Why They Call It Taking A Dump
When Iâm home, most of my mornings go like this: Wake up around 6, and immediately begin praying the kids donât wake up till at least 7. Â That isnât currently going as planned. Â Around 5:30am I woke up to one of the two crying, and by the time I came to my senses, both were at level 10. Â I will confess, Iâm not the best rocker, so my wife usually has to rock one while I hold the other, and then do her magic with the second child, all while hoping the other remains asleep. Â Again, this isnât currently happening. Â Lawson, for the second morning in a row has woken up ready to start the day, and so when we try and bring him to bed with us, hoping our big, extremely comfortable bed will allow him to relax, we end up constantly grabbing him from crawling off the sides. Â I donât recall when I became a morning person, but at some point mornings became âmy timeâ. Â I literally go get breakfast while listening to ESPNâs Mike and Mike, and then return home waiting for the kids to awake for their breakfast. Â Thereâs something about being on the streets so early in the morning. Â Itâs just you for the most part. Â I have a Panera about a mile from my house, so Iâll order from the house using the App, and usually Iâm back home in 15 minutes. Â The past two mornings, Iâve spent that 15 minutes praying that Lawson fell back asleep. Â Iâve been wrong twice.
Being home the last few weeks has been amazing. Â I enjoy the road, but towards the end of the year, itâs human nature for it to wear on your body and mind. Â The kids have gotten used to me being around everyday, and have grown quite attached. Â Lawson is a lot like me, sensitive and serious. Â Lilli Cate is in every way like her mother. Â Crazy as hell. Â

Scooter was a writer on this song, as heâs been on many songs of mine. Â I loved it from the first listen, as I do most of his songs. Â It was brilliantly written, again, as are most of his songs, but this just had something different. Â I had an ex girlfriend who used to always talk about boiled peanuts, and thatâs mentioned up front. Â Not important, other than itâs just one of the many pictures that are used in the story to set the scene. Â To have Lee Ann sing on it, was a dream come true. Â I can remember thinking back to all the videos Iâd seen of her singing over the years, and the fact that she was now a part of this song, was beyond surreal. Â Of all the songs Iâve recorded, that were never released as singles, this is by far the one most requested. Â
Why do they call it taking a dump? Â I have to say, this has puzzled me for years. Â I think back to every time Iâve ever used the bathroom, and I canât ever recall âtakingâ anything from the toilet/bathroom. Â Like they brilliantly said on Beavis and Butthead, it should be called âleaving a dumpâ, cause youâre not âtakingâ anything - at least I never have. Â
I donât know if this is something Iâm going to do weekly, but I enjoy it, and will do it when the urge comes naturally. Â
Both of my children are now up, and itâs breakfast time for them, so I must go be a parent. Â But thank you for reading.
