Sssssstarter call!!
The tactician paused for a brief moment, staring before letting out a soft chuckle. What an odd reaction. Yet, one he should have expected, considering her hesitance at admitting she was royalty in the first place.
“Corrin, it is. I can’t help but find that reaction more adorable than it should have been, however. Just as a side note. But, if that’s what you desire, I’ll let the fact that you’re royalty slip gently from my mind like the wind.”
“ A --- Adorable? ”
How was her reaction adorable? Confusion was set on her features, but not without being accompanied by a slight blush. She was used to compliments from the staff at the fort, but not from strangers. It was certainly something she needed to get used to, and fast.
“ Well.. I would appreciate that. I’d rather be on comfortable terms as allies and friends than you to think so highly of me due to royalty. ”
Through the bushes Mikleo goes, shoving aside the smaller branches that are in his way. He doesn’t spare a glance behind him, doesn’t even care if the branches he’s shoved aside might slap the princess instead; the sounds of footsteps behind him is enough of a sign that she’s fine on her own. Mikleo is more interested in finding the marks he’s left on the trees—this wouldn’t be the first time he’s gone to that village, after all.
Mikleo only looks back at her when she asks him that question, and he raises an eyebrow, before looking up and back again to where he’s going. A nonchalant shrug, before spotting a familiar cut on one of the trees. He stops then, slender fingers brushing against marks of knife against bark, and he merely shrugs as response to her question.
‘ why? would you rather i drag you back to where you belong? ’ Mikleo asks, not even glancing back at the princess, as he figures out where exactly the cut is supposed to point at. He doesn’t exactly remember if he angled his cuts for the purpose of bringing him to the right place. Mikleo might as well have slashed on the bark just for the sake of marking it, just to tell him that he’s taken this path before. ‘ i don’t mind doing exactly that, really. i might even get a handsome reward for bringing you back to the castle. ’ He puts his hands on his hips, a pout gracing his lips, as he looks ahead of him. Well, he’ll find the other marks soon if he just look for them instead of figuring what the hell he was just thinking back then.
And now, he looks back at the princess. ‘ if you’d really like an actual answer, then you’ll get nothing from me. i decided to do this on a whim. maybe if you give me time to think of an answer to satisfy the both of us, well, maybe you’ll get an answer. ’ But that will take time. The fact that Mikleo thinks she’s an interesting fellow is a stupid answer to give, for him at least. It’s not reasonable enough for him to help her sneak around like this, as he very well knows the harsh punishment of being her accomplice for this little trip.
She let out a displeased scoff, rolling her eyes at his attitude. The only reward she’d like to give him was a slap to the face. But she contained herself, heaving a great sigh as she did so. What an interesting journey this will be, walking to the nearby village with such a jerk for an escort. At least it’ll make the day slightly interesting. ( Also a little more irritating. )
“ Maybe I don’t want your answer anymore. ”
Her response was full of snide as she stepped through the forest floor, careful so that she didn’t trip or run into any stray branches. Full alert, too, for any kind of trap or guard. It wasn’t that she couldn’t fight them back or anything, so she wasn’t sure why she even bothered to be on the look out for them. Instead, she chose to walk in silence, paying close attention to the path they took so that she could memorize the way for a later time.
Corrin was a rather stubborn one, and was dead set on protesting the guard’s complete rudeness. And while technically, most people would have their heads for his tone of voice towards her, she allowed it. She refused to be the royal who would be so cruel. And honestly, he was being the most cruel. Being the impatient one she always was, and absolutely hating the silence, she broke it with another question.
“ Have you been this way before? You keep checking for marks. ”
Confusion graced his features upon getting his nose flicked again, his lips turning into a pout. He held his nose for a moment, barely being able to hold himself from sticking his tongue out at her; but he was definitely the older one, he should’ve acted mature.
“ So you’re fine with… killing? Sorry, you don’t look like someone who does that for a living. “
“ I’m not okay with killing. ”
Her voice was stern, a frown ever present on her features. No, killing was wrong. And the princess refused to do it unless absolutely necessary. She’d much rather incapacitate, or startle.
