but the words were glued to her throat. Kate was pretty damn sure she looked like a goldfish or something. This was the first time someone’s ever said that to her in a romantic way. Sure, she had some relationships before. A boyfriend in middle school, another in high school, and a girlfriend in college. All of those were very short lived, nothing remotely close to being as serious as this is.
Ever since the fire, he’s basically moved in. They worked together. Was it too soon? Before she could even fully absorb what just happened, Peter had stolen the leash out of her hand and took the lead on walking Lucky. As she grabbed the door, she was still mulling over what to say. Her heart was pounding in her chest as she held the door open for him and Lucky, locking it behind her as they walked towards the staircase.
“Peter,” Kate called out, taking a few longer strides to catch up. As she fell into his step, seeing the clear sign of nerves. As a fellow person who wears their heart on their sleeve, she understood. “I... did you--” Before she could ask, the lobby door opened and she took a step to the side to let her neighbor pass by. Kate was hoping that would be that, but of course, the older lady decided to strike up conversation. Hating to be rude, she indulged the lady while trying to politely slip away. It took a bit but when Lucky whimpered, it was the perfect excuse to get going.
“I’ll see yah around, Lucky needs to do his business.” The older woman laughed and waved at the two, telling them to have a nice night as she ascended the stairs.
