#DAYBREAK out now! linktr.ee/codysimpson
What country/place would you love to go!? ⚡️ p.s so IN love with #underwater
Southern France and Western France. I’m fascinated with the romance and the richness in culture.
I’d also like to learn French someday.
Do you feel like your creative process has changed as you've gotten older? I've been a fan for over six years and I've been blown away by how much your music has matured and grown.
It’s become much more fluid. A far easier process as I’ve learnt to trust the “flow” of it and become far more instinctual in my working process. Nowadays in my songwriting I use the Jack Kerouac spontaneous prose and poetry writing method. “First thought, best thought”. Just open the flood gates and let it all pour out in whatever order.
Reflecting on your journey as an artist and as a person, what has been a valuble lesson or piece of advice you’ve picked up along the way?
Look for the silver lining in each and every day. And never take short cuts in your work. Always take the hard route. It’s more rewarding.
If you could use just one musical instrument for the rest of your life, what would it be?
The guitar for sure.
Who are your inspirations to write your songs and poetry?
Life, women, nature, tapping the source. The rush of getting things right. The thrill of taking risks.
What’s your favourite marine animal? Mine’s a penguin!
The dolphin.
Will you publish a poetry book?
Someday. I have an extensive list of goals and this is near the top.
Whats a good book that you recommend?
The Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac for something light and inspiring. And Walden by Henry David Thoreau.
What's your current favorite song?
Hurts Like Heaven By Coldplay
What was your inspiration behind Underwater and Pirates Dream? Also I love you more than anything 💙💙
An interest in poetry and telling a sensual story of freedom and rebellion. Also giving people a crispy, fresh sound. Modernity and radiance.
When did you start to be interested in poetry?
I’ve been interested in poetry ever since I became aware of words and combinations of words. I entered and won a few contests at school for poetry and prose pieces I wrote. It wasn’t until I was about 19 that I decided I wanted to write full-time and cultivate the craft in a more diligent and focused manner.
Would you like to colaborate with a singer in particular?
Dua Lipa or Ed Sheeran.
If you had to choose, which of your songs would you listen to on repeat for the rest of your life? Huge fan by the way 🙌🏾❤️
Probably our live version of “Waiting For the Tide”. And “Pirates Dream”. From my earlier catalogue I’d say Driftwood or Sinkin In.
How do you push through when you feel like giving up?? Cody please answer!
I remember the people that are by my side daily, literally and figuratively, awaiting my work and creative efforts to brighten their lives. I want to shed light on people in every way possible, but we all have dark days. It’s just about having the confidence and optimism that things will always pass and the light will return. There is no dark without the light. Yin and yang. East and west. Balance of opposites.
Throughout your discography, the ocean and the beach have been major motifs. What about those settings inspires you?
A feeling of comfort, satisfaction and contentment. A sense of the familiar. Also a sense of the power that nature provides the artist in a very primitive manner.