“ I’ll do it if I have to, to defend myself or an ally. I’d much rather just stop them, not kill them. ”
for a split second I forgot my log in. BUT I’M HERE NOW.
hey guys --- good news --- i’m not dead. I just simply found myself in Undertale muse hell these past two weeks, and every weekend i spend all day both days with my boyfriend. not to mention i’ve been absorbed ( and loving ) birthright, so I’m tied right now. As the weekend slows, I’ll be able to get to replies and even make some new starters on here! So bare with me, because i’m not leaving, i’m just busy and birthright is consuming my life. ( in a good way! )
starter call !!
A chuckle, which is followed with a shrug. Mikleo doesn’t have any obligations to stop her from whatever she wishes to do—maybe if he were on duty, but that’s not the case. Mikleo’s more on the technicalities right now. Not on duty is no obligations to do or follow. Simple as that, at least for him.
‘ you have nothing to worry. i don’t have plans to impede you from whatever you wish to do, your highness. ’ He crosses his arms, leans his weight on one leg. He sure is brave for acting so casually in front of royalty, but as long as he doesn’t step on boundaries, he’ll be alright. Mikleo doesn’t plan to, anyway. He follows her, footsteps light and quick, but he trails behind her. ‘ do what you want; i don’t have any qualms with it. ’ Then a pause, as if remembering something. He puts a hand a under his chin, supported by his other arm as he stops walking. A moment of silence, then an ah, escapes his lips, looking like something finally dawned on him.
‘ there’s a village northeast of here. if we continue along this path, we’ll reach it by sunset. ’ Wouldn’t that be tricky. The village is near, yes, but not so near that the princess can sneak out and return without her disappearance being noticed. A night of disappearance is bound to cause a ruckus. She’s quite the adventurous type.
Mikleo likes her.
‘ hah. if you intend to return to the castle by sunset, you should stray from the path and find a shortcut to the village. follow me, if you’d like. ’ And he takes off, straying from the forest path and through the bushes.
His tone, his attitude... it didn’t go unnoticed. However, the princess didn’t bother to correct him. She actually didn’t mind being addressed so casually. It was a nice change of pace for once, in contrast to the high amounts of respect she was used to getting from strangers. She wouldn’t admit it, though, as she kept quiet on her walk. She wasn’t quite sure why this guard wouldn’t want to impede on her plans, lips pursing slightly as she felt indecisive. Perhaps he was off duty, or perhaps he was just a laid back guard. No matter, she glanced back towards him as he began to speak of the village up ahead. Now that her motives have been revealed, there really was no going back now. Even if she refused to follow, she’d end up being escorted back to the castle, anyway.
Her eyes watch him as he strays off the path, through the bushes. A moment of hesitation, before she followed after him, moving the branches out of her way with her hands.
“ Why are you helping me? Shouldn’t you be dragging me back to where I belong? ”
A trace of bitterness laced in her words, she tilted her head a bit to the side. She loved her family, there was no doubt. But sometimes, being cooped up got tiring.
friiiiiiiiiidaaaaayyyyy !!!!!
I think I might go to bed now. I’ll reply to everything else ( and by everything else, I mean that reply I owe @lefayete ) when I have a fresher mind. Goodnight, guys!
“ I’m aware… “ he mumbled out, childishly pouting as he watched the girl tend to his leg. When he felt the water spill on his leg, he bit his teeth to stay quiet but let out a small hiss nonetheless. Pain was something his mind would not allow him to get used to, unfortunately, but he kept on watching her carefully wrap his wound with unexperienced yet careful hands.
“ Great… Now we’ll both die if we get caught. We need to stay low and hide somewhere. “
She frowned once she finished with wrapping his wound, lifting her hand to flick his nose once again, placing the bandages back in her bag with the other. She clearly wasn’t pleased with his attitude, or his lack of gratitude, for that matter.
“ Nice attitude you have there. But for your information, we won’t die. I’m not exactly weak, you know. And you’re welcome. ”
Lainen can’t help but let out a chuckle. His observational skills were failing him… normally, he would have picked up on that right away! This Corrin was good at hiding her own background… especially since she didn’t seem to act like a princess at all.
“I see, I see.” The tactician nods, his eyes glancing her over before shrugging. She didn’t seem all too happy about the fact that she was royalty being revealed… “…Well, just expect a few polite ‘Miss Corrin’ titles to slip past my lips instead of just ‘Corrin’. I’ve never been all that experienced with royalty.”
“ I’d rather you didn’t treat me differently. Corrin will do just fine. ”
She huffed, folding her arms across her chest. She didn’t particularly like the fancy titles it came with, and the special treatment just because she was or royal lineage. She wanted to be seen for who she was, not her background.

An eyebrow cocks upwards at Corrin’s explanation, Lainen’s arms crossing over one another. That was simply odd… having a personal blacksmith, and not being surprising? The only time he’d heard of that was…
“… My goodness. I’m talking to royalty, aren’t I? Or at least, nobility. I would have never guessed. The way you were acting, I would figure that you don’t want many people to know…”
Busted. She blinked once, before letting out a sigh. She hoped she wouldn’t quite give it away. If they didn’t know she was royalty, she’d let them believe she wasn’t. She certainly wasn’t going to give it away. Besides, she’d be treated differently if they knew she was royalty. She supposed the same would be with him, now.
“ Ah... yeah. I’m the third eldest of the Nohr royal family. I’m a princess. ”
The action was completely degrading and Mei felt all color drain from his face. He stared at her in confusion for over a minute, tilting his head to the side as if trying to figure out why exactly she had done something like that. Punishment? Perhaps it really was, considering how awkward he felt at that moment. “ What is wrong with you? “ so he said, but carefully extended his bleeding leg nonetheless, grunting in pain.
“ Many things. Now hold still. ”
She reached into her bag to pull out a small container of water, pouring over the wound to help clean it up. She was no nurse or healer, but she knew the wound had to be cleaned up a bit before bandages were added onto it. Using her sleeve, she dabbed it gently, before proceeding to wrap it with the roll of bandages she held in her other hand.
‘ ʟᴇᴛ ᴍᴇ ᴋᴇᴇᴘ ʏᴏᴜ sᴀғᴇ ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀʀᴍ, ʜᴇʀᴇ ɪɴ ᴍʏ ᴀʀᴍs. ’
Eyebrows raise at the princess’ words, but soon the look of surprise turns to mild amusement. Well, she’s fast to defend him, or something, though truthfully, Mikleo couldn’t care less about what others really think of him.The word pawn is meaningless to him, because he knows he’s not one, if he really were to compare his position like a piece in a chess game. Mikleo knows he’s useful and invaluable, not disposable like a pawn, and he’ll continue to be until he gets what he wants.
‘ chess is a nice game, ’ he says, ‘ a simple simulation of a war, but with just as many casualties. your every move counts, and you cannot take it back. like war, no? or maybe it’s life itself. ’
—Except he hasn’t even played the game, though he supposes it’s a game he’d love to play. One day, maybe, and it sounds like a better pastime than woodcarving.
A soft hum escapes his lips, taking in what the princess has said. Hah, like he would buy that excuse. A stroll to where? A royalty wandering around aimlessly is unheard of; she definitely has eyes on a place to visit. Mikleo decides, then, that this woodcarving business is a complete waste of his time; maybe he’d tag along with Princess Corrin. The soldier throws the carved object into the air, catches it, and throws it as hard and as far away as he could. The momentum throws him backwards and off the branch he’s sitting on, but he lands just fine, dusts the dirt off his pants. At the foot of the tree are his bow and quiver, and he picks them up and slings them over his shoulder.
‘ i hope you don’t mind me tagging along, then, princess. i think i’d like to take a stroll, too. ’
She clicked her tongue at his response, still a tad annoyed. War wasn’t a game, and she didn’t see it that way. Regardless, she let him speak his mind, but with every intention to completely disagree with him. She hated the idea of being at war. It was useless, and it didn’t solve anything. As long as lives were being lost to the war, there was no point. It would do more harm than good. She shook herself from her thoughts, watching the guard fall down from his position on the tree branch. Her lips pursed together at his response, fidgeting with the hood of her cape. It wasn’t just a stroll she was aiming for, it was the neighboring village.
“ Do I have a choice? ”
Her response came off rather snarky, but she quickly recovered. It was bound to happen, anyway. Either by someone joining her, or someone taking her back to the castle by force from her sneaking out. A sigh, and a sink of her shoulders, before she continued on her path.
“ Do as you wish. A stroll is rather relaxing. ”
